Isabella's POV

I never believed one night could change my entire life.

Until the night Damian De Luca walked into our mansion.

Rain battered the windows as I descended the grand staircase, wondering why my father had summoned me at ten in the evening. Two men in black suits stood beside the entrance, their expressions cold and unreadable.

"Father, who are we expecting?" I asked.

Before he could answer, the front doors opened.

A tall man entered, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit. His dark hair was damp from the rain, and his sharp features made him look almost unfairly handsome. But it was his eyes that caught my attention—cold, calculating, and completely devoid of warmth.

"Mr. Monteverde," he greeted my father.

"Damian. Thank you for coming."

My stomach tightened.

Damian Alessandro De Luca.

Even I knew his name. He was a powerful businessman rumored to control a dangerous criminal empire. People respected him, feared him, and whispered about him when they thought no one was listening.

Some called him the Mafia King.

And now, he was standing inside our home.

"Good evening," I said politely.

His gaze shifted toward me.

"Your daughter?"

"Isabella," Father answered.

Damian gave a slight nod before looking away.

"Leave us. I need to speak with your father privately."

I raised an eyebrow. "You could ask instead of ordering everyone around."

"Bella!" Father warned.

Damian looked back at me, amusement flickering across his face.

"You're not afraid of me?"

"Should I be?"

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

"We'll see."

I immediately disliked him.

---

Ten minutes later, we sat inside my father's office. Damian placed a black folder on the desk and pushed it toward him.

"Your deadline is tomorrow," he said.

"Deadline for what?" I asked.

Father avoided my eyes.

"Isabella, the company is in financial trouble."

"How much?"

He swallowed.

"Three hundred million pesos."

My heart dropped.

"Three hundred million?"

"We've tried everything," he explained. "I wanted to protect you."

"By hiding this from me?"

Before he could respond, Damian interrupted.

"I purchased your father's debt."

I turned toward him. "Why would you do that?"

"Because I wanted to."

His arrogance was unbelievable.

"Then tell us what you want," I demanded. "Money? Property? Take whatever you need and leave my family alone."

"I'm not interested in your money."

"Then what?"

His dark eyes locked onto mine.

"You."

I stared at him, certain I had misunderstood.

"Excuse me?"

"You will marry me, Isabella."

For a moment, I couldn't speak. Then I laughed in disbelief.

"Are you insane? You expect me to marry a stranger because my father owes you money?"

"I expect you to consider an arrangement that could save your family."

"That's not an arrangement. That's blackmail!"

His expression hardened.

"Your father made decisions that brought him here. I'm offering a solution."

I turned toward my father, silently begging him to deny it.

Instead, he lowered his head.

"Bella, I didn't have a choice."

"Everyone has a choice!"

"Not when hundreds of employees depend on the company," he whispered.

His words hurt because I knew he was desperate.

I looked back at Damian. "Why me?"

For the first time, he hesitated.

It lasted only a second, but I noticed.

"Because this marriage benefits us both."

"Don't lie to me."

"Careful, Isabella."

"Or what? You'll add another condition to your contract?"

He opened the folder and placed a document before me. My name was printed beside his on a marriage agreement.

I felt sick.

"What happens if I refuse?"

"Your father remains responsible for his debt. I'll pursue every lawful option available to recover what I'm owed."

It wasn't a threat spoken loudly. Somehow, that made it worse.

"Give me until tomorrow," I said.

"Midnight."

I stood, glaring at him.

"If I agree to this marriage, don't expect me to become your obedient little wife. You don't own me, Damian De Luca."

He rose slowly.

"Good. I have no interest in a woman who has nothing left to fight for."

I left before he could see how badly my hands were trembling.

But just as I reached the doorway, his voice stopped me.

"She has her mother's eyes."

I froze.

My mother had died when I was young. Father rarely spoke about her, and I knew almost nothing about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Why did Damian know her?

And why had he said those words as though they carried a meaning I couldn't understand?

That night, sleep never came. I kept thinking about the debt, the marriage agreement, and the mysterious man who seemed to know more about my family than I did.

By midnight tomorrow, I might become his wife.

But one question haunted me more than anything else.

Who was Damian De Luca to my mother—and what was my father hiding?

I didn't know that marrying him would uncover secrets capable of destroying both our families.

And I certainly didn't know that the man I wanted to escape would one day become the man I couldn't bear to lose.

The message remained on Damian's phone as we hurried through the corridor. FIND THE RING BEFORE MIDNIGHT, OR YOU'LL NEVER SEE YOUR MOTHER AGAIN. I couldn't stop reading those words in my mind. Someone had stolen my mother's belongings, threatened Damian's mother, and somehow knew that the two women were connected. Whoever was behind this wasn't guessing. They knew exactly which pieces of our past could bring us to our knees. Damian walked several steps ahead of me, speaking into his phone. "Lock down the north gate. Nobody enters or leaves without my authorization. I want every employee accounted for, including the kitchen staff, maintenance crew, and temporary security personnel." He paused to listen. "Then find another way. I don't care if you have to wake every person in this house." He ended the call. "How many people work here?" I asked. "Forty-three permanent staff members. Another twelve work security shifts." "That's fifty-five people who could have taken the box."

  • MARRIED TO THE KING OF DARKNESS    CHAPTER 8 The First Night of a Dangerous Marriage

By sunset, I had learned three things about being married to Damian De Luca. First, his estate had enough security to protect a small country. Second, nobody in the house seemed willing to answer a question without first checking whether Damian would approve. And third, my husband was exceptionally good at disappearing whenever I demanded an explanation. He had spent the afternoon in meetings with Nico and his security team, leaving me alone in a guest suite that was apparently no longer a guest suite. My belongings had been moved into the master bedroom. My clothes were arranged in a wardrobe large enough to contain an entire boutique. A row of expensive shoes stood beside the dressing table, and a diamond bracelet lay in a velvet box on the nightstand. I hadn't asked for any of it. I hadn't asked for the bedroom, either. When I questioned the housekeeper, she merely smiled and told me that Mr. De Luca had instructed her to make me comfortable. Comfortable. I was married

  • MARRIED TO THE KING OF DARKNESS    CHAPTER 7 Vows Made in the Dark

I had always imagined my wedding day differently. When I was younger, I used to picture white roses, sunlight pouring through church windows, and my mother standing beside me while she helped fasten the buttons of my wedding dress. I imagined a man who would look at me as though I were the only woman in the world, someone whose promises would come from love rather than obligation. I had never imagined marrying a mafia king before noon because someone wanted me dead. Yet at seven in the morning, I stood in front of a mirror in Damian De Luca's estate, wearing a white dress chosen by a woman I had met less than an hour earlier. The dress was elegant, with long sleeves, a fitted waist, and a modest neckline. It wasn't the kind of dress I would have chosen for myself, but I couldn't deny that it suited me. My dark hair fell in loose waves around my shoulders, and the silver necklace my mother had left me rested against my skin. I refused to remove it. No matter what Damian said, no

The message remained on Damian's phone long after the screen went dark.THE WEDDING MUST HAPPEN TOMORROW, OR ISABELLA DIES NEXT.I read it twice, hoping the words would rearrange themselves into something less terrifying. They didn't.Damian stood beside the desk in the private study, his expression carved from stone. The captured man was dead. The guards were searching the estate for whoever had helped the assassin reach him. Somewhere outside, hurried footsteps crossed the marble corridor, followed by the muffled sound of orders being shouted. And I was standing in the middle of a room full of armed men, wearing the same bloodstained dress I'd worn during the attack."Tomorrow?" I finally asked.Damian lifted his gaze."The ceremony was supposed to happen in three days.""I know what the original arrangement was.""Then why are you looking at me as though I personally moved the cale

  • MARRIED TO THE KING OF DARKNESS     The Price of My Name

The photograph wouldn't leave my mind. Even after Damian De Luca's black car dropped me outside our mansion, I could still see my mother's smile beside that mysterious man. I could still hear Damian's voice telling me she had known his father. And I couldn't stop thinking about the gold ring. The same ring appeared in the photograph Damian had shown me and in the old picture hidden inside my father's desk. Coincidence was possible. But something told me it wasn't. I found my father in his study, staring at a glass of untouched whiskey. Rain tapped against the windows, filling the silence between us. "Papa, we need to talk." He looked up. "Isabella, it's late." "Who is the man in Mama's photograph?" His fingers tightened around the glass. I placed the picture I'd secretly taken with my phone on his desk. Damian hadn't allowed me to keep the original, but I'd captured it before leaving his estate. The moment my father saw the image, the color drained from his face. "Where

  • MARRIED TO THE KING OF DARKNESS    The Secret Inside the Box

"Isabella, tell me you haven't opened it." Damian's voice sliced through the darkness. I clutched the velvet box against my chest. Behind him, two men dressed in black secured the doorway while another checked the hallway. My father stood beside the desk, pale and trembling. "Why?" I demanded. "What's inside?" Damian lowered his gun, but his expression remained terrifyingly cold. "Give it to me." "No." His jaw tightened. "This isn't the time to challenge me." "Then stop giving me reasons to distrust you!" A crash echoed downstairs. One of Damian's men spoke urgently into his earpiece, and Damian glanced toward the door. "We have intruders in the east wing," the man reported. "Two escaped through the garden." Damian's eyes returned to mine. "They came for that box." My stomach twisted. "How would they know I have it?" "Because someone told them." I looked at my father. He couldn't meet my eyes. Another secret. Another lie. I opened the box. "Isabella, don't!" my fath
