The words choked on my chest, and all I could do was stand still and watch the man before me with wide eyes.

“Jennifer?

Ethan’s friend?” I breathed, my mind still unable to believe what I’ve heard.

“Yes, her,” The old master gasped, his voice still low in fear.

“But she…she—why would she do that?” I stammered.

Still finding it impossible to believe that Jenifer could be as evil as that.

I thought she saw the old master like her very own grandfather.

She even called him—grandfather.

“Why would she try to kill you grandfather?

She has no reason to,” I pressed, wanting to know what would prompt a woman like Jennfier to do evil to the old master.

The old master laughed.

The tone of his laugh rumbled across the air, sending a cool chill in my skin that made me shiver.

His voice was calm, low and sorrowful.

“I also thought that too.

Why would the same girl I took under my wings twelve years ago after her parents' death do that?
