Her body grew stiff under my hands as she stared at me with wide eyes.

“The real papers,” she whispered under her breath.

I watched as she nodded as if something clicked in her mind.

“I remember,” she gasped, staring at me with joy.

“I remember, Leah.

I know who I gave the documents to,” she breathed, in happiness.

My heart pounded erratically in my chest.

A surge of emotions shot through my spine knowing I was so close to everything. “Who mom?”

I watched as her lips parted, and she uttered the one name I would have never expected to hear in my entire life.

“Xavier,” she whispered as the blood flowing in my veins grew cold, and my body froze.

I sat still, not even twitching while staring at her with parted lips of shock.

“Xavier?” I muttered his name in disbelief.

“How could you give the papers to Xavier mum?

He is working with Vivian,” I screamed incredulously.

I stood up from the bed abruptly, while watching as it creaked from the force I used.

“Your parents,” she breathed, her eyes wide with fear.“She…that evil woman. She threatened to take you back to your parents,” she stammered.I watched as her body trembled as she looked at me with fear. She spoke like the thought of me going back to my real family was dangerous.“What do you mean mother? What’s so bad about going back to my parents. Please tell me?” I said, my hands trembling on her shoulders.“Why would Vera threaten Xavier with my parents?I don’t understand anything,” I urged, wanting so badly for everything to make sense.“Your real parents…Leah,” she whispered, cutting herself short as she gasped.Right before my eyes, I watched as her eyes lids lowered. Her long lashes dropped to her cheeks. She swayed in my arms, her face clenched as if she was forcing her body to keep herself awake.“Tell me mom, please,” I begged seeing that she was about to pass out.The nurse's words rang in my mind, about her medication taking effect soon.“Yo—your pa—paren—“Her eyes lid

I clenched my fists in anger besides myself, while trying to calm myself down.I needed to get to the hospital right now, without wasting any more time.Taking a deep breath, I cancelled my uber ride.Moving into one of Ethan’s black Maybach, as the driver opened the door for me, I entered. The car zoomed past the mansion, but still driving within speed limits.Within no time, we arrived at the hospital.Anxiety filled me as I jumped down the car and moved towards my mothers ward. But not before hearing the driver mention he would be there waiting for me, while I rolled my eyes to his words.“Ma’am, it’s good that you are here,” my mother’s nurse said the moment she spotted me.“How is she?” I asked, tension gripping me to the bones.“She’s okay now.We gave her something to calm her hysterics down,” she said, smiling slightly.“The moment she regained her memories. Not partial, like the other times. This time, she regained every single thing,” the nurse said, her eyes fixed on me as

I ended the call after muttering ‘I’m on my way’ in a hurry.I moved to the closet, picking any clothes my hand could land on, not bothering if it was suitable enough. My mother asked for me—that meant one thing, that she remembered me.My heart thundered against my chest at the thought. She had not done that in a long time. For months now—she had not remembered my name, but today—she even wanted to see me.That meant her episode of amnesia had cleared. But I knew it would only stay like this for a short period of time, so I needed to be fast.Grabbing my bag, I placed everything I needed in it, then moved towards the door in a hurry to leave. But whoever was on the other side beat me to it—kicking the door with his leg while forcing me to step back.Ethan’s calm and soft features greeted me.His eyes landed on me, as they glinted with a kind of brightness and desire I’m so sure I had never seen on his face. But then, his gaze slipped past my face and down to my clothes and bag, as hi

I choked at his words, air caught in my throat, as I let out a surprised but small cough.Ethan laughed loudly at my red face, his voice echoed around the silent hall. His laughter was melodic and I immediately froze at the sound. For as long as I had known Ethan—I had never heard his laugh. And now, hearing it for the first time, I could not help but stare at him stiffly, with my lips gaping open in surprise. As if noticing my reaction he paused, his face twisting in confusion, and his thought distant, almost like he was shocked at the foreign sound which spilled from his lips.My lips curled into a smile, seeing the thoughtful expression on his face.He looked like a child who had done something wrong and was scared of the reaction of his parents. And that made me wonder when was the last time he had ever laughed so freely like that.“Let me show you how much I can please you tonight,” I teased, with a confidence that shocked me.I watched as Ethan’s eyes darkened, flaring with desi

I parted my lips to speak, but Jennifer beat me to it. “Ethan,” she sighed softly, walking up to him as her hands rested on his chest. I watched as he flinched slightly, but yet he did not pull away. “I came to see how grandfather was doing,” she whispered—her eyes moved to the old master, and then back to Ethan’s gaze trying to read his expression. “I miss hearing his voice so much,” she muttered, and I struggled not to flinch from her words. “It’s a shame the Harnes family had to take everything good from us,” she snarled as Ethan's breath hitched visibly, yet he said nothing. His eyes shifted to me again, as he walked out of Jennifer's hold, coming to where I stood. His thick, rough yet smooth hands wrapped around my waist, tugging my body to close till there was no space between us. His nose rested on my long hair, and then he breathed in my scent. I stared at Jennifer's stiff form while she watched us. Her dark eyes stared at me—still burning in anger. She cl
