Darius POV

‘Are you kidding me right now?’

I was the one that caught that ball. I was the one who rotated in the air and stopped it dead before it could do what Jax intended it to do. And now Rylan was standing there being all steady and composed with Eliana, and she was looking at him with that look … the relieved one, the grateful one — like he was the one who had just done something remarkable.

The thoughts went through my mind as I subconsciously put both hands on my waist and stood there w

Eliana's POVWhen I finally made it out of the room and into the hallway, the voices reached me before anything else did.Low. Back and forth. And it was the kind of exchange that had history in it … not a casual conversation but something with weight and direction, two people who knew each other well enough to argue without raising their voices.I followed the sound slowly, still feeling the fog of sleep sitting at the edges of everything, my feet quiet on the floor. The hallway opened up ahead of me into what was clearly the living room…as it was wide, comfortable and this was the kind of space that had clearly never had to apologize for itself. And right there in the middle of it, I saw Darius and Rylan.I stopped just before the entrance. Just far enough back that the angle worked in my favor as they were facing each other, focused entirely on whatever was passing between them. Ther

  • MATED TO THE WEREWOLF AND THE VAMPIRE.   Chapter 28 — Let the Bond Decide.

Rylan's POVWe got to the living room after we left the room where Eliana was.Darius led the way in … and the moment he cleared the doorway, he dropped himself onto the couch with that particular brand of nonchalance he wore like a second skin. Not sitting so much as arranging himself across the cushions like the furniture had been waiting specifically for him. And then, almost immediately, he started brushing at his trousers. Dusting something off. Something I could not see, because as far as I could tell there was nothing there. I guess, it was just him putting up some unnecessary non-challant vibes that was uncalled for.Or better still, very urgent invisible dust, apparently.I watched him do it for a moment and said nothing. Maybe he needed something to do with his hands while he decided how much of this conversation he was going to actually engage with. That was his business. I had thin

  • MATED TO THE WEREWOLF AND THE VAMPIRE.   Chapter 27 — She Smells Really Divine.

Darius POVBack at home, Eliana was still sleeping as we laid her on the bed the moment we got back.Still unconscious. And still completely unaware of everything … the parking lot, the bond, the drive here, all of it. She looked different asleep. Quieter. Like the weight she carried around with her every waking hour had finally been set down somewhere and her face could just … be still. It did something to my chest that I wasn't ready to examine too closely.I stood at the edge of the bed and looked at her and couldn't help the thoughts going through my mind.‘Now it all makes sense. But I can't believe that my mate is a human.’I kept turning it over … kept going back to what had played out in that parking lot a few hours ago, the moment both our hands had closed around hers at the same time and the bond had announced itself with that certainty

Eliana's POVAt this point, I couldn't control the fear and confusion I felt, and the thoughts already going through my mind were coming too fast for me to sort through any of them.‘No, no, no. This is exactly like my dream.’The flashback hit me before I could stop it … sharp, vivid and way too specific to dismiss. Those same faces. That same feeling. The dream I had woken up from in a cold sweat, touching the sides of my neck and telling myself it meant nothing … the one where these exact two guys had bent toward my neck and everything had gone warm and strange and consuming all at once.I had told myself it was just a dream.I had told myself that repeatedly, with full commitment, for days. But standing here right now … both of them holding my hands, and both of them looking at me with those expressions I couldn't decode.

  • MATED TO THE WEREWOLF AND THE VAMPIRE.   Chapter 25 — The Mate Bond.

Eliana's POVThen Rylan turned to the next person … one of Sara's friends — with a completely straight face. No heat in it, and no visible anger either. Just that cold, unbothered certainty that was somehow more frightening than if he'd been loud about it."Are you going to hand that phone to me," he said evenly, "or are you going to end up in juvie? Because I'll tell you now that you are going to last about two weeks in there."The girl didn't even hesitate. She pushed the phone toward him with shaking hands before he'd finished the sentence, like she'd already made her decision the moment he opened his mouth and just needed him to stop talking. He took it. Looked at it once. And then dropped it to the floor and brought his foot down on it …in one clean, decisive motion — and whatever was left of it after that was not worth picking up."Go." He said it sharp and short, directed at all of them, and it worked like a switch being flipped. They went. All of them, scattering out of that p

Eliana's POV"Get your fucking hands off her."I heard the voice just once and I knew immediately that it was Rylan …I recognized it instantly even without needing a second to think about it. Just the way you recognized something that had already found a specific place in your memory. And just like that, Jax's hand released from my neck. The pressure disappeared so fast it almost felt like being let go of something I hadn't realized was holding me under. I raised my face slowly … everything in my neck protesting the movement — and through the blur of tears I saw them.Rylan. Darius. Both of them stood there in the middle of the parking lot like they had materialized from somewhere and arrived at exactly the second they were needed.Only God knows how they knew I was in danger. Only God knows how they made it here at the exact right moment
