2. MATE!

MELISSA.

*Crack*

The sound split the air before the pain did.

His hand connected with my face with brutal force, snapping my head backward. For a moment, the world tilted, spun, then blurred as hot tears flooded my eyes. My cheek burned, skin throbbing violently as I struggled to stay upright. I tasted blood, metallic and bitter at the corner of my mouth.

I slowly lifted my head and I immediately wished I hadn’t.

The burning rage in his eyes was visible, wild and merciless, the same rage I had grown up fearing. The same rage that had lived in him ever since the day I learned to call him Dad. There was no hesitation in his expression, no doubt, no fatherly restraint. Just anger, raw and unquestioned.

I had always been the rejected one.

The unwanted twin.

The mistake.

From the moment we were born, the difference was clear. Amelia was light, the warmth, perfection. The angel everyone adored. The one whose tears moved hearts, whose words were taken as truth without question. And then there was me—the thorn lodged deep in everyone’s eyes, irritating simply by existing.

I had never belonged nor fitted into the family. Beta by birth, an Omega in life.

“You little thief,” Amelia cried, her voice sharp and trembling, though I could see the glint of satisfaction beneath her tears. “Why don’t you just tell the truth? You stole my necklace. The one Dad bought for my birthday party tomorrow.”

Her words sliced into me deeper than the slap ever could.

“I didn’t…” My voice shook as I tried to speak, my chest tightening painfully. “I swe… I swear…I…”

I didn’t even get to finish.

*Crack.*

Another slap echoed through the hall, louder than the first. This time, the force knocked me completely off balance. I hit the ground hard, palms scraping against the stone floor as pain shot through my body. My head rang, vision swimming as gasps rippled through the crowd.

It was my brother.

Fredrick stood over me, his face twisted with disgust, eyes cold and merciless.

“You bitch,” he snarled. “I knew you were always jealous of Amelia, but going as far as stealing her ceremonial necklace?” He scoffed, stepping closer. “That just proves how low you really are.”

He spat on me.

The saliva landed on my cheek, warm and degrading, mixing with my tears. Laughter murmured somewhere in the crowd. Whispers followed. Judgment pressed down on me from every direction.

I stayed on the ground, trembling, my heart shattering piece by piece.

Because no matter how much I denied it, no matter how much it hurt…

They had already chosen who to believe…and it was never going to be me.

My father’s voice cut through the noise like a blade.

“You would be punished after the Alpha’s coronation!” he said coldly, his grip firm as he lifted Amelia into his arms.

She was limp against his chest, her head lolling to the side, eyes closed. Fredrick moved immediately, falling into step beside them without sparing me a glance. Their footsteps faded as they walked away, leaving behind whispers, gasps, and the heavy weight of what had just happened.

And once again, I was alone.

The strength drained from my legs. The world tilted, blurring at the edges, until Bella rushed forward and caught my arm. She steadied me, her hands warm and grounding as she helped me back onto my feet.

“Easy,” she murmured, her voice tight with worry.

I nodded faintly, though my mind was elsewhere. All I wanted was to leave—to escape the altar, the stares, the torn fabric clinging to my skin. I needed to change my dress, to breathe, to disappear for just a moment.

Then I saw them.

The triplet Alphas.

They emerged from the crowd, identical in stature and presence, their expressions carved from stone. The air around them shifted, thick with authority, with power that pressed down on everyone present. My heart leapt painfully into my throat.

Instinct took over.

I stepped back and immediately hid behind Bella, clutching the back of her dress as though she were a shield. My pulse thundered in my ears as they walked past us, their boots echoing against the marble floor, each step measured and inevitable.

They mounted the altar.

Silence fell—deep, reverent, absolute.

The elders stepped forward and began the rituals, ancient words spilling into the air, heavy with history and tradition. Incense burned, smoke curling upward as if carrying prayers to the heavens. Each movement was precise, practiced, sacred.

I watched from behind Bella’s shoulder as the crowns were lifted.

One by one, they were placed upon the triplets’ heads.

At that moment, it was done.

They were crowned Alphas.

The crowd erupted into cheers, but the sound felt distant to me, like it was coming from underwater. My heart began to race uncontrollably, pounding so hard I was sure everyone could hear it.

The next part was coming.

The choosing.

My breath caught as the ceremonial bird was brought forth, its feathers gleaming, eyes sharp and knowing. According to tradition, the bird would choose their mate—whoever it landed on would be bound to them by fate itself.

My fingers trembled.

I told myself it wouldn’t be me. It couldn’t be me. I was no one. Just a girl standing in a ruined dress, hiding behind her friend, wishing she could vanish.

I was still tangled in my thoughts, barely aware of the bird taking flight, when Bella suddenly stiffened.

She gasped.

Then she shouted.

“It’s you, Melissa!” Her voice rang out, loud and clear, slicing through the celebration. “You are their mate!”

The world stopped.

Every head turned in my direction.

I froze, my breath locked in my chest as hundreds of eyes bore into me. Heat flooded my face, my body suddenly feeling too small, too exposed. Excitement sparked despite myself—bright and terrifying—fluttering wildly in my chest.

But it didn’t last.

Because when I finally looked at them, really looked at the triplet Alphas, the excitement drained away like water slipping through my fingers.

Their faces held no joy, just something far more frightening.

Melissa.“You still haven’t said a word,” Cypril said suddenly, his voice cutting through the tense silence as he stormed to his feet. The way he moved only made the atmosphere heavier, more suffocating.I lifted my chin slightly, forcing myself to remain steady despite the pressure building between us.“I would do anything to help you fully regain your wolf,” I said firmly, making sure my voice did not waver. “As long as it guarantees the rejection,” I added without hesitation.Cyril paused. For a moment, something unreadable flickered across his face before a slow, almost mocking smile formed.“I don’t think you would want to after that,” he said, his tone lower now, laced with something sly as a faint smirk spread across his face.I immediately rolled my eyes, refusing to be dragged into whatever game he was playing.“Just speak,” I said flatly, my patience thinning. The words came out sharper than intended, but I didn’t care anymore. I just wanted answers.Cyril exhaled lightly, a

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    161. Answer me.

MELISSA.I was confused. What exactly was he accusing me of this time?At this point, I was exhausted by his constant accusations, his unpredictable behavior, and the way he always seemed to twist everything into something it wasn't. Honestly, I didn't have the time—or the patience—for any more of his nonsense.“Look here, Mr. Stone,” I said firmly, my voice sharp as irritation surged through me. “If you have nothing important to discuss, then get your hands off me!”My words echoed between us, fueled by the anger I was no longer interested in hiding.Cyril stared at me, frustration burning intensely in his eyes. His jaw tightened as though he was struggling to control himself. Meanwhile, his hands remained firmly around my wrists, pinning them above my head against the door.“You won't leave here until I say so,” he declared. The authority in his voice only fueled my anger further. As if his actions weren't already infuriating enough, he lifted his free hand and slowly pushed a loose

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    160. The fact.

Cypril.I hadn't even gotten my wolf yet, and she was already so eager to reject me.The thought alone felt like a blade being driven straight into my chest.A deep, unbearable ache spread through my chest, tightening around my heart until it became difficult to breathe. It felt as though someone had reached inside me and ripped away something vital, leaving behind a hollow emptiness that threatened to consume me completely. This was worse—worse than losing her in that fire.Back then, there had at least been hope—fragile, painful hope, but hope nonetheless. Hope that she was still somewhere out there in the world, breathing, existing, waiting. Hope that fate, in all its cruel and unpredictable ways, would eventually twist things back into place and bring her back to me when the time was right.I had not seen her body. I had not been forced to confront that final, irreversible truth. So in my mind, no matter how much time passed, no matter how much silence stretched between us, there

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    159. Which Marriage?

Melissa.I must have heard wrong. There was absolutely no way the almighty Cypril had actually used that word. For a moment, I simply stared at him, convinced that my ears had betrayed me. Cypril was many things—arrogant, stubborn, infuriatingly proud—but that word? Coming from him? It felt impossible.I quickly turned away from him, refusing to dwell on it any longer, and shifted my attention back to Louis. The moment our eyes met, I noticed the expression on his face. It was subtle, but unmistakable, and I knew instantly that Louis was no longer enjoying Cypril's presence. The amusement that had lingered in his eyes earlier had faded considerably, replaced by a look that suggested his patience was beginning to wear thin. He sat down quietly, watching everything unfold, but there was a certain tension in his posture that hadn't been there before.“Melissa, please,” Cypril said again, his voice carrying more urgency this time. “We really need to talk!”I slowly looked back at him and

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    158. PLEASE.

MELISSA.I kept staring at Cypril, wondering what exactly it was that he wanted to tell me.The urgency in his expression was obvious. His chest was still rising and falling heavily from whatever rush had brought him here, yet I wasn't particularly interested. Not after everything that had happened between us and not after all the trouble he had caused.Still, his words about needing to talk lingered in my mind. What could possibly be so important? My brows furrowed slightly.I parted my lips, intending to speak.Perhaps it would be easier to hear him out and get it over with but before a single word could leave my mouth, the door opened again. Both Ann and I turned instinctively. The moment my eyes landed on the newcomer, my breath caught."Louis!" I called out, as I immediately moved forward, while shock flashed across my face.Just moments ago, he had been perfectly fine, yet now, bruises covered parts of his face. There was blood smeared along his cheek. The sight alone was enough

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    157. Sister-in-law

Melissa.I sat quietly in the room, my thoughts a tangled mess of anger, hurt, and frustration. The event that had just happened kept replaying in my mind over and over again. They had already chosen someone else over me. Why do they keep acting like that?I clenched my hands tightly on my lap.Beside me, Ann gently patted my back. The gesture was comforting. At least, it was supposed to be."It's alright, Melissa," she said softly, her voice calm and reassuring. "I'm glad you aren't going back to those pathetic triplets."A bitter laugh almost escaped me.The very thought of returning to them made my chest tighten. After everything that had happened, how could anyone expect me to simply forgive and forget?I scoffed loudly. "I will never go back to them." I said, as the words came out firm and unwavering, as there wasn't even a hint of hesitation in my voice. "Especially not after what they did to Bella."The memory instantly reignited my anger. My jaw tightened. The injustice of it
