2. MATE!

MELISSA.

*Crack*

The sound split the air before the pain did.

His hand connected with my face with brutal force, snapping my head backward. For a moment, the world tilted, spun, then blurred as hot tears flooded my eyes. My cheek burned, skin throbbing violently as I struggled to stay upright. I tasted blood, metallic and bitter at the corner of my mouth.

I slowly lifted my head and I immediately wished I hadn’t.

The burning rage in his eyes was visible, wild and merciless, the same rage I had grown up fearing. The same rage that had lived in him ever since the day I learned to call him Dad. There was no hesitation in his expression, no doubt, no fatherly restraint. Just anger, raw and unquestioned.

I had always been the rejected one.

The unwanted twin.

The mistake.

From the moment we were born, the difference was clear. Amelia was light, the warmth, perfection. The angel everyone adored. The one whose tears moved hearts, whose words were taken as truth without question. And then there was me—the thorn lodged deep in everyone’s eyes, irritating simply by existing.

I had never belonged nor fitted into the family. Beta by birth, an Omega in life.

“You little thief,” Amelia cried, her voice sharp and trembling, though I could see the glint of satisfaction beneath her tears. “Why don’t you just tell the truth? You stole my necklace. The one Dad bought for my birthday party tomorrow.”

Her words sliced into me deeper than the slap ever could.

“I didn’t…” My voice shook as I tried to speak, my chest tightening painfully. “I swe… I swear…I…”

I didn’t even get to finish.

*Crack.*

Another slap echoed through the hall, louder than the first. This time, the force knocked me completely off balance. I hit the ground hard, palms scraping against the stone floor as pain shot through my body. My head rang, vision swimming as gasps rippled through the crowd.

It was my brother.

Fredrick stood over me, his face twisted with disgust, eyes cold and merciless.

“You bitch,” he snarled. “I knew you were always jealous of Amelia, but going as far as stealing her ceremonial necklace?” He scoffed, stepping closer. “That just proves how low you really are.”

He spat on me.

The saliva landed on my cheek, warm and degrading, mixing with my tears. Laughter murmured somewhere in the crowd. Whispers followed. Judgment pressed down on me from every direction.

I stayed on the ground, trembling, my heart shattering piece by piece.

Because no matter how much I denied it, no matter how much it hurt…

They had already chosen who to believe…and it was never going to be me.

My father’s voice cut through the noise like a blade.

“You would be punished after the Alpha’s coronation!” he said coldly, his grip firm as he lifted Amelia into his arms.

She was limp against his chest, her head lolling to the side, eyes closed. Fredrick moved immediately, falling into step beside them without sparing me a glance. Their footsteps faded as they walked away, leaving behind whispers, gasps, and the heavy weight of what had just happened.

And once again, I was alone.

The strength drained from my legs. The world tilted, blurring at the edges, until Bella rushed forward and caught my arm. She steadied me, her hands warm and grounding as she helped me back onto my feet.

“Easy,” she murmured, her voice tight with worry.

I nodded faintly, though my mind was elsewhere. All I wanted was to leave—to escape the altar, the stares, the torn fabric clinging to my skin. I needed to change my dress, to breathe, to disappear for just a moment.

Then I saw them.

The triplet Alphas.

They emerged from the crowd, identical in stature and presence, their expressions carved from stone. The air around them shifted, thick with authority, with power that pressed down on everyone present. My heart leapt painfully into my throat.

Instinct took over.

I stepped back and immediately hid behind Bella, clutching the back of her dress as though she were a shield. My pulse thundered in my ears as they walked past us, their boots echoing against the marble floor, each step measured and inevitable.

They mounted the altar.

Silence fell—deep, reverent, absolute.

The elders stepped forward and began the rituals, ancient words spilling into the air, heavy with history and tradition. Incense burned, smoke curling upward as if carrying prayers to the heavens. Each movement was precise, practiced, sacred.

I watched from behind Bella’s shoulder as the crowns were lifted.

One by one, they were placed upon the triplets’ heads.

At that moment, it was done.

They were crowned Alphas.

The crowd erupted into cheers, but the sound felt distant to me, like it was coming from underwater. My heart began to race uncontrollably, pounding so hard I was sure everyone could hear it.

The next part was coming.

The choosing.

My breath caught as the ceremonial bird was brought forth, its feathers gleaming, eyes sharp and knowing. According to tradition, the bird would choose their mate—whoever it landed on would be bound to them by fate itself.

My fingers trembled.

I told myself it wouldn’t be me. It couldn’t be me. I was no one. Just a girl standing in a ruined dress, hiding behind her friend, wishing she could vanish.

I was still tangled in my thoughts, barely aware of the bird taking flight, when Bella suddenly stiffened.

She gasped.

Then she shouted.

“It’s you, Melissa!” Her voice rang out, loud and clear, slicing through the celebration. “You are their mate!”

The world stopped.

Every head turned in my direction.

I froze, my breath locked in my chest as hundreds of eyes bore into me. Heat flooded my face, my body suddenly feeling too small, too exposed. Excitement sparked despite myself—bright and terrifying—fluttering wildly in my chest.

But it didn’t last.

Because when I finally looked at them, really looked at the triplet Alphas, the excitement drained away like water slipping through my fingers.

Their faces held no joy, just something far more frightening.

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    99. Don't you dare?

MELISSA.“And what does it look like I am doing?” I shot back, my voice edged with defiance as I turned to face him fully. My expression hardened, every trace of hesitation gone. “Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that, Caleb?” I continued, my brows knitting together as anger flickered across my face. “How dare you barge into my room?”The words came out faster now, fueled by the frustration tightening in my chest. This wasn’t just about the interruption, it was the audacity of it. The entitlement.“Come on, spare me that!” Caleb snapped, his tone rising as he took a step closer, his presence imposing, suffocating. His eyes burned with something fierce, anger, disbelief, maybe even something darker. “You are still my wife,” he added, each word deliberate, almost accusing. "How can you go about kissing another man… and not just any man, but my cousin?”His words hit the air like a challenge, like a claim he still believed he had the right to make.I let out a quiet, humorless scoff.“M

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    98. Does She...?

Melissa.I had barely gotten to my room when I saw Davian and Ann running toward me like children, their footsteps echoing lightly against the floor as if nothing else in the world mattered at that moment. There was something so carefree, so unguarded in the way they moved, that it caught me off guard.A small smile tugged at my lips before I could stop it.For a brief second, I allowed myself to feel it, the warmth, the familiarity, the strange comfort of not being alone. But just as quickly, reality settled back in. My body felt heavy, my mind even heavier. I needed rest. I needed silence. I needed to prepare for everything the day might bring.Hopefully, the triplets would be gone for good by noon.“Melissa, come save me!” Davian yelled, his voice bright and full of energy as he rushed toward me.“Don’t, Melissa….you aren’t going to choose him over me, are you?” Ann added quickly, her tone carrying a playful edge, though there was something beneath it, something sharper, harder to

Cypril.Melissa was a totally changed person. She had always craved my touch and melted into my embrace, and now she wouldn't even let me kiss her.I stood there, frozen and stunned. I was unable to move as I watched her walk away from me like it was the easiest thing in the world. My chest felt… tight, it was not a sharp pain, neither was it something I could easily name or understand.Just this heavy, suffocating pressure, sitting right where my wolf used to be, gone and empty. And somehow… she made me feel that loss even more.My fingers curled slowly into fists at my sides, the tension building without release as my eyes remained fixed on her retreating figure.Step by step, she moved farther away. Each one widening the distance between us, her pace was steady and unhurried. Her back straight, her shoulders squared like nothing could bend her anymore. And just like that… she felt completely out of my reach.“Melissa…” The name slipped past my lips before I could stop it, soft, poi

  • MATED TO THREE, DESPISED BY ALL.    96. Not anymore.

Melissa. The moment I stepped away from Amelia, the air felt different. It was lighter and clearer, as all her bad energy was cleansed away. It was more like I had just walked out of something suffocating and into a space where I could finally breathe again. But it didn’t last.Nothing ever did.I turned the corner of the corridor, my steps steady, my chin still raised from the confrontation, but inside… my thoughts were anything but calm. Her words echoed in my head, over and over again. They all knew, those bastards knew.It was all to get rid of you.I arranged the fire.My fingers curled slightly at my sides as I walked, nails digging faintly into my palm...it had never been a mistake.Every accusation.Every punishment.Every lash.Every drop of blood I had spilled…They had deliberately planned it.A bitter smile tugged at my lips as I continued walking, my steps slowing just a fraction.Of course they did.Why was I even surprised?I had always been the easy one to discard. The

Davian.I was more than shocked to see Melissa. For a moment, I genuinely thought my mind was playing tricks on me. Those idiots, those arrogant, blind fools had told me she was dead. I had believed them. I had carried that truth like a weight on my chest for years.Yet, Melissa had been here, alive, sound and healthy, standing right in front of me. It felt unreal, like something out of a dream I had long buried. My eyes stayed fixed on her, afraid that if I looked away even for a second, she would disappear again.Seeing her like this… whole, breathing, more beautiful than I remembered, it did something to me, something dangerous.I had tried so hard to suppress my feelings for her over the years. Tried to bury them beneath duty, pride, distance… anything that would keep me from thinking about what could never be.Because out of nowhere, she was suddenly married to those useless, blind, undeserving fools who didn’t even value her.The thought alone made my jaw tighten. They had her a

Melissa.“Come on, Melissa, there’s no need to act all tough now. It’s just the two of us here.”Amelia’s voice came out soft, almost playful, as she pouted her lips like an innocent doll. The expression would have fooled anyone else as it always did but not me.Not even for the slightest bit.I stared at her, my patience already worn thin, my body still tense from everything that had happened earlier.“What exactly do you want, Amelia?” I muttered, my tone flat, unimpressed. “I’m not in for your drama right now.”She tilted her head slightly, studying me like I was something amusing, something entertaining.“Well,” she began slowly, her lips curling into a faint smile, “five years ago… did you like the accusation you received for my sake?”The question hit like a slap.My eyes darkened instantly, and I shot her a deadly glare, one that would have made anyone else step back. But Amelia? She didn’t even flinch.“Of course I knew you weren’t poisoned, moron,” I snapped, my voice laced
