Aiden’s fingers pause on the glass. For a long moment he doesn’t speak. Just the sound of ice shifting, the bottle sweating on the table between us.

When he finally looks up, his eyes aren’t sharp like before. They’re tired. Old.

“You really want to know?” he asks. His voice is lower now, almost a murmur.

I nod. My hands are tucked under my thighs to stop them from shaking. “I do.”

I want to understand why I crave Tyson, why I feel like we were meant to be. What I’m feeling right now for Tyson,

The silence that follows feels like it has weight. Like it’s pressing down on my chest, making it harder to breathe.I don’t realize I’ve stepped back until my shoulder brushes against something solid.Warm and alive. Tyson He doesn’t say anything at first, but I feel it, the shift in him. The way his body goes rigid, his presence sharpening into something dangerous.Protective.“No,” he says finally, his voice low, controlled in a way that feels forced. “That’s not happening.”The Oracle doesn’t react, doesn’t flinch.“Denial will not change what she is,” she replies calmly.“I’m not denying anything,” Tyson snaps, stepping fully in front of me now. “I’m telling you I won’t let it happen.”Something flickers in the Oracle’s eyes, not amusement, not quite approval.Something older.“Then you will have to be stronger than instinct.. Stronger than your wolf.”That lands.I see it in the way Tyson’s shoulders tense, just slightly. Because we both know what she means. His wolf doesn’t pr

  • MOONHAVEN CHRONICLES: The Captive mate    Chapter 19 - The Danger Is Me

I jolt upright in bed, a scream ripping out of my throat before I can stop it. Something is wrong. No..something is happening. The sound of my own scream shocks me more than the pain. It’s raw. Feral. Not human. For half a second the room tilts. The walls blur. The air itself seems to warp around me, bending like heat off summer stone. My lungs can’t get enough air. My heart is trying to claw its way out of my chest. My entire body feels like it’s buzzing, like electricity is racing under my skin, sharp and alive and completely out of control. It starts at my spine. A cold, bright line of fire that splits me open from the base of my skull to the small of my back. Then it branches. Tendrils of light, invisible but blazing, shoot down my arms, into my fingers, up my neck, behind my eyes. I’ve been hurt before. I’ve been burned, cut, bitten. This isn’t pain. Pain I understand. This is power. Power I don’t have a name for. Power that doesn’t care I never asked for it.I freeze, my fin

  • MOONHAVEN CHRONICLES: The Captive mate    Chapter 18 - The Word Taste Like Sin

The door to the Moonhaven packhouse groans shut behind us, and the sound feels final.Like a lock clicking into place.Tyson doesn’t speak. He doesn’t look at me. He just walks, and I follow, because what else am I supposed to do after what Aiden said in there? Wolves don’t date. They claim. My legs feel heavy. Not from the walk back through the packhouse corridors, but from the weight of his words sitting in my chest. As if my life has just been split in two and I wasn’t consulted. The stone walls we pass are cold. But tonight the cold feels different. It bites deeper. It has teeth. Every torch we pass throws shadows that stretch too long, twist too sharp, like they know something I don’t. Like the packhouse itself is holding its breath.I count my steps. Anything to keep from counting the things Aiden says. They find each other. No matter the distance. No matter the lies you tell yourself.Lies. Am I lying to myself? The scent of pine and old blood and wolf hits me harder down here

What I’m feeling right now for Tyson, the intensity, the pace my feelings are growing, the way my body crave his, this isn’t normal. But I need to know what I’m getting into. I can’t go in blindly. He exhales through his nose, sets the glass down, and leans forward. Elbows on knees. Like telling this will cost him something.“Wolves don’t… date,” he starts. “Not the way humans do. Yes, we have fun, one night stands, flings. But both parties will be aware that it’s just fun. We don’t have proposals, or rings, or ‘I love you’ after

Sleep won’t come.I lie there in the room Tyson gave me, staring at the ceiling, my body restless, my mind replaying everything, his voice, his touch, the way he said my name like it meant something more than just… me.It’s suffocating. With a frustrated sigh, I throw the covers off and slip out of bed. The floor is cold beneath my feet as I step into the quiet hallway. The house is still, almost too still, like it’s holding its breath.I don’t know where I’m going, l just know I can’t stay in that room. My steps are soft as I wander, following nothing but instinct until I catch the faint scent of something sharp, alcohol. That’s when I see him.Aiden is sitting alone in the dim light, a glass in his hand, a bottle on the table. He doesn’t look up when I enter, but I know he’s aware of me. People like him always are.“Couldn’t sleep either?” His voice is rough, like it’s been dragged over gravel. After whatever silence or coded conversation he had with Tyson earlier, Aiden has change

My breath catches. “You don’t know?” he murmurs. My heart starts pounding. “No,” I whisper. He steps closer. Too close.I can feel the heat of him now, the steady rise and fall of his chest. My body reacts before my mind can catch up, every nerve suddenly awake, hyper aware.“You jumped in front of a death spell,” he says. “For me.”His hand lifts, for a second, I think he’s going to touch my face but he stops just short.Like he’s holding himself back.“That’s not something people just do.”His voice is rough now. I shouldn’t lean into him, I shouldn’t want him to close that distance. But I do.“I didn’t think,” I admit softly. “I just… couldn’t let it happen.”His jaw tightens, then his control slips. His hand finally touches me. My breath hitches as his fingers brush my cheek, low, careful, like he’s testing if I’m real. The touch is soft, but it sends heat rushing through me.“You don’t even understand what you are,” he says, almost to himself.I frown slightly. “Then tell me.”H

After that I don’t go back to my room immediately.I should. That would be the smart thing to do, lock the door, sit in a corner, and pretend none of this is real. I stormed back to my room, slamming the door hard enough for the echo to rattle the thin walls.I’m angry, furious, even.
