LOGIN"Welcome." Lucas announced with a flourish as they arrived at a grand villa, standing out amidst the verdant hills of Opio. The villa exuded the charm of Provencal architecture, boasting of stone walls, a terracotta roof, and arched windows. Its terrace offered a stunning view of the sea, while a private pool and a small dock with a sleek yacht completed the idyllic picture.
The villa was surrounded by a high wall, guarded by two muscular men in black suits and sunglasses. Kate was awestruck by the magnificence of her surroundings and the meticulous security measures in place. A surge of adrenaline pulsed through her as she remembered Lucas' words. ‘My enemies wouldn't be foolish enough to attack you in my villa.’
"So, this is your home?" She asked, gazing at the imposing villa in front of her.
"And yours." Lucas replied, a tinge of satisfaction in his voice that made Kate snap her mouth shut. "I still prefer my apartment," she quipped, unwilling to back down.
"Including the ruthless gunmen?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, questioning her.
"No!" Kate exclaimed.
"Then that's a point in favor of my villa." Lucas countered as Kate rolled her eyes. "Hardly an advantage when your deal is the reason those gunmen were after me in the first place."
Lucas didn't respond, shaking his head as he walked towards the front door. The inside was just as impressive as the outside.
"Within the villa, you are free to come and go as you please. But when you do, make sure you have someone with you for protection, preferably Ace." Lucas advised.
"Is it still dangerous for me to be seen in public?" Kate frowned, worried.
"Most won't dare to harm you in a crowd, but it's best not to take any chances." Lucas reassured her. "This is your room. Dinner will be served at six in the dining room, don't be late." With that, Lucas left the room.
Kate gazed around the room, feeling a sense of melancholy at the dark colors and masculine aesthetic. She brushed away an invisible tear, determined to put up with her new living arrangements for the sake of their deal.
She let out another sigh as she made her way to the bedside and carefully lowered herself onto the bed.
"What am I supposed to do now? Sit here and dwell on how I almost got shot?" She closed her eyes and then reopened them, fixating on the shimmering ring adorning her finger. "Am I a prisoner or a princess?"
Lost in her thoughts, she sat there for quite some time until there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" She asked, exhaustion evident in her voice.
"Ace."
"Come in." Ace entered the room, carrying two suitcases.
"Glad to see you're still in one piece. After taking care of the situation, I packed your belongings for you."
"Oh, thank you, Ace. But... are you okay?" She tilted her head, concerned.
"What? You doubted me?" Ace grinned and confidently walked into the room. "Those suckers never had a chance!"
She couldn't help but smile at him, a small sense of relief washing over her. He placed the suitcases on the bed.
"You really packed all my things?" Kate asked again, touched by his gesture.
"Yup! All your clothes and anything else you might need." His cheeks turned a light shade of pink, and he quickly averted his gaze. "And... umm... Don't worry, I made sure not to peek at your... you know..."
"Sorry?" Kate's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Your... unmentionables." Ace's phrasing coupled with his blush caused Kate to stifle a laugh. ‘He seems so tough, I never expected him to be shy about underwear.’ She found it oddly endearing.
"Um... did you pack my toothbrush?" Kate interjected, wanting to change the subject.
"Yup, and your hairbrush and makeup too," Ace replied, clearly relieved to move on from the topic.
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it! I'll leave you to unpack then." He gave her a friendly nod and made his way to the door.
Alone once again, Kate exhaled deeply and quietly uttered, "Welcome to my new life."
The first thing she did was open up the suitcases to change into fresh clothes. She spent a considerable amount of time unpacking before she realized it was almost six o'clock. She emerged from her room and headed to the dining room.
Locating the dining room proved effortless for Kate, as Lucas had already taken his seat at the head chair. She settled across from him, but he scowled at her attire. "Those clothes won't suffice."
"Excuse me?"
"If that's your best outfit, we'll need to rectify that," he disapproved, his expression revealing his disappointment.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Kate asked, observing herself once more. She had thrown on a faded blue jean trouser and a slightly oversized black top.
"They're inappropriate for a woman in your new role. From now on, you'll dress accordingly. That's settled." Lucas then proceeded to explain the terms of their arrangement.
"Rules?" Kate furrowed her brows, and Lucas nodded.
"Any associate of the mafia must adhere to a contract, and I expect the same from you. Firstly, no outside relationships. If you were caught with another man, it would ruin everything we hope to achieve with this plan. That includes any physical involvement with others." Kate's face flushed at his last statement.
"What do you mean, ‘with others’?"
Lucas raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "What, you just moved in and you're already so eager? Unfortunately for you, I'm a busy man and won't have time to cater to your desires."
‘What the hell? Not only is he a rude and arrogant gangster, but he's also full of himself!’ Kate thought to herself.
"W-Wait a minute! Th-That's not what I meant," she stuttered in reaction to his conceit, but Lucas simply took a sip of his wine and continued.
"Secondly, no meddling in my affairs. Since this relationship is a temporary arrangement, it's best if you know as little as possible about my business. This villa is yours, but you are prohibited from entering my room and office."
"I wasn't exactly hoping to learn about the mafia anyway," Kate mused as she shrugged.
Hi guys..... Welcome again to Mr. Mafia Achilles Heels. I'd appreciate your support, review, comments and lovely gem. What do you think about Kate and Lucas so far?
Kate struggled in Matteo's arms for a while, and when she saw that he still wouldn't let her go, she lowered her head and bit down hard on his arm, almost drawing blood. He immediately released her, his face scrunched up in pain as he glared at her.She quickly distanced herself from him and looked at him with anger in her eyes. “You disappoint me," she said in a restrained tone, then turned around and stormed out of the room.“Fool,” Matteo cursed, regretting holding her like that. He didn't like the look she'd given him, and seeing how angrily she’d left, he wondered if he was ever going to see her again. Would she still want to have anything to do with him?Kate was so blinded by anger that when she came out of the room, she didn't notice Elizabeth standing a few feet away. She made her way to the elevator and stepped inside, her mind filled with anger as she replayed the scene of falling onto Matteo in her head. While Elizabeth watched, the elevator closed and Kate was lost in he
“What is she doing here?” Elizabeth muttered, her eyes fixed on a woman’s back.Aiden, who was standing beside her, followed her gaze, and they landed on a familiar figure. He glanced away from the woman, then turned back to Elizabeth. “Her friend is currently being treated in the hospital,” he said, and Elizabeth raised a brow at him. Aiden sighed, knowing she didn’t understand, and then decided to explain further.“The cop guy; Matteo Spencer is a friend of hers, and apparently, he was the one she’d eloped with before the wedding. Lucas had found them together and shot him in the leg. He used him to get her to appear for the wedding and told his men to bring him to the hospital to treat his wound as per the girl’s wish.” He chuckled after his explanation.“What’s funny?” Elizabeth asked with a hiss.“It’s funny how Lucas had his men bring him to the same hospital they’d brought you to. A fantastic coincidence, isn’t it?”Elizabeth glared at Aiden, and he shut his mouth, the grin di
Matteo lay in the hospital bed as different thoughts crossed his mind. He stared blankly at the ceiling, wondering what had happened to Kate after he was brought to the hospital. ‘Did she get married to him already?’ he thought bitterly, then shook his head as other thoughts made their way into his mind.‘Why hasn't she come to visit me yet? Is he stopping her from coming to see me?’ he mused, letting out a frustrated sigh. He was tired of being in the hospital; he wanted to be discharged and find out if Kate was unharmed. His eyes strayed to his legs covered in stitches, and he gritted his teeth as memories of how Lucas had shot him in the leg and used him to threaten Kate into marrying him resurfaced. “That conniving bastard!” he muttered under his breath as he clenched his fists.Lucas had humiliated him and taken the one woman he’d ever loved. He wondered if he would ever feel that way for someone else like he had for Kate. If only he'd accepted his feelings for her back then, the
Morning sun spilled gently into Lucas's room, and he stirred awake, feeling weight on his hand. He opened his eyes slowly, and there she was: his wife, sleeping peacefully beside him.Kate's head rested on his outstretched hand, and her breaths were soft and even in sleep. A grin spread across his lips as he watched her, and looking at her asleep, he wondered what he’d done right in life to deserve this moment. After watching her breathe against him for a while, Lucas gently lifted her head from his hand and placed her on the pillow; his movements slow and gentle. Then his hands moved around her waist, holding her in place. As Lucas gazed at her sleeping face, his mind wandered to the question she’d asked him last night, and the smile slid off his face. She had asked him a simple question, yet it had been so difficult for him to give her an answer. What was he supposed to say to her?Tell her everything? No. He couldn't do that. He didn't have the courage to show her his fears, nor di
Night had settled over the mansion, casting a dark silence over the rooms. Wilson stepped into the living room, his eyes scanning the space for any sign of his daughter. When he didn't find her, he walked into the kitchen to get a glass of water. After pouring himself a drink, he placed the cup down and headed back into the living room. That's when he spotted Aiden and asked, “Where's my daughter?”“She had retired to her room," Aiden replied. Wilson nodded, his eyes drifting towards the large clock on the wall. It had just struck midnight. He hesitated, his mind torn between heading back to his own room or checking on Elizabeth.Lately, he’d been worried about her, ever since the incident with Lucas. Elizabeth had become withdrawn, rarely leaving the house. Wilson's concern got the better of him, and instead of going back to his room, he decided to check on his daughter. With that thought, he climbed the flight of stairs, his footsteps quiet on the carpeted floor as he made his way t
“What about now?” Lucas asked, and when Kate cast him a confused look, he explained, “What does he mean to you now?""Umm…” Kate paused, letting his question hang in the air for a while as she collected her thoughts. ‘What does Matteo mean to her now?’Her mind drifted back to the memories she’d shared with Matteo— the late-night conversations, the laughter, the tears they had shared together when Matteo had lost his mother. The way her heart used to flutter softly in her chest when he was around her or smiled at her.As she reflected on her feelings, Kate realized that her feelings for Matteo had evolved over time. She had a crush on him ever since he saved her from those bullies at school. And she’d tried letting him know back then that he meant more to her. But Matteo always treated her like a sister; he made her feel he considered her nothing more than a best friend.Kate could vividly remember the conversation she had overheard at Matteo's house with his mother. “Do you like her?
