LOGIN"Welcome." Lucas announced with a flourish as they arrived at a grand villa, standing out amidst the verdant hills of Opio. The villa exuded the charm of Provencal architecture, boasting of stone walls, a terracotta roof, and arched windows. Its terrace offered a stunning view of the sea, while a private pool and a small dock with a sleek yacht completed the idyllic picture.
The villa was surrounded by a high wall, guarded by two muscular men in black suits and sunglasses. Kate was awestruck by the magnificence of her surroundings and the meticulous security measures in place. A surge of adrenaline pulsed through her as she remembered Lucas' words. ‘My enemies wouldn't be foolish enough to attack you in my villa.’
"So, this is your home?" She asked, gazing at the imposing villa in front of her.
"And yours." Lucas replied, a tinge of satisfaction in his voice that made Kate snap her mouth shut. "I still prefer my apartment," she quipped, unwilling to back down.
"Including the ruthless gunmen?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, questioning her.
"No!" Kate exclaimed.
"Then that's a point in favor of my villa." Lucas countered as Kate rolled her eyes. "Hardly an advantage when your deal is the reason those gunmen were after me in the first place."
Lucas didn't respond, shaking his head as he walked towards the front door. The inside was just as impressive as the outside.
"Within the villa, you are free to come and go as you please. But when you do, make sure you have someone with you for protection, preferably Ace." Lucas advised.
"Is it still dangerous for me to be seen in public?" Kate frowned, worried.
"Most won't dare to harm you in a crowd, but it's best not to take any chances." Lucas reassured her. "This is your room. Dinner will be served at six in the dining room, don't be late." With that, Lucas left the room.
Kate gazed around the room, feeling a sense of melancholy at the dark colors and masculine aesthetic. She brushed away an invisible tear, determined to put up with her new living arrangements for the sake of their deal.
She let out another sigh as she made her way to the bedside and carefully lowered herself onto the bed.
"What am I supposed to do now? Sit here and dwell on how I almost got shot?" She closed her eyes and then reopened them, fixating on the shimmering ring adorning her finger. "Am I a prisoner or a princess?"
Lost in her thoughts, she sat there for quite some time until there was a knock on the door.
"Who is it?" She asked, exhaustion evident in her voice.
"Ace."
"Come in." Ace entered the room, carrying two suitcases.
"Glad to see you're still in one piece. After taking care of the situation, I packed your belongings for you."
"Oh, thank you, Ace. But... are you okay?" She tilted her head, concerned.
"What? You doubted me?" Ace grinned and confidently walked into the room. "Those suckers never had a chance!"
She couldn't help but smile at him, a small sense of relief washing over her. He placed the suitcases on the bed.
"You really packed all my things?" Kate asked again, touched by his gesture.
"Yup! All your clothes and anything else you might need." His cheeks turned a light shade of pink, and he quickly averted his gaze. "And... umm... Don't worry, I made sure not to peek at your... you know..."
"Sorry?" Kate's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Your... unmentionables." Ace's phrasing coupled with his blush caused Kate to stifle a laugh. ‘He seems so tough, I never expected him to be shy about underwear.’ She found it oddly endearing.
"Um... did you pack my toothbrush?" Kate interjected, wanting to change the subject.
"Yup, and your hairbrush and makeup too," Ace replied, clearly relieved to move on from the topic.
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it! I'll leave you to unpack then." He gave her a friendly nod and made his way to the door.
Alone once again, Kate exhaled deeply and quietly uttered, "Welcome to my new life."
The first thing she did was open up the suitcases to change into fresh clothes. She spent a considerable amount of time unpacking before she realized it was almost six o'clock. She emerged from her room and headed to the dining room.
Locating the dining room proved effortless for Kate, as Lucas had already taken his seat at the head chair. She settled across from him, but he scowled at her attire. "Those clothes won't suffice."
"Excuse me?"
"If that's your best outfit, we'll need to rectify that," he disapproved, his expression revealing his disappointment.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Kate asked, observing herself once more. She had thrown on a faded blue jean trouser and a slightly oversized black top.
"They're inappropriate for a woman in your new role. From now on, you'll dress accordingly. That's settled." Lucas then proceeded to explain the terms of their arrangement.
"Rules?" Kate furrowed her brows, and Lucas nodded.
"Any associate of the mafia must adhere to a contract, and I expect the same from you. Firstly, no outside relationships. If you were caught with another man, it would ruin everything we hope to achieve with this plan. That includes any physical involvement with others." Kate's face flushed at his last statement.
"What do you mean, ‘with others’?"
Lucas raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "What, you just moved in and you're already so eager? Unfortunately for you, I'm a busy man and won't have time to cater to your desires."
‘What the hell? Not only is he a rude and arrogant gangster, but he's also full of himself!’ Kate thought to herself.
"W-Wait a minute! Th-That's not what I meant," she stuttered in reaction to his conceit, but Lucas simply took a sip of his wine and continued.
"Secondly, no meddling in my affairs. Since this relationship is a temporary arrangement, it's best if you know as little as possible about my business. This villa is yours, but you are prohibited from entering my room and office."
"I wasn't exactly hoping to learn about the mafia anyway," Kate mused as she shrugged.
Hi guys..... Welcome again to Mr. Mafia Achilles Heels. I'd appreciate your support, review, comments and lovely gem. What do you think about Kate and Lucas so far?
“Are we going to the villa?" Kate asked as they rounded the hospital hallway. Her eyes flicked down to the oversized hospital slippers Victor had found for her. He’d told her to wear them for now, until they got to the mall. Victor said they would stop there before he took her to where Lucas was."No,” he replied curtly.Kate frowned slightly at his curt response. “Where then? And don't I need to get discharged before leaving?" she asked, tilting her head to the side as she tried to match Victor’s walking pace.Victor sighed. Lucas hadn't told him Kate was such a question asker. She was asking him too many questions at the same time.He stopped walking and turned to her. "I can't tell you anything about where I'm taking you since it is meant to be a surprise,” he said, looking at her face. "You don't have to worry about the hospital; you’re already discharged. Lucas handled that before leaving.”Kate nodded her head. Then they resumed walking, but she suddenly paused when something oc
“Have you lost your mind?" Victor snapped, looking at Lucas as if he’d suddenly grown two heads.Lucas shook his head. “No, I haven't," he replied curtly. “You’ll take control for me, Lucas, and protect the familia like you would your own. The gangs will answer to you, and nothing about the familia will concern me anymore. You're the only one I trust enough to handle this. Please, you cannot refuse me.”Victor exhaled loudly as he searched Lucas's face. “Why are you doing this?" he asked. Then his eyes narrowed as he immediately put the pieces together. “This is because of Kate, isn't it?"Lucas's silence was enough for Victor to know he’d guessed right. He cursed under his breath and glared at Lucas. “Why are you throwing everything away for the sake of a woman? Is she worth giving up everything for? Uncle Julian wouldn’t be pleased about this. Hell, even I don’t support this madness."The air around Lucas grew heavy, charged. His eyes burned and his whole body tensed as if every wor
As Julian waited for Erick to come back, his eyes kept drifting to the door. When it finally opened without a knock, he rose from his seat in one motion.‘That had to be Erick,’ he thought.Erick stepped in and handed him two brown paper files. “Here's the information you asked for."Julian acknowledged Erick by nodding his head, then took the files and sat back down. He set them in front of him, staring for a moment, praying silently that his suspicion was right. Then he opened the first file and scanned the front page details: Deceased file of Anthony and Katelyn Walker. He flipped to the next page and read through the details, his eyes moving fast until they stopped on their surviving child, whose name was none other than Kate Walker.Julian didn't react right away. He set that file aside and opened the second one: the file with Kate's information. He scanned it quickly.By the time he finished, satisfaction settled in his chest; cold and immediate.Kate was the daughter of Anthony
“Really?” Kate asked, her voice rising slightly with surprise. She had thought it would take her time before she could finally convince Lucas to change his ways of doing things. But hearing him give in to her so easily truly surprised her.‘Matteo was right. She really had the power to steady Lucas.’“Yes,” Lucas affirmed with a nod, and a bright smile instantly bloomed across Kate's face. She suddenly closed the distance between them and wrapped her hands around his neck. “I know changing won't be easy,” she murmured softly, affection shining in her eyes. “But thank you for wanting to try for my sake. I love you, Mr. Mafia.”Lucas raised his brows. “Why do you call me that?” he asked, amused. If he remembered correctly, this was the third time she had called him by that nickname.Kate giggled as she pulled away from him. “Because that's the nickname I chose for you. You're from the mafia, aren't you?”Lucas chuckled. “Well, I'll be stepping down tonight and giving the reins to someon
"What?" Kate whispered shakily, staring at Lucas as if she had suddenly stopped understanding the room around her."What did you say?" she asked, fear slowly creeping into her eyes.Lucas exhaled slowly, looking like he wanted to take back the last few minutes entirely. Regret flashed across his face as he looked at her.He had been the one who threatened the doctors into keeping the truth from her. He had also warned Ace and Victor not to tell her anything either. All because he couldn't bear the thought of hurting her with the news. And now, in a moment of anger, he had destroyed that himself. "I... I didn't mean that, Kitty," he said quickly, trying to salvage the situation."Forget what I said—""No." Kate shook her head immediately, cutting him off. "Don't lie to me, Lucas. I want the truth."Kate's breath heaved as she continued, "What did you mean?" she asked again, her voice now trembling. "Was I preg...?"The word refused to leave her mouth completely, as she searched Lucas's
Bob stood to the side, watching the couple with widened eyes. They had completely ignored his existence and were in their own little world. Now that he realized Lucas had fallen hopelessly in love with Kate, Bob was ecstatic.'Doesn't that mean he could gamble at the casino now that things are settled between them?' Bob mused in his head.Kate shook her head. “Not anymore.”Lucas's face fell at her words. “You…”“I was scared when you told your men to chop off Wilson's fingers,” she admitted softly, cutting him off before he could speak further. “You were terrifying, Lucas. I got chills just looking at your back that day.”Lucas's gaze lowered slightly.“But later,” Kate continued quietly, “I realized you were avenging Wilson for all the terrible things he has done. And suddenly…I couldn’t bring myself to pity him anymore. I didn’t let my fear decide how I see you.”Something in Lucas shifted, and his hand moved to her waist gently, reverently. “Thank you,” he murmured hoarsely before
“Kitty," Lucas called out, breaking the comfortable silence between them, and Kate hummed against his chest. “Why don’t you tell me more about yourself? I want to know what you like and the things you don’t. I want to know every single detail about you; from your childhood days to your teenage year
“Is the sun rising from the west today?” Ace said as he entered the kitchen and saw Lucas wearing an apron, mixing something in a bowl while the chef stood by, giving him instructions. Ace raised his eyebrows. “What are you doing?" he asked curiously.Lucas was not the type to set foot in the kitc
“What did you say?” Kate asked, wanting Lucas to elaborate further. ‘What does he mean that he wants her to move into his room? Was he breaking his own rules?’“I want you to move into my room," Lucas repeated. Kate's eyes swirled with warmth, yet confusion. She couldn't read the man before her; he
The next morning, Lucas woke up with the light of the sun caressing the curtains with its golden rays. His emerald eyes peeled open, and the first thing that greeted his sight was the beautiful face of his wife.‘His wife,’ Lucas repeated in his head, liking the sound of it. She slept peacefully, f
