CHAPTER 5
TAYLOR While I sank deep into my thoughts in bewilderment, Mr Rover was busy looking me over from head to toe and with a sigh of disapproval, he stood up from his chair and waved his forefinger at me to stand up too. I quickly did as he wanted and when he held my wrist without warning, I felt my body freeze because I never saw it coming. Mr Rover was holding me! His hand was on my wrist! And I was trying to get used to it. “Let's get you into something better before you meet my father” he said and with that, he pulled me along with him, not bothering to let me finish my breakfast. Fernandez led the way and opened the doors for us until we got inside the car; I got into the passenger seat while Mr Rover occupied the driver's seat and a deafening and awkward silence filled the car as he drove off until we arrived at a beauty shop. The place screamed of luxury and sophistication when we walked in and I looked around in awe while we waited for the manager. Then I heard the sound of heels coming toward us and when I turned to look, it was a woman. “Hello Mr Rover. So nice to see you again” a very cheerful looking woman, whom I could tell was the manager, greeted him after she approached us and I just stared at her. “Miss Blair? Is that you?” She asked in surprise when our eyes met and Mr Rover quickly stood in between us just as I was about to introduce myself. “Just get her something to wear, Mrs Lewis. We're meeting my father today and time is running out” he cut her off while I wondered who this Miss Blair could be and Mrs Lewis nodded in response before she pulled me away to get me dressed. Forty minutes later, I was dressed in a pair of dark green knitted skirt and top, my hair was styled into wavy lines with a fringe and my face was subtly made up. I looked exactly how a father would want to see his son's girlfriend… perfect. While I looked in the mirror, I couldn't stop smiling. I'd never looked so expensive before and the texture of the clothes against my skin felt so good too. I got curious to know what Mr Rover would do when he saw me. So I walked out to meet him in the waiting room but he gave no reaction when he saw me and I couldn't explain why but I felt very disappointed. It was like I wanted to impress him and hear him compliment me but at the same time, I hated that I felt that way. So we both left for his car and after getting in, the awkward silence returned but he didn't even seem bothered. He just drove off toward a hospital as our destination and that surprised me because I expected we would arrive at a mansion to meet his father. “Look here, Taylor. We met at a charity event and started to date after we realized we were into each other. Okay?” he said to me while we got into an elevator and I nodded as I clasped my hands together to calm my nerves. I couldn't believe I would have to tell a lie to his father about how we met when in truth, I was just his hostage. Someone whose legs he would sever if I tried to escape. My heart was thundering with anxiety by the time we walked out of the elevator and I'd begun to doubt if I could pull off the act of being his girlfriend the closer we got to the ward his father was. Then he stopped at a door and opened it and he held onto my wrist again before we both walked into the room to see an older man who looked just like him lying in the bed. “Hey dad, how are you doing?” He greeted him while we both stood at the foot of the bed and his father smiled at him before fixing his golden eyes on me. I could tell that Mr Rover got his blue eyes from his mum. “Who is the beautiful young lady? Why does she seem so familiar, Michael?” His father asked and right then, the door swung open again and I looked to see another man who looked just like Mr Rover too but a bit older walking in and when our eyes locked, he stopped in his tracks and looked me over with obvious shock in his eyes. He had the same look Mrs Lewis had from earlier when she saw me and I wondered if it was about this same Miss Blair again because it was weird that his father too said I looked familiar. “Excuse us Taylor. I'll come for you when I'm done” Mr Rover suddenly dismissed me and I whipped my head toward him in surprise because I hadn't even introduced myself to his father yet. “Taylor” he called my name again but this time, with a tone of warning and immediately, I rushed out of the room and closed the door behind me before taking a seat on the chair beside the room. I couldn't stop wondering… who was this mysterious Miss Blair? Why did Mrs Lewis call me that, why did Mr Rover's father say I looked familiar and why was the other man who looked like Mr Rover shocked to see me? Something was wrong and I was curious to know what it was. Ten minutes later, Mr Rover stormed out of the room. Then he walked toward me and took my hand again before he pulled me away and once we got into an elevator, he looked at me. “We're getting married today” he announced and his words pushed me into shock as I stared at him in absolute speechlessness. Was I stuck in a dream or did he just say that we were getting married?CHAPTER 90MICHAEL Morning came faster than I anticipated and immediately the alarm on my phone started to ring, I quickly turned it off and turned back to watch Taylor sleep while we both laid in bed.She looked adorable. Never in my thirty years of living had I ever been so enamored with a person like I was with her and knowing that what I felt with Blair was nothing compared to this, made me realize just how much I loved Taylor.I knew for sure that I wouldn't be able to do without her if she ever left me.Soon, she groaned and stretched. Then she slowly opened her eyes and seeing I was watching her, her face turned crimson before she slapped her palms over her face.“Don't look at me while I'm asleep!” she shrieked and I chuckled. Then I inched closer to her and kissed the back of both hands and they both fell as she looked at me with an even redder face.“Why shouldn't I look at you? You were a sight to behold” I told her after her hands fell and she threw her head back for a mo
CHAPTER 89TAYLORFriday came and together with Michael, we left for Hague. Arriving at the airport, the guard stationed there was already waiting and he led us to the car which drove us off to the hotel.Arriving at the hotel, the staff led us to our room and handed over our key card before excusing himself. Then we both walked into the room and Michael seemed very quiet.I watched him take his seat on one of the couches before I joined him on the chair beside him and he looked at me.“You've got something to ask, haven't you?” He asked and I nodded while smiling. He knew me too well.“Yeah… you've been sulking. Why?” I asked and he smirked.“I don't sulk” he denied and I raised a brow.“But you were,” I insisted and he chuckled.“Are you worried about what Carlos would do once your father knows what he's been up to?” I asked him and he looked at me, clearly surprised to know that I knew what he was thinking and my smile grew wider.“You aren't the only one who knows me too well, Mi
CHAPTER 88TAYLORI was finally getting discharged after being held back at the hospital for two more days after the big confession incident between me and Michael. After that day, he still stayed by my side in the ward, and it suddenly felt like everything was electrified every time we touched or brushed against each other.I could tell that he felt it too because his eyes said it all. It was obvious that the only reason why he was holding back was because I was admitted to the hospital, and it made me wonder… what exactly was going to happen once I was discharged and we both left?“And… you're set to leave, Mrs Rover,” the doctor said, and I smiled as I got off the bed and wore the coat that Michael handed over to me.“Thanks doctor. I appreciate your care for the last few days,” I told him, and he shook his head.“Just doing my job, ma’am,” he replied, and Michael took my hand, so I looked at him.“Come on. Let's go home,” he said, and I stared at him longer as I tried to get used
CHAPTER 87TAYLOR “You were scared you'd lose me? Why?” I asked as I pulled away from the hug and he paused for a moment as realization filled his eyes. I figured he didn't mean to say that and I killed all hopes in my heart before distancing myself and lying back in bed.“I'd like to go back to sleep please. Can I be alone?” I asked while looking him dead in the eyes. So he would understand that I didn't want him around and his lips parted. He looked like he wanted to say something but at the same time, he was holding back and I rolled my eyes before turning to face the wall.“I'm going to sleep now, Michael. Goodbye” I dismissed him and he grabbed my arm. I turned my head to look at him and he turned me around completely to face him which was another surprising event for the night.“What? You want to tell me you didn't mean that either?” I asked him and he shook his head before breaking eye contact with me and I frowned because that was a first. “I meant what I said, Taylor. I was
CHAPTER 86TAYLOR My eyes twitched as I caught the smell of medicine. Then I opened them to see where I was and the first thing I saw was a white ceiling.I was too weak to move or speak. So I just helplessly stared at nothing while remembering the accident, the dead driver and the sound of the ambulance before I passed out. Then I heard footsteps and when I looked, it was Michael.“Michael?” I called for him, my voice weak and low and he rushed toward me, his eyes filled with relief before he took my hand and kissed the back without a warning. “You're awake” he said, his voice also sounding relieved but I was too surprised to give a response. He'd never done that before so I was shocked because it was so random and unexpected. He stared back at me too, his eyes still filled with relief and suddenly, I remembered how he kissed me before I walked out of the penthouse that evening. So I looked away to avoid making eye contact again.“What happened? Where am I?” I asked him and I hear
CHAPTER 85TAYLOR I walked through the rain nonstop. My clothes got soaked immediately but I didn't care. I didn't even seem to notice because my mind was elsewhere.Michael killed Malcolm. He claimed he did it to protect me but he took a man's life and I didn't know how to feel about it.Or maybe I could say that I felt guilty to know that a part of me was relieved to know he was gone for good.Because Michael was right. Malcolm was going to hurt me again. He was going to come back and do something worse to me if I didn't get him any money but apart from that… the son of a bitch was the reason why I got sold off to Michael in the first place. He betrayed me so a part of me believed he deserved it… but that part was hard to accept. Because I didn't want to live like Michael. I didn't want to think that killing people was a normal thing. At that thought, I saw I had reached an intersection and I stopped as the lights turned green. Then I looked up to watch the cars speed by and I won
CHAPTER 84TAYLORI arrived at the penthouse, and immediately I walked into the house, I rushed toward Michael’s room and knocked on his door as hard as I could. He pulled it open to face me and we both stared at each other. “I just found out Malcolm's dead” I started and he folded his hands across his chest.“And?” He asked and I took a step closer to him.“Do you have something to do with it?” I asked and he tilted his head to the side before he gave me a once over like he was trying to read me.“Why do you care about his death, Taylor?” He asked and I paused for a moment. He didn't look a bit surprised to hear that Malcolm was dead. It seemed… almost like he expected it.“You had him killed, didn't you?” I asked him as I narrowed my eyes and held my breath while waiting for his response and he eyed me.“He killed your cat” was his defense and quickly, I took two steps back to stay away from him.“How could you?... How could you just… Why?” I screamed as horror ran through my blood
CHAPTER 83TAYLORDays passed and the mood between me and Michael remained ice cold. At work, all we did was communicate only when it had to do with work and back in the penthouse, all I did was cook but I always made sure to eat alone in my room.I was determined not to warm up to him except he apologized to me. So things remained stiff between us until a week later and it was the weekend. I didn't want to share the same space with him. I didn't want to speak to him or see him either… so I decided to go out for a while and I didn't care if he would get mad or not.I got dressed and left a note on the refrigerator to let him know I was out. Then I left for the destination I had in mind and it was the cafe where I worked before Malcolm changed the trajectory of my life overnight. The doorbell rang as I pushed it open and the owner, Mr Freddie, rose his head to look at me and he beamed once he recognized me.“Taylor darling! Its really you” he gushed happily as I walked toward the coun
CHAPTER 82TAYLOR Wielding all the strength I had left in me, I charged at Malcolm and I sent him a punch straight to the face. My knuckles hurt upon the impact but I didn't care because I successfully broke his nose. For me, it was enough to justify Mane's sudden death because of him. So while he writhed in pain from his broken nose, I grabbed the bag of seasoning and sauce I bought from where I dropped it and walked away without another word to him.I reached the penthouse and pausing before the door, I wiped off my tears and stopped myself from shedding anymore tears. I didn't want Michael to know what happened because I didn't want to feel like I owed him if he ended up getting me a new cat. Then I adjusted my dress and exhaled heavily as I mentally readied myself to go in there and act like I didn't just lose my cat… like everything was normal. So I pushed open the door after putting in the code and as I walked in, standing before me was Michael and he had a deep frown on his
