“My little sister,” I sighed. “She went missing five years ago. Just vanished. No calls. No notes. One minute we were talking about her applying to art school, the next… she was gone.”

I paused my throat tightening.

“I was on assignment far away when it happened, was told she left work and no one saw her thereafter. I blame myself for not being there.” I sighed. “Every moment since, I’ve tried to find her. Every clue leads to a dead end. Sometimes I wonder if she just doesn’t want to be found.. But Lucy wouldn’t do that to me. Not without a reason.” I nodded slowly.

Bianca’s expression softened, her own pain briefly forgotten.

“I’ve sat with families like mine, people who live in limbo. I’ve seen the way it eats them alive. Now I’m one of them.” I continued.

She reached across the table and touched my hand gently.
