DEVON'S POV
Looking at the now-sleeping Karen, I couldn't be any more disgusted by her continuous pretense. She always acted innocent and put on that pitiful face, yet she was a whore, even worse than my other whores.
I put on my clothes and zipped up my trousers; the scene of her making out with Stephan flashed in my mind. She had claimed to be a virgin, yet she couldn't wait to throw herself at my cousin.
The urge to destroy that little charade of hers by breaking her was so strong, I had to remind myself that I needed to find out all the people she was working with before I did anything about her betrayal.
I looked at her once again before leaving the room. I was called the ruthless billionaire for a reason, and I was going to make her see that side of me that people feared.
"All girls are like that," someone said behind me; without looking, I knew it was Stephan. I stifled a snort. Stephen was my least favorite person at the moment, and if I did not think Karen was not worth it, I'd have considered dealing with him for touching what was mine.
"Stephan, I want to be alone," I said calmly, but he obviously didn't miss the edge in my voice. He seemed to know I wasn't in a very good mood and decided to leave me alone. I went back to the room and lay beside her before drifting off to sleep.
The next day, I woke up and looked beside me; she wasn't there. I stood up and saw her standing hopelessly in front of a mirror, looking lost and hopeless. She looked so pitiful, such a good pretender. I couldn't stand her pretense.
"Little Karen, why were you looking so lost?" I said walking up to her. Karen looked scared when she heard my voice. I was so disgusted. Why was she so good at pretending? Why didn't I realize in time how evil and vile she was?
"Nothing, Devon. I was just remembering our first few dates," she said, a few tears glistening at her eyes.
She was wearing one of my T. shirts that was obviously big on her. The sleeves that should have stopped at the arm, coming down to her wrists, emphasizing how small and vulnerable she was.
In the past, her vulnerability would have endeared her to me, now it just reminded me how complex the mind worked, and in a twisted game of chess, even a knight that got too comfortable can be taken by a pawn.
Karen was a pawn I intended to use, not get taken by. "I will order new clothes for you." I said simply, turning around to leave. She had no business wearing my Ts anymore.
A few minutes later, I was ready for work. I didn't see Karen anywhere, I didn't bother anyway; that pretentious whore could always take care of herself. I walked downstairs; the compound was large, and a good number of cars lined up in the garage.
My men were ready; I eyed my Lamborghini Chiron. The car was too eye-catching and was only a two-seater; it wasn't good for going to the office, only when I wanted to play. But today, today, I wanted to bury myself in work, chanel all the anger that was still burning in my veins into making money, until it turned into something cold and twisted, an emotion I could use perfectly.
"I will drive the Mercedes Benz G class," I said to my driver; he nodded and went to get the car ready. When the car was about to leave the compound, I turned and saw Karen; she was standing in front of the window with deep sorrowful eyes.
Such a traitor; even till now, she still didn't want to let go of her pretense. But that made everything smoother too. I was beginning to look forward to the challenge of breaking her, of cracking through that exterior to what really lay inside.
A few minutes later, the car pulled up at my office building at the head branch of my company. Grey Group of Companies was still climbing, but it was already the tenth highest grossing company in the country. I was grateful for little beginnings. The goal was to hit number one, in the world, not just the country.
"Devon, you are here," Walter, my affairs manager said, as soon as he sighted me. He had a knack for vintage clothing, and was now wearing a weird monstrosity that looked like it came from the 80s. If he wasn't so good at his job, I'd have fired him a long time ago.
" Walter, how are things going in the company?" My voice was cold without emotion. Devon from a year ago might have teased him about his fashion choices, but lately, I had stopped caring about things that didn't make my bank accounts heavier.
"Ever since the information for the new product has been released, things haven't been any much good since we were still battling with the aftermath," he answered, a bit flustered.
"Hehe! Lucas wanted to play, eh? Then he should have been ready to play to hell." Walter merely nodded, looking frightened.
I had to bite back a smile. Being feared had it's disadvantages, for example, I couldn't enjoy banter with my manager. Ignoring Walter, I headed for my office, stopping at the door when he called out.
"Sir, the media had been trying to interview you since yesterday, but we managed to keep them away. My guess was that someone must have already released the information that our products had been stolen."
"Send a message to the bosses of these media companies and tell them I send my regards." He nodded, and there was an irritating trembling at his limbs. What the fuck was wrong with the guy! With all the people working for me for that matter. They all acted as if I could snap my fingers on a whim and have them killed.
I turned the door to my office, ready to face the day, but he interrupted me again. This time, he managed a knowing look on his face, and he was even smiling.
"Before I forgot, boss, I have found a new assistant."
I grunted. I knew very well how to differentiate work from fun. Work was work, and fun was fun. "I don't care how pretty she is, she better have something between her ears, that's all I'm interested in."
The manager paused when he heard me, then nodded, a wry smile on his lips, and was that a blush?
"I will excuse myself now," he said and hurried out. Looking around my office, it was well-kept and clean. I walked to my table and sat down on my seat. I started flipping through the piles of documents on the table when I heard a knock
"Come in," I called with a frown; I always hated to be disturbed whenever I was busy.
The door opened and revealed a very attractively beautiful girl. She was wearing a suit with a very short skirt and had long socks on her very long legs. Her hair waswasn't bundled and freely rested on her shoulders.
She had a kind of haunting vulnerable beauty that seemed only too familiar. I frowned when I saw her smile. She reminded me too of Karen. I had grown wary of females that looked like they couldn't hurt a fly. From my experience, they were the deadliest
I had made the mistake of trusting women like that in the past, but that mistake would not be repeated.
"I am your new assistant, Judith Austin," she introduced. Her voice soft and unassuming. She sounded like one of those Disney princess girls liked to dream about, but this was the real world. I suddenly had the vicious desire to bring her to the ugliness of the real world, to expose the pretentiousness of wannabe Disney princess like she and Karen.
This time I was going to break my rule. It would be fun to see how long it took for the innocence to crack, how long before I could make that body of hers sing for me as she admitted all the things she wanted me to do to her. She and Karen were beginning to look like an interesting conquest.
KAREN'S POV From the window, I watched him leave, having a feeling that he was looking at me. What had I gotten myself into? My very first time was forcefully taken by another man in front of my fiancé, and he didn't even do anything about it. He despised and blamed me instead. Tears had fallen from my eyes. I walked back to the room and sat in front of the mirror; luckily, Stephan was gone, and I was left alone. I decided that I wanted to see my friend Alice and talk to her. I really needed someone to talk to so badly. The phone connected after a few rings. "Hello, Karen, I saw the news today. How could he do it? How dare he kiss his mistress in public during your engagement?" Alice shouted. "Calm down, Alice. I wanted someone to talk to now. Could you please make it to Gregory restaurant in New Heaven?" I said in a low voice. She paused for a while before replying. "Okay, I will be there in thirty minutes." I beamed, "Thank you." I looked around the messy
KAREN' POV "Ladies, I won't stoop to your level. My personal life is none of your concern, and I won't entertain baseless rumors. Have a good day," I said and grabbed Alice's hand, leaving the hotel. Alice was fuming. "You should have allowed me to give her a piece of my mind, Karen," she said. "You can't stoop to their level, Alice. It will only make you look stupid. You can only ignore such people," I tried to talk sense into her, and it worked. "Ok, fine. Let's go home. Come, I brought my car with me. You don't have to take a cab," she said. "Ok, that will be good too," I said and followed her to her car, a Mini Cooper. "She is a fine girl," I commented. "Thank you," she beamed cheerfully. Inside the car, Alice ignited the engine, and we drove off. "So, Karen, are you still going to live in his house, especially after what happened? I think it will be better if you stay in your own house and only visit him from time to time," she suggested.
DEVON'S POV I laughed coldly. "You amuse me with your pretense, Karen. Fine then, I'll leave you since you are not in the mood. So now tell me, 'What do they need this time around?'" I was very sure that she is planning something, which was why she prepared those dishes. The first betrayal is not enough; now she wants another. I looked at her petite figure that was shaking visibly as she tried to say something. "Devon... I... I didn't do anything. I don't know what you are saying. Why did you believe that I ever betrayed you?" She said between sobs. "I don't even want to look at you now. Just get lost, get out of here." I shouted at her. I made for my room to get my car keys and headed downstairs. "Where are you going?" she asked when she saw me going downstairs. "To go and see one of my women, of course," I replied nonchalantly. "You can't do this, Devon. We are engaged now. You aren't supposed to see other women. That's what you promised me be
KAREN I woke up to my phone ringing. It's morning already, and rays of sunlight have already made their way into my room. It was beautiful. I looked at my phone screen and saw that it was my friend Alice. "Hi Karen, my brother is throwing a party this evening. Are you coming?" she asked. "Sure, I will come if you can come pick me," I replied. "Come on, Karen, you know I will be busy," she complained bitterly. I yawned. "That will be your punishment for waking me up this early," I joked. "Fine, the party is at six, and I need to buy something by three. So, I will come and pick you up by three or four this evening. What do you say?" she asked. "Fine by me," I replied. She hung up while I continued lying on my bed. I had decided that I can't continue staying in Devon's house; after all, we are not yet married. Besides, I don't want to meet his lecherous brother for now. I still couldn't forget what he did to me. It haunts me every single day in my dreams.
DEVON "It's not what you think, Devon," she continued desperately trying to explain. "What does it seem like?" I asked in an angry tone. "You called out the man from the party so you two could have fun. And when you saw me from afar, you started acting like a saint. Don't think I can be deceived by such parlor tricks." I yelled at her. "I am not playing any tricks, Devon. Why is it that you never believe anything I say? Why do you always accuse me of being a whore? You're the one who has been whoring around, picking up different girls every day," she accused, yelling at the top of her voice. "What did you just say? How dare you talk to me like that? It seems like I've been soft on you." Without any further warning, I hadn't intended to hit her, but I did, my hand landing firmly on her cheek. She was the first woman I had ever hit, the first to make me angry enough to do so. Many people inside the house were already attracted and started heading to the poolside.
KARENIt had now been two days since the last incident. After experiencing all this, I had decided to investigate and find out the reason Devon hated me. I was determined to find out no matter what. I had also decided to start with his room, then his study. I began with his room, searching his drawers and every corner, yet I didn't find anything sensitive. To cover up my tracks, I did a small cleanup of the whole room. After that, I carefully went to his study room. There are lots of books here, and whatever documents he was looking for are more likely to be found here. "Hmm, not this, neither this," I kept on flipping through many documents. "Why couldn't I find anything useful to prove my innocence? Perhaps, I should search more thoroughly." I started arranging it carefully while rechecking each file. When I was about to keep the last file, the door opened, and Devon came in. "My little traitor, it's a pity that you are caught red-handed this time around," he sai
DEVONI was driving a black SUV, a low profile compared to my other cars. Deep inside, I was seething with rage. I had caught her red-handed yet she refused to admit it and had the nerve to continue pretending she is innocent. This time, I can confirm for sure that she really betrayed me, causing my conviction to be stronger. My SUV pulled up in a parking lot on the edge of the city. I parked it carefully before walking to a house, not a closed restaurant, not far away. Two figures appeared. "Boss, you are here; we have been waiting for you," one of them said. "Has Mr. Lin Song arrived?" I asked while studying the street carefully. "Yes, boss, we had been watching the street carefully; he arrived with three other men that also look Asian. They are inside the restaurant waiting for you," the man replied. "Good, let's go and meet with those Asians and find out what they want," I said coldly. Two men were seated at a round table inside the empty resta
KAREN Today was Monday, and I had finally left Devon's house. Today, I will be opening my own beauty salon after graduating from two years of learning and training at Andrews Beauty Academy, where I trained as a makeup artist. I graduated at the same time as Alice, but she had started earlier than me while I was still focused on my engagement with Devon at that time. Now that I have nothing else going on, I guess it's a good time to continue pursuing my career. I named my salon "Karen Beauty Home," and besides me, there are two artists. I had managed to save a good amount of money from the funds Devon used to give me before we were engaged, so I used it to hire two more artists to help in my salon. I dream of my beauty salon being the most sought after in New York very soon. "Girls, listen, I hired you because I heard you guys are quite good. I don't want to be disappointed, so I hope you do good work. Today we will be doing a promo since this is our first time
