LUCIAN THORNE’S POV

As Caelen stormed out of the study, I watched him from my seat—back rigid, fingers steepled beneath my chin. His eyes had been blazing with fury, pain, confusion. But most of all, betrayal.

That’s what stung the most.

Not his accusations. Not his defiance. But the fact that no matter what I did to protect him, he always saw me as the villain.

The heavy oak door swung shut behind him, his footfalls echoing down the marbled hallway like distant gunshots.

I didn't move.

Ilya stood just outside, his usual stillness laced now with a palpable tension. I could feel it bleeding through the walls.

Moments later, he entered, his broad shoulders filling the doorway. His expression was tight, jaw clenched with remorse and something else—something I couldn’t name yet.

"Lucian," he began, voice deep and hoarse. "I lost control. I'm sorry."

I didn’t look at him. I stared at the swirling black in my glass of whiskey instead. “You laid a hand on him.”

Ilya straightened. “He provoke

  • MY BROTHER-IN-LAW   31. ILYA & ARIA DEPARTURE!

LUCIAN THORNE’S POVThe dining table tonight was unusually full — and unusually loud.To my left sat Caelen, quietly elegant, his long fingers toying with the rim of his glass as if he owned my attention (he did). To my right, unfortunately, sat Caisen, sprawled in his chair like a prince of chaos, smirking at nothing and everything.Across from us, Aria had her daughter Ilina in her lap, the little girl playing with her hair while Ilya sat beside them, his posture perfect, but his eyes flicking to Aria every other second with something soft and unbearably smug. And then, in the middle of the clinking cutlery and quiet murmurs, Aria cleared her throat.“I have something to say,” she began, her voice light but firm.Everyone stilled. Even Caisen raised an eyebrow in faint amusement.I glanced at her. “Go on,” I said, my tone cautious. She exchanged a quick glance with Ilya, who gave her a small nod.“I’ve decided,” she announced, “that I’ll be going to Russia with Ilya. To meet his par

  • MY BROTHER-IN-LAW   30. STAYING IN LOVE

LUCIAN THORNE’S POVI led Caelen down the quiet, marble hall, my hand resting possessively at the small of his back. He was warm under my touch, and every step toward our room felt like shedding another layer of the day’s battles. When we reached the door — our door — I pushed it open with a sense of finality."Your room," I murmured against his ear, leaning in slightly, letting the faintest smirk touch my lips. "No—our room. Properly, this time."He turned to look at me, his silver eyes soft, tired, but still burning with that quiet defiance that always undid me."Our room," he echoed back, his lips twitching into the ghost of a smile.I leaned down, fingers brushing through his hair, and his hands came to rest on my chest, pulling me closer. The world outside faded away, and as his eyelids fluttered shut, I tilted his chin up — ready to kiss him, ready to claim him properly this time. But before our lips could meet —"Falling in love is easy. Staying in love… now that’s the hard par

  • MY BROTHER-IN-LAW   29. CAISEN'S AGENDA?

CAELEN VALENTINE’S POVThe silence hung thick between them — Caisen and Conrad still staring each other down, like predators circling the same wound.Lucian finally moved. His hand slid off my shoulder, and he straightened to his full height, his voice smooth and sharp enough to command the room without needing to raise it."Caisen Valentine," he began, his tone laced with quiet disdain, "my… reluctant guest. Since you’re standing in my home, let me be clear about the people around you — so you don’t make any more mistakes."He gestured at Aria first, who clutched the baby a little closer to her chest."That’s my sister, Aria Thorne. The child in her arms — my nephew."Aria’s swollen eyes didn’t lift to meet Caisen’s. She just adjusted the baby, turning slightly away."The woman beside her," Lucian continued, with a glance toward the quiet maid who stood protectively at Aria’s side, "is her help and companion — she has more loyalty than most of my enemies combined."Then his gaze cut

  • MY BROTHER-IN-LAW   28. WELCOME AGAIN

CAELEN VALENTINE’S POVThe low purr of the Range Rover’s engine was the only sound filling the cabin, aside from the faint hiss of tires eating up the dark, winding road.I was exhausted — not the kind of exhaustion that sleep fixes, but the kind that sits heavy in your chest, gnawing at you from the inside. My head rested against Lucian’s chest, his arm draped securely around me.His fingers threaded through my hair absently, as though soothing me was second nature to him — something he did without even thinking.I felt the occasional brush of his lips against the top of my head, quiet and possessive. The steady rhythm of his breathing and the scent of his cologne — clean, sharp, with a hint of something darker — anchored me.I closed my eyes, letting the hum of the engine and his heartbeat under my ear lull me into something between sleep and waking.Ilya was in the driver’s seat, silent as usual, his sharp grey eyes fixed on the road ahead through the rearview mirror. The faint glo

  • MY BROTHER-IN-LAW   27. I LOVE YOU, CAELEN.

CAELEN VALENTINE’S POVI watched as Caisen glared up at Lucian, his dark eyes sharp with a feral warning.“Remember this, Lucian,” Caisen growled, his voice low and dangerous.“If you ever dare to hurt my brother, I swear — I’ll kill you. Even if I have to crawl back from the depths of hell, I will make you pay for it.”My breath hitched in my throat.Because I knew.He wasn’t bluffing.Caisen would burn the whole world down if it meant keeping me safe. But Lucian… to his credit… met his gaze squarely, unflinching.“I would never hurt Caelen, Caisen,” he said firmly.“I love him — just as much as you do. Maybe more.”Something shifted in Caisen’s eyes then — a fleeting crack in his armor — before he gave the faintest nod, finally seeming to accept Lucian’s words.“Good,” he murmured, his tone softening.“Then we have an understanding.”A quiet relief washed over me, like the first sunlight after a storm.Maybe — just maybe — we could all move forward from here, together.I reached out

  • MY BROTHER-IN-LAW   26. FINAL CHALLENGE

CAELEN VALENTINE’S POVThe next morning, Lucian and I sat down to a lavish breakfast spread in the sun-drenched dining room, trying to steal a rare moment of peace.Fresh fruit, buttery croissants, coffee so strong it could wake the dead — but neither of us really tasted a thing. We knew this calm was just another trick of Caisen’s.Speak of the devil — and he appeared.Caisen entered with that infuriatingly calm, wolfish smile that never reached his eyes, a gleam of mischief flickering in his gaze as he poured himself a cup of black coffee.“Ah, lovebirds,” he drawled, “enjoy your meal. But don’t get too comfortable. The final test is looming. But… for now, I have a small task for you.”Lucian’s eyes narrowed, already on guard.“What task, Caisen? Can’t you just leave us alone?”Caisen smirked faintly, his voice low but laced with mockery.“Oh, no. This one’s going to be… entertaining. You see, Lucian…”He leaned in, almost conspiratorial, and lowered his tone to a whisper.“…I’ve di
