Chapter 8

Luca crovetto

“Fine, I’ll do it!”

She looked up at me, her eyes sunken in helplessness. She looked like she had just rolled out of bed. Her hair was a tangled mess, her eyes had dark circles underneath, her lips dry and cracked.

At least she had managed to change her clothes. But the black hoodie and ripped jeans she wore looked like they had been thrown on hastily.

I was thrilled that she accepted the proposal.

Of course she had no choice,if she had somewhere else to turn to, she wouldn’t be here asking for my help. look at her, so vulnerable. Desperation was written all over her. I was enjoying every bit of the moment. The Satisfaction was evident in my gleaming eyes .

“Excellent choice” I said, my voice low and neutral.

As I started to walk back to my seat, I had been standing , towering over her. her eyes followed every of my movement.

“When Is this ——meeting—- happening ” she queried, her voice cracking slightly. Which made me pause.

I shrugged , glancing through my shoulder to answer her “ I don’t know when the meeting will happen. They will reach out to us when the want. But in the meantime—-“ I broke off briefly to take my seat “ we will need to prepare you for the task ahead.” I continued leaning back into my chair as the leather creaked softly.

She nodded, letting out a ragged breathe “ what exactly do I need to do?”

“ you will learn everything about her mannerism and behavior, you need to be able to answer any question thrown at you. it needs to be extremely convincing that you are her” I replied her, my fingers drummed out a slow deliberate rhythm on the chairs armrest.

Her eyes widened “ but why me? You couldn’t get anyone to do your dirty work!”

I could see the fear and uncertainty lurking behind her eyes .

“It is for a reason, you are —--unknown, a blank slate” my lips curled up slightly with a smile as I said out those words realizing it was the purpose.

That is why I choosed her, could have been anyone else. But she fits perfectly into the plan. No one knows her, her face isn’t common. If would be pretty easy to fool The Consortium into believing she’s actually Sophie.

if played out well by her, there won’t be any lapses and the chances of getting the deal will be certain.

“ what if I get caught” she asked

“ that isn’t what you should be worried about” i replied.

“ let’s get started” I gestured to one of my men who stepped forward with a stack of photos and folders “Everything you need to know is in there. Study it well. We’ll work out the rest”

I watched her as She reached for the folder recluntantly and took out the papers, her brows furrowed in concentration while her eyes scanned through the content inside.

“ Sophie Barralis” she said looking back at me. I gave a slight nod.

“ what makes you think I can pull this off?” She quizzed giving me a skeptical look “I’ve never done something like this in my life, pretending to be someone else”

“ it’s your choice” I replied my eyes still locked on hers. Before she looked away, ruffling the papers giving it a tight squeeze.

“What if it takes —- you know— months” she begins to stutter “ I can’t stay here longer than I’ve planned and my reasons are personal”

“Yes sure” I laughed “ I’ll see to it that you don’t

Stay here for long, so you would catch up with whatever you are not willing to miss over there”

“ Now that we have settled on the details, go gather you things” I instructed

“ I’ve decided you would have to move into the ville, atleast untill our deal is complete. I wouldn’t want you looking malnourished for the deal since you won’t be able to afford feeding yourself.”

She flashed me a quick, exasperating look. Her eyes rolling heavenward in a silent “ Really?” Moment clenching her jaws as if she was biting back a retort.

Exactly what I had expected. I felt a spark of amusement at her reaction. It’s almost …. Entertaining, watching her struggle to keep her emotions in check.

“ Fine” she spat out,her expression changing. I couldn’t help but notice her eyes dropping.

“Vinnie” I called out to one of my men as he hurried towards me.

“ Escort her to her hotel and help her gather her belongings”

with a curt nod, his eyes flicked to her and he gestured her to precede him

She drew back , her eyes darting between me and vinnie

“I don’t need any help” she protested

I scoffed paying no attention to her,

“if we are going to work together , you will have to learn how to follow orders”

I signaled vinnie to go ahead “ make sure she gets everything she needs” I added.

She glared back, she seemed to have realized that arguing was futile. Which a reluctant nod, she turned and followed vinnie out of the room.

I stood up and walked over the window watching them drive off, “ I had so much work to do on her, she was unlike any lady I’d ever met . so tacky, rough around the edges.it was as if she had never learned to present herself to the world and It made me wonder where she’s from.

“ I don’t even know her name” I thought to myself shaking my head in disbelief with the realization that I don’t even know her or recall her full name.

I had objectified her and have seen her only as a person not worth getting to know.

But then again she’s not exactly been forth coming with informations about herself either.

Still, that’s no excuse. I would have asked. But no.

Well, she’s just a means to an end. I shouldn’t bother with trivial things like names and personal histories since I was still going to know.

“I suppose it’s not like it matters now, what matters is getting what I want. Can she convincingly pretend to be Sophie?”

I signed, watching as the car disappeared into the distance.
