The door was still shut.

I had spent the night on the floor across from it. The stone was cold. My mind was not. The storm of feeling was over. Now there was only the quiet. A white, silent space in my head. In that space, there were only facts. Only connections.

I stood up. The dawn light was grey in the hallway. My body was stiff. My thoughts were sharp.

I walked to the operations room. The screens were dark. I sat down.

"Marcos."

"Sir."

"Wake the system. We start over."

The main scree

It was so simple. So human. A jealous sister. A hired fixer. A broken heart. All orchestrated by a man sitting miles away, pulling strings. "You have met with Alexandra before." Marcos made that remark."Then the meeting," I said. "How did I meet Alexandra? A librarian does not meet a CEO by chance." "The library event," Marcos said, pulling up a file. "The Central Library's annual fund-raising gala. Nine months ago. You were the keynote speaker. Alexandra was working the event. She was assigned to assist with the donor materials. But you never introduced yourself, but it wasn't a chance meeting. And Alexandra obviously can't recall ever meeting you before" "A chance meeting. But not a chance. Who made the assignment?" "The head of events that night was a woman named Linda Ferris. Her sister is married to a man who works in the Marchetti-owned hotel's HR department. Linda received a 'donor recommendation bonus' after the gala. The bonus came from a guest fund, not the library." "

I walked to the operations room. The screens were dark. I sat down. "Marcos." "Sir." "Wake the system. We start over." The main screen glowed to life. Blank. "The sample switch was the end," I said. "We read the story backward. We found the fire. The parents. The motive. Good. Now we read it forward. From the moment I met Alexandra." A timeline appeared. A simple line. The first marker: Alexandra Reed Central Library Employee. "Hypothesis," I said. "Carlo Marchetti found his niece. He learned where she worked. Who she knew. He decided to use her to break me. The plan needed someone inside my life." A second marker: Sophia

The cruelty was so precise, so surgical, it took my breath away. This wasn't the Sophia I knew. The Sophia I knew was ambition and sharp edges, but not this patient, psychological butchery. "You're wondering about me," she said, reading the silence. "When did I turn? The truth is, I was never on your side, Liam. Not really. My loyalty was always to the highest bidder. And to the most powerful vision. You offered money. Carlo offered a legacy. A role in rewriting history. You see me as a traitor. I see myself as an artist. The forgery was just the canvas. Your broken heart is a masterpiece." She sighed, a mockery of regret. "You thought you were the player. The CEO. The hunter. But from the very beginning, you were the pawn. Carlo let you think you were chasing him. He let you have your little victories. All the while, he was guiding you right to this moment. To this exact feeling of helpless, total ruin." The screen seemed to pulse with her words. They rearranged the entire world.

The door was shut. It was just a door. Thick, polished wood, set in a stone wall. But it felt like a continent between us. On the other side, the world had ended for Alexandra. In here, in the cool, silent hallway, it had ended for me, too. But my ending was different. Mine was a slow freeze. A locking down of all systems. I stood there for a long time, my hand resting flat against the wood. I could feel the faint, almost imperceptible hum of the security system running through its frame. I was the master of this house, of these systems. I could override the lock with a code from my phone. I could go in. But I didn't. Her silence was a wall more solid than the stone around us. My mind, usually a room full of moving parts and strategic maps, was a still, white space. The future I had seen—the only future I had wanted in years—was in ashes. The blue-shuttered house was gone. The name 'Ella' was a phantom. The feeling of her hand in mine, the plans we whispered, it was all smoke. I w

  • Mafia Boss's stolen sperm   CHAPTER 42

ALEXANDRA'S POVThe strength lasted until the door of my room clicked shut behind me. Then it vanished. The quiet hum of the cliff house, once a sound of security, now felt like the hum of a machine that had processed my life and found it fraudulent. The resolve I'd shown Liam, the cold clarity—it was a performance. A suit of armor pulled over a crumbling body. The adrenaline of discovery, the sharp spike of purpose, it all drained away, leaving behind a cold, hollow, marrow-deep exhaustion. I wasn't a general planning a counter-strike. I was the ruined battlefield. I stood in the middle of the room, and the world did not just tilt. It dissolved. The solidity of the floor, the permanence of the walls all of it seemed like a stage set, a convincing facade hiding an infinite, dark void. Giovanna and Daniel's daughter knows the truth. My own words echoed in the silence, a stark, mocking refrain. But now, in this echoing solitude, they sounded like the greatest lie of all. How could

  • Mafia Boss's stolen sperm   CHAPTER 41

ALEXANDRA’S POV The silence after the truth was a physical thing. It sat in the room with us, heavy as stone. The facts were laid out. I knew who I was. Alexandra Wright. Daughter of Daniel and Giovanna. Stolen child. Living trophy. Knowing it and feeling it were two different things. My mind felt broken into pieces. Each piece held a different lie. The memory of my adoptive parents, not rescuers, but paid caretakers. The ghost of Daniel Wright, my real father—a good man who wrote about truth and got caught in a trap. The woman I now knew was my mother, Giovanna—she had loved a man her brother hated, and it got her killed. And Carlo Marchetti. My uncle. A man who saw me not as family, but as property he needed to get back. I was made of all these broken pieces. None of them fit together. I put my head in my hands. A dry, heaving sob came from somewhere deep inside. It was the sound of my old self dying. Liam watched me. He didn't try to hug me or tell me it would be okay. He just
