ILYA

“I don’t have time, Linden. Just say what you came here for. I’m sure you won’t waste your time just to gawk at me, because the last thing you wanna see is this face.” I point at myself.

He inhales another deep breath and takes his phone, showing me the image that paralyzes me in terror. The sudden jolt in my chest breaks the fear that immobilizes me.

I take the phone from him. I want to make sure the image is not playing tricks on me, or not AI-generated.

The unrelenting grip makes my hand shake.

“Are you fucking with me?” My eyes narrow at him. I shove it back to him. “Do you think I did this? Why would I hurt her?”

I still struggle against my instinct to find a reason why he’s here, and who could do something like this?

Deep within me, my blood is already boiling in my veins. I haven’t felt rage and violence since I put my father to rest, and I’ve kept the monster inside me locked up since then.

“I know you didn’t do it. She’s in a lot of pain. The doctors put her in an induced coma—”

Fuck. “I don’t wanna hear it. You’re wasting your time coming here.” I trudge away with my feet weighing tons, and my legs feel like they’re melting into a puddle.

“I need your help.” His words halt me.

When I turn to him, our eyes lock again. I see a storm of emotions clouding in those deep blue depths— pain, regret, anger, and determination.

“I can’t fucking help you. After what you did to me, I should be the last person you approach. Go home and don’t ever come back, or you will all go home in pieces,” I say through gritted teeth.

“I’m sorry.” He knows me. I don’t just threaten someone. I keep my word and do it.

“No. You’re fucking not.”

“I haven’t found who did it, but I know someone out there is sending me a message, and they’re coming after me, my business, and my family. They started with Willa, who has nothing to do with what I do for a living, Ilya.” He swallows and calls me Ilya instead of Vasilyev. He looks desperate and something else I can’t quite name.

“Not my fucking business anymore.”

“You’re the last person my enemy will cross. Please?”

“No.” I walk away even if he’s still calling my name, following me. “Go back to New York, Linden.”

After three years, he and I sit down in my office. My men and Linden’s men are tense outside. I’m glad Sasha, whom he had encountered in the ring, is still in Russia looking after the business.

All I can do at this moment is look at the images of Willa lying on the hospital bed in an induced coma with bruises all over her beautiful face, her neck, and arms.

I’ve done some terrible things in my life, which can never be forgiven, but I never lay a hand on women.

The anger, chaos, white-hot rage, and chilling fear bottled up inside me disorient and disturb me, calling for blood.

No matter how hard I try to keep myself calm, Linden has been watching me like a hawk, observing me in silence.

When I lift my gaze from the desk where the images spread, I narrow my eyes at him. “Why the fuck did you pull out her bodyguard?”

“That was one of our deals.”

“Deal?” I clench my fists hard as I roar in rage in a deafening bellow. “You’ve been controlling her life for years, and you agreed to pull out the only thing that kept her safe? I thought you cared about her, Linden, and all you wanted was to keep someone like me away from her because I was a notorious, ruthless wanted criminal, and I would do no good for her, and I would only put her life in jeopardy. And look what happened?” I point at the image where there’s a bruise around Willa’s neck.

“I only honored our deal.” He drops his gaze. “And I’ve caused her enough ordeal.”

“Then what the fuck do you want from me?”

“I’m sorry for just dropping by, disrupting your country life—”

“You don’t fucking mean that.”

“I do, and I’m desperate.”

“I still haven’t heard any reason. What the fuck are you doing here, Linden? I stayed away from Willa, your family, your friends, and associates, and I have nothing to do with what happened to her.”

“I know. My people are handling the internal investigation, and I haven’t talked to my sister. She’s in great pain.”

“So what do you want me to do? Find the people responsible for this? Don’t you have unlimited resources to get the job done?”

“I do, but I need your help protecting my sister.”

“Remember what you told me? I’m a wanted criminal. I kill people in cold blood, and you don’t want to taint the squeaky-clean image of the Linden family, the Braddsons, and your precious Osmium by associating your sister with me.” I scoff and cross my arms over my chest. “I’m sorry, but I can help you. You have resources. Use them. Take Willa away somewhere safe where she can heal physically and psychologically. I’m the last person you’d be asking for help, Linden. I’m getting married.”

“What?” I instantly see the shock in his eyes.

“Yes. It’s long overdue. I made a promise to my father before he died, and I’m honoring it. I don’t have time to waste, and it’s been almost two years without incidents in my life, and I’m not planning on creating one before my wedding. And it’s not appropriate to bring Willa into my home, considering our disastrous past.”

He lets out a shuddering breath, nodding glumly. “With the ongoing investigation, I want her away from my own problems. I feel like I failed her again, Vasilyev.”

“You did what you thought was right. Isn’t she dating someone from your circle, the smug billionaire?”

“No.” He looks at me again. “My sister never dated anyone in three years. She’s not comfortable around Perry Rhodes. It creeps her out. I think she still loves you.”

I shoot him a sardonic glance as I stand up. “Well, you made it pretty clear we couldn’t be together. And I’ve moved on. I wish her well and a fast recovery.”

“You don’t mean that.” He stands up as well, red-rimmed eyes staring at me. “I’ll do anything. Just name it.”

I glare at him. “You’re under investigation for associating with organized crime families, and you’re still entrusting your sister with someone like me, whom she has a past with? What the fuck is wrong with you? Are you really trying to protect her? Because it looks to me like you’re trying to torment her.”

WILLA“Oh, my God. It’s really good to hear your voice. I went to see you at the hospital, but you were—”“In an induced coma? Yeah. Cleo, I forgot to thank you.”“I thought—” She starts crying on the other line. “I’m so glad I didn’t go home. I stopped at your favorite sushi restaurant because I knew you’d be at the studio for a while. Willa, I wish I could be there sooner, but the traffic was heavy.”“It’s fine, Cleo. Thank you so much. I owe you.”“You don’t owe me anything. I’m just happy you’re okay. Anyway, I’m surprised to see your brother at the gallery. He said I should keep it open and I should not talk about what happened to anybody. I don’t mean to pry about your family issue, but what’s going on?”“You know I want nothing to do with his company, especially after what happened with me and—”“And the Russian hot guy.”I chuckle. “Yeah. Gabe doesn’t share much, but we both know his company is going through rough times, and he doesn’t want you to tell anybody for your own saf

ILYAI hate it when someone barges into my office, interrupting me when I’m working.Right now, I’m cursing at Natalie. “Did British not teach you how to knock?”“Right.” She rolls her eyes before glaring at me. “Why the hell didn’t you tell me that you and her are living under the same roof?”“What the fuck are you talking about?”“This.” She puts the ring on my desk. “What did you do to her, Ilya?”I look at the Vasilyev ring I gave to Willa years ago. There’s nothing special about it at first glance, but a platinum band with a wolf and a letter V signet that has been passed down through generations. It’s a family heirloom that I entrusted to Willa because I thought she would be my wife. The symbol of the wolf means loyalty and deep family bonds. That’s why my men sometimes call me Russkiy volk.“Unfuckingbelievable. First, you barged in, and now you’re accusing me of beating her.” I cross my arms over my chest, glaring back at her. “You think so low of me, Natalie. And no, I didn’t

WILLAI’m so stupid.Of course, he still hates me. Well, he will loathe me if he finds out I’ve been keeping a three-year-old secret from him.I never got the chance to apologize to him for what I did. And he was right. If he wanted me dead, I could be dead. But he wants to watch me suffer, and I know his kind; he doesn’t take betrayal lightly, and he definitely holds grudges. One of these days, I’d be paying the consequences of my actions, if I haven’t already done so. The anger and pain in his eyes are too deep to fade— and too late to ask for forgiveness. But what hurts me the most is finding out he’s getting married. It’s easy for him to move on because he’s not only charming and attractive for the mafia, he’s also filthy rich and powerful, and women would fall on their feet to marry him.I just make it to the elevator. The door slides open, and the blonde woman, his fiancée, is inside. She must have recognized me. I see the look in her eyes as she looks at me. She must be mocking

ILYA“What the fuck are you doing here, Natalie?” I growl in anger.Instead of answering me, she kisses me to shut me up. I let her. I don’t want to argue because I’d been ignoring her calls while she was in New York, handling matters.Natalie is one of my lawyers. She’s good at what she does. We hooked up once in a while, and she’s a good lay, too, but she knows there’s no us and there will never be us. And she’s okay with it. No complications. No emotional entanglements.I barely slept last night with another sexual dream, fucking Wila in the barn, while fully aware that she was just sleeping across the hallway. But I’m still hurt, and I do hold grudges.I haven’t forgiven myself for believing that we could be together despite who her brother was to me.When Natalie starts touching me and going down on her knees to suck me, I fuck her in the barn, and she’s too willing, too eager to roll in the hay, literally and figuratively.Once she has her orgasm, and I come, I take off the cond

WILLAGabe left in the afternoon. I don’t have the strength to argue. I can’t run away this time. I guess I would be stuck with Ilya for weeks or so.Gabe’s reason makes sense, but I feel like he has an agenda. He hates Ilya. He made it pretty clear when he threatened to kill him three years ago.He didn’t just take me to the angry, raging, resentful, and vengeful lion to be a pawn, but to be mauled. He’s also using me, and I don’t know what for. And I will find it out.Since Ilya left the room, I haven’t seen him again. He doesn’t visit me or say hi, but I expect nothing less from him. I betrayed him after all.Gabe might have paid him a huge amount of money to take me in. Otherwise, there’s no way he’d do this out of the goodness of his heart.I can see in his eyes how much he hates me and hasn’t forgiven me.After what happened in Las Vegas, I promised Gabe not to contact Ilya again if he left him alone. I did try to find him, but he didn’t want to be found.Seeing him again after

  • Mafia's Redemption: ILYA   Chapter 5

WILLAI thought I died until I became aware of the hammering headache, so severe that it was worse than the worst hangover I had when I drank to stupor after finding out my ex had been cheating on me. My throbbing skull feels like it’s splitting into pieces.I don’t know how long it has been, but the first thing I hear is the rhythmic beeping sound echoing in the room.As my mind clears, I try to crack my eyes open. I realize they’re too heavy, like I just stepped into the swarm of bees. Then I feel the large, warm hands softly squeezing mine.“Honey?” It’s Dad. One word filled with worry is all it takes for that assault to flash in my head.A gasp escapes my lips as tears roll down my cheeks. “D-Dad?”“Hey.” I feel the bed being adjusted, and my back feels like one giant bruise. He kisses my forehead and says, “You’re gonna be okay.”“Dad.” My throat hurts. My voice is hoarse. I try to say something, but my lips are dry, split, and swollen.I can barely see him through my busted eyes
