The view was beautiful, or at least from what she saw before she closed her eyes. Christa was lying on the pool chair, sunbathing. She wore a bikini and sunglasses. Beside her on the side table were some mini sandwiches that she reached for periodically and munched on delicately. The sun sparkled on the pool water giving it an ethereal look.

“Ahh.” She sighed satisfactorily, “This is the life.”

Her bruises were healed and she was back to being her fabulous self.

The sound of footsteps approaching drew her attention. She took off her glasses and, sitting up on her arms, she squinted in the direction from which it was coming. A familiar figure was approaching her.

“There you are.” It was Logan.

She sighed quietly, guessing that her time was over now, she thought to herself.

She lay back down and wore her glasses, “ yep, here I am.” She responded with false enthusiasm.

It wasn’t that she disliked Logan, she was just very much tired of him. They’d been here for two weeks now, and during t

CHAPTER 48Marybeth was back at the Angelo house, in her room. She had hurried into the building, startling the staff, as they had not seen their boss act so weirdly; she was usually so calm and composed. She had run up into her room, bolted the door, and entered the bathroom. Her face was flushed red with embarrassment. She turned up the tap, splashing some water on her face. What the heck was that interaction? How did he turn the whole conversation in his favor? She had started the day in control; she'd left Logan stunned, and now his uncle had left her stunned. Now that she had calmed down somewhat, she was left to decide. She didn't know how she felt about involving herself with Cassian. She'd just gotten rid of his nephew, she didn’t want to be involved with another man so soon. Perhaps there was a way for her to reach a compromise with him.His words echoed in her head, he wanted her to be his wife in every way, that meant he wanted her in that way. She couldn't even comprehend

sure you can.” He waved his hands, couI’mghing a bit, “I was just surprised that’s all.” Then he stared at her intently.Marybeth leaned back worriedly, “What is it? Is there something on my face?”“No, it’s just, now that I look closely I can see the resemblance. I just find it hard to believe you’re the younger sister of that menace.” He grumbled.“Menace? My brother?” She chuckled, “Wayne is a sweetheart.”He shook his head in disbelief, “A sweetheart? Are you sure we are talking about the same person? Your brother is called the Shark. And it is not a term of endearment. I have lost lots of deals to him, heck I hardly ever see him coming”She laughed, pride evident in her eyes, “Yes, well he was raised by the best.”“That is true. Heck I think the only reason your family is dominating the business world is that they don’t want to.” He acknowledged.“Yes, I suppose you’re right.” She agreed.“So, about what you said before.” He steered the conversation back, “Marriage huh.”“Yes, m

The restaurant wasn't as crowded as it looked, a few people were scattered about, tapping away at their phones whilst absentmindedly scrolling on their phones. The both of them sat opposite each other, thumbs twiddling as they waited for their meals to arrive.“So,” Cassian began, “You were saying something about me helping you destroy the Renfrys?”“Oh,” She blinked, “Yes, that’s right. I desire the downfall of the Renfrys. They treated me and my son like trash and now, I want them to pay. And what better way to do that than by getting one of their own to help me with it?”“Well, first of all, I am not one of their own,” Cassian corrected, “we both know they never once considered me as one of them and second what makes you think I care about my time with them enough to help you take them down?”“You said so yourself, they never considered you as one of them.” She paused,”I don’t know your full story, what your childhood was like but I spent enough time watching their interactions wit

Logan paced the living room, his shoulders hunched in anger as his hands angrily dialed Marybeth’s number over and over. Christa was on the couch, watching him with a satisfied look on her face. She held the papers in her hand but she had not gone through them.“Who the FUCK does she think she is?!” He yelled, voice echoing through the room.“Oh, calm down already,” Christa rolled her eyes. “So what if she divorces you? Who cares? Wasn’t this what you wanted anyway? To be free of her so we can be together?” She asked, eyes wide with veiled anger and obvious agitation.“You don’t seem to get it, “He turned to her, “I am Logan Renfry, the Logan Renfry of the Renfrys, and I am the only one who gets to choose when things are over between us, me! not them or her!” He yelled.“Stop yelling! Why are you telling? There’s no need to yell at me, we’re the only ones here! Gosh.” She huffed in anger and turned her head away in a pout.Logan realized that he had better quickly console this one be

The room was in a stunned silence, save for Christa who was pleased. Logan moved to chase after her, but Christa rushed to him and grabbed him by his arm, effectively holding him back. Cassian barely spared them a glance before he moved, his feet rushing after her, desperately wishing that the conclusion he had gotten was not true.“Marybeth!” He called after her once he reached the steps of the house's entrance. She looked up, about to enter her car, “Cassian? Did you need something?”He stood there startled, he did not know what to do next now that he had her attention. It wasn’t like he could say he wanted to ask about the death of her son, so he improvised, “I was wondering if you could drop me off?”“Drop you off?” Her face scrunched in confusion, “Don’t you have a chauffeur and a car?”“Oh, yes but he has to run a pressing errand for me.” He quickly responded.“Oh? How were you planning on getting back then, if I hadn't shown up?” “I was going to wait. But I don't think my pre

The next day was quick to arrive and after a quick breakfast, Cassian was quick to head into his car and drive to Logan’s place.“M-master Cassian.” Vincent stuttered at the sight of him.“Yes, it is me,” Cassian responded. They stood there for a while, Cassian outside watching Vincent who was starting to shake with trepidation. “Are you going to let me in or not?” He asked.“Right. Apologies master.” Vincent responded with a bow, opened the door, and moved to the side to allow him to pass through. He looked around him in disdain, the unnecessary display of wealth the Renfrys enjoyed doing was something that never failed to disgust him. Honestly, no one needed a solid gold picture frame. He made his way deeper into the house, his steps echoing in the halls. He went past the living room and soon he arrived at the dining room, where he saw the sight of Logan and a blonde woman who giggled every time Logan stretched his fork to serve her. Nothing was that funny.“I never thought you’d b
