Polly would never have imagined her mate would be anyone unordinary. She’s a simple girl. Her strength and skills are average at most. She’s not even very good with fighting. Her evaluation results fluctuate from month to month. She can’t seem to create consistent wins. Or at least, a two-to-one ratio of wins and losses. She rarely achieves winning all three.
She was early today, preparing some equipment for their training. She felt a little different, like something’s about to change in her life. She couldn’t place it, what it was, until that moment.
She stood up after stacking the equipment in one corner and deeply exhaled. It was a little tiring. She froze upon feeling a presence from behind her and her heart raced when a unique scent registered in her senses. No way . . .
It’s not what she thought it was, right? She lowered her head and placed her hands over her heart. Was she ready to meet her mate? She thought of Ren, the guy she liked. Would she be able to let go of her feelings? Won’t it be unfair to be with her mate when she still has feelings for someone else? What is she to do?
She took another deep breath. One thing at a time. Let’s meet him first and decide what to do later. The bond might help her move on if he’s going to be someone she can easily like.
Polly could hear his footsteps, getting closer, and she took a moment to ready herself. She slowly turned around and lifted up her gaze. He’s tall but when she saw his face, her eyes widened in fear. Oh, no! Why him?
She recognized him as the guy who tried to mark Sab ages ago. She was with her at the time and she witnessed that incident. She knew who he is, an Alpha’s son. She knew how strong he was. He fought all her male co-trainees and they didn’t succeed against him. The disparity was great and it opened their eyes to how much they still lack and how much they still need to improve. She began to shake her head, taking a step back and softly uttering a short “No.”
Jared’s expression darkened. He saw how she looked afraid of him, her retreat, the slight shake of her head . . . and he clearly heard her say no. He lightly growled. Somehow, he understood she planned to reject him. She won’t accept him. And he can’t accept that. He must have her! He must have her mate!
He’s not sure why she’s afraid of him. Does she know him? He’s sure this is the first time he laid eyes on her. She’s clearly young and very pretty. From the look of things, she’s a resident of Snow Mountain. He grimaced. That must be it. Members of Snow Mountain must have known his actions from last year.
He rushed towards her, reaching out and trapping her in his arms. Polly struggled but he’s really strong. He didn’t budge nor batted an eyelid. She couldn’t think of a way to escape him. Should she yell for help?
“Don’t. Please, stop. Let me go.” She tried to beg him, but Jared merely stared at her for a second before lowering his head. He sank his fangs against the fair skin of her neck. Polly winced in pain before pleasure hit her. Her mind went blank when he began to suck and consume her blood. She lightly moaned and trembled in his arms, her body weakening. Jared held her tightly as he enjoyed the taste of her. He wanted to do more. He wanted to mate with her.
Polly was panicking inside. He marked her! What’s going to happen now? She doesn’t want him. How would this affect her future? It’s unheard of. At least, that’s what she knew. She doesn’t know anyone who has been marked without their consent.
She almost fainted from the fear enveloping her being.
It was Ren, along with Quinn, who found them first.
“What the fuck?” Quinn rarely curses, but the scene they saw was enough to anger him immediately. Why is it always this guy? He quickly recognized him. The two of them rushed over and tried to take Polly away from him.
As the approached, Jared looked up and gently licked the wound he made on the woman’s neck. He growled in annoyance. Why are these people bothering them?
“What have you done to her? Polly?” Ren demanded while trying to see Polly’s condition.
“Fuck off! Take your eyes off my mate.” He’s losing control again, the bond hijacking all of his being. His senses, his actions, and his thoughts.
“No, shit.” Quinn muttered as they paused to assess the situation. How are they going to take her away? Ren’s expression darkened. They both wanted to know how much they improved in the last year since they faced this guy. They’ve been toyed with back then, unable to even hit him.
“I’m telling Cleo to get help.” Quinn quickly decided and used his link with his mate.
What the heck? Cleo was momentarily surprised before rushing out of their home and into the pack house. She needs to tell their Alpha.
She sprinted as fast as she could and when she neared the place she yelled to ask where the alpha was.
“What’s going on?” Someone frowned at her actions.
“It’s Polly. She’s . . . I don’t know? Attacked? That guy is at it again.” She sounded urgent and someone quickly called for Clyde.
“What guy? What happened to Polly?” Another asked.
“That Jared guy, from Blood Moon.” She sounded helpless and was relieved when Clyde and some of his men showed up.
“What’s going on?”
“Quick, alpha! In the training grounds. That guy marked Polly! Quinn and Ren are there already.”
“Who?”
“Jared, from Blood Moon!”
Just hearing that name, Clyde knew it’s trouble. He turned to the side and instructed one of the men.
“Go and find Alpha Wade. Tell him what’s happening and bring him to the training grounds.”
His father, the former Alpha, showed up with a grimace and they all went to rescue Polly. Who would have thought? That guy seemed like a menace.
When Wade heard about it, he was extremely distressed. What was that idiot doing? They’re not in their territory. He should conduct himself well. He sighed deeply before following the others. Along the way, his men have already discussed how to restrain him. He may be strong, but he’s no match against five or six seasoned warriors from their pack.
It was chaotic. The man acted like a beast. Wade has never seen him act like it. He’s being territorial with the woman, not letting anyone approach them. He warned them away and would swipe his arms whenever anyone gets too close.
Wade’s men slowly moved into position, but they can’t be sure how Jared would react. Surely, he won’t hurt the woman. Right? They hoped so.
Clyde instructed his own men to prepare for it. They’re to protect those who came to watch. There’s not many but they could still get hurt. Why must they come simply to gossip?
Sab also showed up and stood next to Clyde. Her expression was dark. Polly seemed helpless. She’s worried for her.
At Wade’s signal, several men attacked Jared, forcing him to let go of Polly and face them. One got smacked in the face before three of them caught his limbs to immobilize him. It wasn’t easy. They got hit, but those were comparably weaker than Jared’s usual. Clyde instructed a few others to assist in restraining the guy.
Lucas, Snow Mountain’s pack doctor, stepped forward with a potion and forced him to smell it. Jared lost consciousness after a minute or so. Most of them sighed in relief.
“Tie him up. Guard him. Don’t let him loose.” Wade grimly ordered before facing Clyde and Conrad.
After the man has been dragged away, Sab and Cleo stepped forward to check on Polly.“Oh, no . . .” Cleo lamented as they sat her up and Polly whimpered in pain. Her hand reached for her neck and felt the wound in there.“We’ll take you to the infirmary.” Sab decided and Quinn helped them to carry her.“You don’t look beat up this time.” Cleo noted, making him roll his eyes.“We didn’t get to fight. He wouldn’t leave her so we just kept trying to approach them.”Sab was relieved no one else was hurt. She remembered how badly they did before.“I’ll go and speak with Alpha Wade. You all take care of her.” Clyde informed his mate before leaving with his father. He’s still considered new to being Alpha and his father would advise him from time to time, guiding him and giving feedback. As they left, Clyde exchanged a look with his father.“He needs to be punished for this. Would Alpha Wade agree?”Conrad grimaced. The situation is tricky but they can’t give special treatment. They would ha
When Polly woke up, it was already dark outside. She saw her mother’s unimpressed look and her heart sank. She didn’t like her nagging.“How are you feeling?” Her mom’s tone wasn’t even comforting. It sounded reprimanding instead. Her hand automatically reached for her neck and she began to tear up.The older woman sighed, “Alpha wants to speak with you. Should I inform him? Can you talk to him in your current condition?”Polly sniffed, “I’m fine. I can talk to him.”“Alright. I’ll get you food, then I’ll go find him. You must be hungry.”She almost smiled. Her mom has an odd way of showing she cares. They’re not exactly close but she’s still their only child. She’s a bit of a rebel, doing what she wants and not listening to everything her parents want for her. Other than that, she’s quite obedient.Sab was the first to show up while she’s finishing a bowl of meaty porridge.“I’ve been meaning to visit you. It’s good that you’re awake now. How are you feeling?” Their Luna sat near h
“I would say that’s a good idea. You’ll be assured that he won’t be able to do anything inappropriate against you.” Sab spoke when the others didn’t.Clyde stared at the older man, who seemed to be contemplating for quite a while now.“Let Jared stay here for a while. It’s the least he can do. If they decide to move forward with their relationship, Polly is going to move into your pack. A short period of staying here is nothing compared to spending the rest of her life there, a place completely unknown to her.” He voiced out his suggestion, backing her thought.Polly sighed in relief; thankful they understood what she wanted to happen.Alpha Wade grimaced before quickly changing his expression. He looked very serious. “Consider it done. I’ll have him stay here for a while.”He’s beginning to lose hope that Jared would still change for the better. With him temporarily gone from Blood Moon, he can reorganize his pack and give more responsibilities to James. See if the people would prefe
“One month, Jared.”“No!” He couldn’t accept it. What is he do for a month in this place? He felt unsettled, thinking how he would have to let go of his usual duties. He likes being in control and knowing everything that occurs in the pack. He enjoys ordering people around and enforcing the rules he had set. He likes to be organized and chaotic at the same time. Seeing his men scramble to get things done fuel him with a desire to continue down that path. He likes fighting, proving to everyone that he’s the strongest man in Blood Moon. Anyone who dared to question him before were all beaten down and forced to submit to his authority. He has set the standards and made them train harder. He’d seen the progress and how each man has gotten stronger. He would take the credit and say it’s because of him. He did well and he’s proud of that. All the other issues in the pack, he deliberately ignored them. To him, they were irrelevant.“You will. I’ll give you time to adjust your mindset. You’ll
His expression remained cold and unyielding. He was escorted into the conference room. He was the first to arrive and he waited half an hour before two men entered the room. Clyde’s lip twitched. Jared didn’t even stand to greet them, not even a nod or a hello. Polly’s father pursed his lips in annoyance. He doesn’t like the demeanor of this bastard. He’s clearly a proud one and most likely arrogant. Clyde cleared his throat before taking a seat, “This is Patrick, Polly’s dad. Patrick, this is Jared, Alpha Wade’s eldest son.” Jared’s not sure what to say. He squinted before nodding in acknowledgement. Clyde could only sigh. Man, they’re expecting the guy to immediately apologize for what he did, but here we are . . . the man has no words to say and he doesn’t look sorry at all. A couple more minutes of silence ensued before Patrick huffed in disbelief. He let out a short laugh in a mocking tone. Jared didn’t like the sound of that. “Come on, Jared. What do you have to say?” Clyde
Jared pursed his lips. Well, that’s a lot to think about. He would admit he hasn’t looked at it that way. When he brings her to Blood Moon, he expects her to act like the rest of them. Yes, maybe what a traditional woman does at home. But then again, she’s supposed to be his Luna. She can do whatever she wants. If there’s anything she wants to get involved in, she has the freedom to do it.He scrunched up his face and Clyde was somewhat glad to see the changes in his expression. They sat there in silence, considering their options. Now that the conference is over and the guests have left, the news of what he did has slowly spread within their pack. Understandably, most, if not all, are angry at him. Clyde wondered if Jared would be safe if he walks outside all alone. Well, he should be strong enough to take down his opponents. Personally, he would be glad if someone could punch the bastard squarely in the face. He smirked at the thought.Half an hour passed. He thought that was enough
Clyde went to meet Alpha Wade afterwards. Jared returned to his new place while Patrick went back to work.“He didn’t try to kill the man, did he?” Wade asked as soon as he saw the younger alpha. His lip twitched. He really thought that? “You made me curious. What’s the worst scenario you anticipated?”Wade shrugged, “I suppose I expected him to assert his dominance. Challenge him into a fight or something. Beat him up and take the man’s daughter forcibly. But then again, this is Snow Mountain. He can’t do such a thing without serious repercussions. But I don’t know. He can be unpredictable at times. He would have no regard for rules. He already did, didn’t he?”“When are you leaving?” Clyde noticed that he has packed his luggage already.“In a few hours. I’ll be leaving two of my men to watch over Jared. They’re no match to him, though. They&rsquo
The area was residential and most people are still on their duties, so no one noticed him looking in. He could hear someone else is in the house, though. Maybe her mother. When he began to see other people, he decided to leave. He’s not sure if he wanted to see her father this soon. Tomorrow, he’ll see her again. His lip twitched when he felt an irritation inside him. He’s feeling impatient again, wanting to be with her sooner. He audibly exhaled while walking away. He doesn’t want to go back to that tiny place yet so he redirected his steps and continued moving. Soon, he found himself facing the lake. His whole demeanor relaxed at seeing the calm surface, the mountains beyond being reflected on it. It was undoubtedly a great view. When it began to turn dark, he decided to go. He wondered where he’ll get his food. He has money. Plenty of it. Surely, they sell food within the territory, right? He went to find Clyde, ironically the person he
