Chapter 2

Tiptik
I was their biological daughter, while Lily was the one they had adopted.

But in my parents' eyes, it always seemed like Lily was the real daughter.

I looked down in disappointment. "I'll do it."

Everyone in the living room froze.

The smile on Lily's face stiffened for a moment. It then turned sarcastic. "Florence, are you sure? Have you really thought it through? That man is a lunatic. On a full moon night, he could bite you and kill you."

I met her gaze. "Wouldn't that be exactly what you wanted? Aren't you pleased?"

Lily bit her lip and said nothing.

Mary grabbed my hand. "Florence, think carefully."

"I have." I pulled away. "But I have one condition."

"What is it?"

"Lily has to publicly admit that she sabotaged me during the hunting contest. She needs to apologize to me."

"Have you lost your mind?" Ben slammed his fists against the table. "You're trying to ruin your sister!"

"Sister?"

I laughed. "When she gave me wolfsbane, did she consider the fact that I was her sister?"

Lily's eyes immediately welled up with tears. She threw herself into Mary's arms. "Mom, I didn't mean to do it! I didn't know it was wolfsbane. How can Florence accuse me like this? I'm so hurt."

Mary hugged her tightly. She seemed heartbroken. Then she glared at me. "Florence! Lily is still young and doesn't know better. Can't you just bear with her a little?"

"Bear with her?" I looked at Mary. "Haven't I done that my entire life?"

The living room fell silent for a few seconds.

Ben sighed. "Fine. We'll do it your way. But Lily can't apologize publicly. She can only do it at home. Just a few of us knowing is enough."

I looked at them and suddenly felt there was nothing left to say.

"Do whatever you want."

When I walked out of the living room, I ran into Edmund in the hallway.

He had just come out of Lily's room. His bathrobe hung loosely on his body, and his chest was covered with fresh scratch marks. The scent of roses on him was so strong it was almost suffocating.

When he saw me, he froze for a moment. He then frowned. "Are you really going to marry that lunatic?"

I tried to walk past him, but he grabbed my wrist.

"Florence! I know you're upset, but Lily is an Omega. She's fragile and can't handle stress. If I hadn't marked her, the Norfolk Pack wouldn't have let her go."

I shook his hand off and looked him straight in the eyes. "What about me?"

He froze.

"Edmund, we were engaged for seven years. In those seven years, every time we planned to complete the marking ceremony, Lily would cry and throw a tantrum, and you'd leave me behind to run to her."

I stared into his eyes. "When I needed you, you were celebrating her birthday with her. When I had a high fever, you took her to the prairie for stargazing. On my birthday–"

"Florence, that's enough!"

He cut me off. He looked embarrassed. "I know I've wronged you, but now isn't the time to dig up the past. I've already marked Lily. That's the reality.

"Haven't you always said you loved me?" His voice softened as he took my hand. "Florence, I can't bear to watch you get marked by that lunatic. How about this? Be my mistress instead. You can move into the Brock family as my mistress. You won't have to be marked by anyone else."

I froze.

He continued speaking. "Don't worry. Even though you won't have Luna's title, once you're in the Brock family, I'll have the maids take care of you. You'll live just like Lily–"

I suddenly yanked my hand back and slapped him across the face.

Edmund clutched his cheek and stared at me in shock.

"Edmund," I said, word by word. "Even if I die, I'll never be your mistress."

His expression instantly turned dark. "Florence! Don't be so ungrateful! Do you think that lunatic will treat you well? If you get marked by him, he'll bite you to death!"

I turned around and walked away.

I could hear his furious shouts from behind. "You'll regret this!"

I locked myself in my room and sat by the window in a daze.

I had known Edmund for seventeen years. We were engaged for seven years.

When we were children, he had once been the big brother who protected me. He never allowed anyone to bully me.

It wasn't until Lily appeared.

Just because she was a fragile Omega, everything had to revolve around her.

I still remembered that night when he came to see me. He was hesitant.

"Florence, Lily was just adopted by your parents. Her emotions are unstable. I need to take care of her a little longer."

I never had the right to refuse.

Later, Lily replaced me. Everyone liked her.

When Lily was in a bad mood, Edmund would send her roses.

When Lily wanted to go stargazing, he would transform into a giant silver wolf, carry her on his back, and run 185 miles to the grasslands in the northern territory.

That same night, I had a high fever and lay at home alone. I couldn't even get myself a glass of cold water.

At that moment, I suddenly realized how dumb I had been.

Edmund survived. After Lily was arrested by the enforcement squad, she was exiled from the pack.Once Edmund recovered, he went to see Lily one last time. No one knew what they talked about. All anyone knew was that after that meeting, Edmund became even more quiet and withdrawn.Three years later, Leon and I had two pups. Our daughter was a rare silver wolf, and our son took after him, a black wolf.During those years, my parents came to see me countless times. They kneeled outside the gates of the manor, crying and begging for my forgiveness. They said they had been foolish to believe Lily back then. They brought gifts they had never given me before, along with property deeds and stock transfers. It was almost everything they owned.I never once saw them.Later, Leon asked me, "Are you sure you don't want to see them? They are your parents after all."I looked out the window and answered calmly, "When they're old, I'll take care of them. But right now, I don't want to see th

After the banquet, life became peaceful again, but the calm didn't last long. One day, Leon and I were having coffee in the garden when the maid came running over in a panic."Luna! Something happened outside!"I stood up. "What happened?""Edmund and Lily were arguing on the road. They started pushing each other and there was an accident. Lily lost her pup!"I froze. Was Lily with pup? When did that happen?I later found out that after Edmund brought Lily back to the Brock family's house, the two of them argued every day.Lily was with pup, and Edmund still hated her to the bone. The two of them tortured each other constantly. One day on the road, they started fighting again.Lily shoved him. He lost his balance, and in the heat of the moment he shoved her back hard. Lily fell, and she lost the pup..The Brock family had only accepted her because of the pup.Once the pup was gone, they immediately kicked her out.I thought that was the end of it.It wasn't until the day

The peaceful days didn't last long. The annual Werewolf Festival of the Norfolk Pack arrived, and as Alpha, Leon had to attend.I didn't really want to go, but he said he wanted me there with him.The banquet hall was filled with clinking glasses and lively chatter. Everyone there was someone important within the pack.Leon was deep in conversation with a few elders, so I wandered over to the dessert table to grab some cake.I had just picked up a piece of tiramisu when a familiar voice came from behind me."Florence."I set down my fork and turned around.Edmund stood in front of me.He was wearing a suit and tie, and he looked a little more put together than before. However, the dark circles under his eyes and the gauntness of his cheeks still betrayed how badly he'd been doing lately."Long time no see," he said.I looked at him without replying. He stepped closer and lowered his voice. "Florence, I need to talk to you. It's important.""What is it?"He glanced in Leo

The healer arrived in time and managed to rescue Edmund. After he recovered, he stopped kneeling outside the manor. Instead, he switched tactics. He started showing up wherever I went. When I went to a cafe, he sat quietly in the corner watching me.When I went to a bookstore, he stood outside the entrance waiting. When I went hunting, he would 'coincidentally' run into me in the forest while holding a carefully wrapped bouquet of artificial flowers."Florence," he said with a smile before handing them to me. "I know you're allergic to pollen. These are artificial flowers. You won't have an allergic reaction."I looked at him and felt this was getting absurd."Edmund, you don't need to do this.""I'm not doing anything," he insisted stubbornly while still holding the flowers out. "I just want to treat you well."Leon appeared behind me at some point, took the bouquet from Edmund, and casually tossed it into a nearby trash can."Alright. You can leave now."Edmund's expressi

Edmund still hadn't given up.Every single day after that, he showed up at the gates of the manor right on time.Sometimes he brought flowers, and other times gifts. Sometimes, he simply knelt there without saying a word.Eventually, I couldn't stand it anymore, so I went out to see him.The moment he saw me step outside, his entire face lit up. He staggered to his feet."Florence!"He ran forward and grabbed my hand. "Florence, you finally came to see me!"I pulled away. "What do you want?"He quickly withdrew his hand."Florence, look!" he said eagerly. "I've already dissolved the mate bond with Lily! We can be together again!"I froze. When I didn't say anything, he must have thought I was wavering. He quickly dug into his coat and pulled out a small ring.It was the one I had thrown into the trash."Florence, this is the ring you threw away. I found it!" He exclaimed with tears in his eyes."Please forgive me, okay? I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you–"

The truth was, Leon really was a little crazy.Afterward, I lay sprawled across the bed. My entire body was sore. He wrapped an arm around me from behind, and his fingers gently traced along my arm."What are you thinking about?" he asked.I turned and shot him an annoyed glare. "I'm wondering who started those ridiculous rumors about you."He chuckled softly and pulled me closer."I did."I froze."What?"His chin rested in the hollow of my shoulder. His tone was casual. "My parents were pushing me nonstop to find a mate, so I figured I'd spread a few rumors. I told people I went insane on full moon nights and bit people. I said a witch cursed me, and that I'd kill my own mate.""Did they stop pressuring you then?""They pressured me even harder." He laughed. "But the more outrageous the rumors became, the fewer shewolves wanted to become my mate. That meant I could keep protecting you."I fell silent. It had been seven years. He had protected me for seven years."What
