Chapter 3

Tiptik
Late at night, a maid knocked on my door and brought in a box.

"Miss, something else arrived from Norfolk Pack."

I took it and opened the lid. I froze.

Inside was a 60-carat pink diamond, the grand finale piece from the last auction. I had watched it being sold for 7.2 million to a mysterious buyer.

Back then, I wondered who could afford something like that.

I never expected the buyer to be Leon.

There was also a card inside the box. Only one sentence was written on it.

[In three days, I will come to take you with me.]

The handwriting was bold and forceful. It carried an unquestionable authority.

I held the card in my hand, and a strange feeling filled me.

It wasn't fear or disgust. It was something more like curiosity.

He was rumored to be a brutal, ugly, and crazy werewolf who bit others on a full moon night. I wonder what he'd be like.

The next day, I went to a jewelry store to pick out a return gift.

Leon had a black wolf. People said his eyes were dark emerald.

So I chose a pair of emerald cufflinks that had the exact same shade as his eyes.

I had just finished paying when I heard a familiar voice behind me.

"Well, well. Florence, who are you buying a gift for?"

Lily walked in with Edmund. Her arm was wrapped around his.

When she saw the cufflinks in my hand, her eyes lit up.

"Wow, those are beautiful! Edmund, look! Florence bought you a birthday present!"

Edmund was stunned for a moment. He looked at me.

Only then did I remember that today was his birthday.

Lily leaned closer to me and said, "Florence, you're so funny. You said you didn't want to be Edmund's mistress, but you secretly prepared a gift for him anyway. I could never learn such clever schemes!"

Edmund's expression softened a little. He walked over and picked up the cufflinks to examine them. Then he frowned. "Why are they green? I don't like this color. Go exchange them for silver ones."

I took the cufflinks back and put them in my purse. "These aren't for you."

His expression froze.

Lily laughed. "Oh come on, Florence. Don't be stubborn! Who else would you buy such an expensive gift for? Don't tell me it's for that lunatic."

I ignored her and walked out.

Edmund hurried after me and blocked my path. "Florence! Are you done throwing a tantrum? I already looked into the situation with Norfolk Pack. Do you really plan to marry him? Leon goes insane on full moon nights. Do you know what an out-of-control werewolf like that is capable of?"

I knew.

On full moon nights, werewolves could lose control. Our terrifying urges for destruction and possessiveness could take over.

In severe cases, some werewolves would even build nests, cry, become extremely insecure, and attack those around them.

Leon, according to rumors, was far worse than this.

But so what?

"That's my problem." I walked past him.

Suddenly, Lily grabbed my arm. She leaned close to my ear and whispered, "Florence, I'm Edmund's mate now. I'm Luna. And you? Your parents don't love you, and your fiance doesn't want you anymore. Look at you. You're pathetic and miserable."

I looked at her and suddenly smiled. "What are you afraid of? Are you concerned I'll become his mistress? Lily, I'm not you. I wouldn't steal someone else's mate."

Her expression turned hostile for a split second before returning to an innocent expression.

She released my arm and stepped back. Her eyes instantly welled with tears. "Florence, I didn't–"

Edmund immediately ran forward and stood protectively in front of her. "Florence! Don't push things too far!"

I had no interest in watching them act anymore, so I turned around and walked away.

Right then, a Ferrari lost control and sped directly toward us.

Edmund reacted instantly. He picked Lily up and dodged to the side of the road.

He slammed into me in the process. I fell hard onto the ground, and a sharp pain shot through my ankle.

The car was about to crash into me. I closed my eyes.

The next second, I fell into a warm embrace.

Someone lifted me into the air and moved at a shocking speed. He was even faster than Edmund.

I opened my eyes and met a pair of dark emerald eyes.

He set me down on a bench by the road.

Without saying a word, he turned around and disappeared into the crowd.

I sat there stunned. I subconsciously reached into my pocket. There was a tube of ointment for burns.

I looked down at my palm. When I fell, I had braced myself against the car's hood. The skin on my palm was torn and blistered.

Did he see it? When did he buy the medicine?

I held the ointment in my hand. That strange feeling filled my heart again.

Across the street, Edmund was comforting Lily, who looked frightened. He didn't even look at me once.

I retrieved the engagement ring he had given me years ago from my purse and threw it directly into the trash.

Edmund survived. After Lily was arrested by the enforcement squad, she was exiled from the pack.Once Edmund recovered, he went to see Lily one last time. No one knew what they talked about. All anyone knew was that after that meeting, Edmund became even more quiet and withdrawn.Three years later, Leon and I had two pups. Our daughter was a rare silver wolf, and our son took after him, a black wolf.During those years, my parents came to see me countless times. They kneeled outside the gates of the manor, crying and begging for my forgiveness. They said they had been foolish to believe Lily back then. They brought gifts they had never given me before, along with property deeds and stock transfers. It was almost everything they owned.I never once saw them.Later, Leon asked me, "Are you sure you don't want to see them? They are your parents after all."I looked out the window and answered calmly, "When they're old, I'll take care of them. But right now, I don't want to see th

After the banquet, life became peaceful again, but the calm didn't last long. One day, Leon and I were having coffee in the garden when the maid came running over in a panic."Luna! Something happened outside!"I stood up. "What happened?""Edmund and Lily were arguing on the road. They started pushing each other and there was an accident. Lily lost her pup!"I froze. Was Lily with pup? When did that happen?I later found out that after Edmund brought Lily back to the Brock family's house, the two of them argued every day.Lily was with pup, and Edmund still hated her to the bone. The two of them tortured each other constantly. One day on the road, they started fighting again.Lily shoved him. He lost his balance, and in the heat of the moment he shoved her back hard. Lily fell, and she lost the pup..The Brock family had only accepted her because of the pup.Once the pup was gone, they immediately kicked her out.I thought that was the end of it.It wasn't until the day

The peaceful days didn't last long. The annual Werewolf Festival of the Norfolk Pack arrived, and as Alpha, Leon had to attend.I didn't really want to go, but he said he wanted me there with him.The banquet hall was filled with clinking glasses and lively chatter. Everyone there was someone important within the pack.Leon was deep in conversation with a few elders, so I wandered over to the dessert table to grab some cake.I had just picked up a piece of tiramisu when a familiar voice came from behind me."Florence."I set down my fork and turned around.Edmund stood in front of me.He was wearing a suit and tie, and he looked a little more put together than before. However, the dark circles under his eyes and the gauntness of his cheeks still betrayed how badly he'd been doing lately."Long time no see," he said.I looked at him without replying. He stepped closer and lowered his voice. "Florence, I need to talk to you. It's important.""What is it?"He glanced in Leo

The healer arrived in time and managed to rescue Edmund. After he recovered, he stopped kneeling outside the manor. Instead, he switched tactics. He started showing up wherever I went. When I went to a cafe, he sat quietly in the corner watching me.When I went to a bookstore, he stood outside the entrance waiting. When I went hunting, he would 'coincidentally' run into me in the forest while holding a carefully wrapped bouquet of artificial flowers."Florence," he said with a smile before handing them to me. "I know you're allergic to pollen. These are artificial flowers. You won't have an allergic reaction."I looked at him and felt this was getting absurd."Edmund, you don't need to do this.""I'm not doing anything," he insisted stubbornly while still holding the flowers out. "I just want to treat you well."Leon appeared behind me at some point, took the bouquet from Edmund, and casually tossed it into a nearby trash can."Alright. You can leave now."Edmund's expressi

Edmund still hadn't given up.Every single day after that, he showed up at the gates of the manor right on time.Sometimes he brought flowers, and other times gifts. Sometimes, he simply knelt there without saying a word.Eventually, I couldn't stand it anymore, so I went out to see him.The moment he saw me step outside, his entire face lit up. He staggered to his feet."Florence!"He ran forward and grabbed my hand. "Florence, you finally came to see me!"I pulled away. "What do you want?"He quickly withdrew his hand."Florence, look!" he said eagerly. "I've already dissolved the mate bond with Lily! We can be together again!"I froze. When I didn't say anything, he must have thought I was wavering. He quickly dug into his coat and pulled out a small ring.It was the one I had thrown into the trash."Florence, this is the ring you threw away. I found it!" He exclaimed with tears in his eyes."Please forgive me, okay? I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you–"

The truth was, Leon really was a little crazy.Afterward, I lay sprawled across the bed. My entire body was sore. He wrapped an arm around me from behind, and his fingers gently traced along my arm."What are you thinking about?" he asked.I turned and shot him an annoyed glare. "I'm wondering who started those ridiculous rumors about you."He chuckled softly and pulled me closer."I did."I froze."What?"His chin rested in the hollow of my shoulder. His tone was casual. "My parents were pushing me nonstop to find a mate, so I figured I'd spread a few rumors. I told people I went insane on full moon nights and bit people. I said a witch cursed me, and that I'd kill my own mate.""Did they stop pressuring you then?""They pressured me even harder." He laughed. "But the more outrageous the rumors became, the fewer shewolves wanted to become my mate. That meant I could keep protecting you."I fell silent. It had been seven years. He had protected me for seven years."What
