“Are you sure you want to do this?” Alice asked as she pulled out a gorgeous red gown from a box. Her twinkling eyes were fixed on the gown, but her words were clearly for Nyssa.
“I am.” Came Nyssa’s short reply.
As for Old Papa Ganda, he wasn't sure what to do as he stared at Nyssa. He said,
“Revenge has never been a good reason to live life, Nyssa. You have to calm down and think about this.”
Nyssa turned from what she was doing to meet the eyes of Old Papa Ganda,
“Papa, you were the one who informed me that the moon goddess has instructed me to head back to the Moonrage pack.” She reminded him.
“That doesn't mean it is for revenge, Nyssa. What if it was for a different reason?” He asked, but she snorted.
“I saw it. I have been seeing it for years since I walked out of that fire. The moon goddess is sending me back to the Moonrage pack to destroy every single one of them. They wronged her, and she is upset!”
“That was your pack, Nyssa.” Alice intruded, standing with Old Papa Ganda.
Nyssa's lips pulled up into a smirk, eyes dark, “You said it, Alice. That WAS my pack. Not anymore.” She turned away to look at the window, “A pack that killed one of its wolves. I don't care if the moon goddess is angry at them. It is my greatest pleasure to be her messenger of destruction to that pack.”
“Nyssa…” Old Papa Ganda tried to coax her, but he didn't know what else could change her mind. As for Alice, she asked,
“What about him? Alpha Lucien?”
Nyssa's eyes darkened, her fingers clenched as she let out a bitter laugh. “Alpha, huh?” She didn't wait for Alice to reply, then said, turning to look at the young girl, “I would rip his heart out of his chest just like I planned to rip Mark's head off his neck, but the war did it for me.”
Alice shifted her gaze from Nyssa to Old Papa Ganda, who had a grim expression on his face. He has never been in support of Nyssa taking revenge. He has tried to talk her out of it for two years.
Not until the moon goddess sent a message through him to Nyssa to return to the Moonrage pack. Still, he believes it has to be for a different reason and not to extinguish a whole pack.
“Nyssa…”
“It's the reason I was reborn, Papa. To be a messenger to the moon goddess. If she says move, I move, and she has said it. You confirmed it yourself.” She replied, causing Old Papa Ganda to seal his lips. She turned to Alice and instructed,
“Hire a carriage, we will be leaving soon.”
*****“We're late,” Alice said to Nyssa, who sat inside the carriage outside the large building for the ball. Her eyes were fixed on the building, which was the same place where she was rejected by Prince Lucien.
Anger flickered through her eyes, and the grip on her gown tightened. Then she replied after a few minutes, “Hm, I planned to come late.” Her voice cold and distant, Alice gulped.
The carriage was finally opened for Nyssa and Alice, and they stepped down carefully, holding their gown so they wouldn't trip on them.
Nyssa was dressed in a red gown, her blond hair was let to fall down her shoulders with red lipstick on her lips. The side of her lips pulled up.
Beside her was Alice, dressed in a purple gown, her red hair packed in a ponytail, and her eyes fixed on the building they were about to enter.
She still doesn't know what Nyssa was planning tonight, but she knew that it involved someone dying, if not more than one.
Since the day she had nursed Nyssa back to health, the girl has been training like her life depended on it, and now, she was here to destroy a whole pack for killing her.
Although Nyssa had said she was doing it for the moon goddess as her reborn messenger, she thinks otherwise.
“Shall we?” Nyssa asked, arching her arm for Alice to take. The girl's cheek reddened slightly before taking Nyssa's arm, and they walked into the ball.
Heads turned the moment Nyssa stepped in, red gown clinging like sin, blonde hair cascading down her back. No one recognized her, but everyone felt the chill in her gaze.
Whose pack was she from? No one knew.
Alice watched with curious yet careful eyes the drinking, eating, and laughing, but she never expected the pleasuring. Her eyes widened when she saw almost naked girls and men. She wondered if that was how a ball was.
Nyssa picked up two glasses of wine and gave one to Alice, yet her eyes were fixed on the first row. The row where she expected the Alpha and his wife to be.
A frown formed on her face when she didn't see Lucien. The more she looked, the more her eyes darkened,
‘Where the hell is he?!’
Not able to contain her anger, she made her way towards the row. There was a young man who was seated in the Alpha's position.
“Where is the Alpha?” she tried to ask sweetly.
“I am the Alpha. What do you want from me?” The man answered.
Nyssa blinked, her knowing eyes remained on the man for a while, and she shook her head negatively. The rage between her eyes was brewing as she asked again,
“Where is Alpha Lucien?”
“Who are you and what do you want from my brother?” She heard a voice from behind her and turned to see a lady dressed in a beautiful pink gown. She looked so much like Lucien that she could tell that she was one of Lucien's sisters.
So she asked,
“Princess Lillian or Princess Lucy?”
“Princess Lucy,” The lady replied with folded arms.
The crowd's attention was on the people in the first row now. Princess Lucy had made sure everyone heard her speak to Nyssa. The hall was as silent as a graveyard now.
“Alright, Lady Lucy. Where is Alpha Lucien?”
“And I asked Who are you and what do you want from my brother?”
“I am Nyssa Wales, and I am sent to—”
“Servant number…16?” A familiar voice cut her off.
All eyes turned to the entrance of the hall. They gasped when they saw the Alpha.
“Alpha Lucien?”
He was dressed in a sleeping garment and clearly not for a royal party.
But Lucien didn't even realize. He stood frozen, his wide eyes fixed on Nyssa, his breathing uneven, showing that he had been running.
He couldn't believe who he was seeing in flesh and blood in front of him. He dreamt of her day after day. His legs moved on instinct, but his heart trembled.
And from deep within him, a voice roared back to life, “My mate!” and his eyes grew even wider as the light in the hall flickered.
“Varn?” Lucien breathed in disbelief.
The glass in Lucy’s hand shattered as she turned to look from Lucien and slowly to Nyssa.
She was back.
And so was his wolf.
“Step aside. I want to see my daughter!” Papa Ganda's voice rang through the hallway. Behind him was Alice, who was trying to calm her father down. But Papa Ganda didn't listen. The moment Papa Ganda stepped into the Moonrage pack, the wind unpleasantly greeted him. His heart raced; he knew something was wrong. He rushed into the packhouse. When he got into his room, Alice was there. But Nyssa wasn't. “Papa!” She screamed, rushing into his hug.She was fine. She was safe. Then—-“Nyssa.” He called. Pulling Alice away from his embrace, he asked with urgency, “Where is she?” Alice frowned. “The last time I heard, she had a meeting with the Alpha.” Papa Ganda's eyes hardened. What did Lucien do? Without wasting a moment, he turned and began to walk out of the room with a large slide. Alice frowned and quickly followed. She raced behind him. “Papa. What's wrong?” She asked. “Did something happen?”Papa Ganda didn't reply. He was almost running with his long robe that he gathere
Seated beside the sleeping figure, Lucien opened the cup of ointment. He dipped his fingers inside and brushed off the damp strand of hair that stuck to her face. He slowly and carefully began to apply the ointment on the angry marks on her skin. When he reached her hands, his jaws clenched. Her wrists covered with bruises—marks of the ropes that had her bound like a criminal. His eyes hardened, a low growl deep within his chest. They would pay. Then—He moved. To tend to her cuts on her legs. Gentle and careful. Yet the violence continued to boil within him. Then— a stir. He froze. Slowly, his eyes travelled from her legs to her eyes to see her staring back at him. His lips parted, but no words came out. For a breath, neither of them spoke. The silence between them was heavy, charged.Nyssa realized she was in his room. He had a cup of ointment in his hands and was applying it himself to her scars. She realized her clothes were no longer wet, so she wasn't wearing the same cl
The slamming of the door caused everyone to freeze in panic. Heads whipped towards the door to see a massive wolf walking through. Eyes wide. The servants, maids and guards stood in fear. They had never seen a wolf as massive. The guards stood on alert to fight, drawing out their swords. Their trembling fingers gripped the swords tightly with wide eyes. They positioned, one leg forward and one backward, waiting for the wolf to attack. Varn growled at them. Yet, he didn't turn to attack. He walked towards the stairs. Then—They saw her. Nyssa. She lay on his back. Eyes closed. Clothes wet. Their eyes widened. Lucy rushed out of the left wing. She saw Varn and Nyssa on his back, looking lifeless. And ran towards them. She has been waiting in panic. “Get the pack healer.” She yelled, following Varn, who made his way up the stairs. Lucy's command pulls them all out of their trance. They hurried out, rushing to get the pack healer. On getting to his chamber, Varn pushed the doo
The wind blew heavier, adding weight to the fear in Fabian's heart. He turned to the boys, who still could not understand what was going on. He ordered, pointing towards the right.“There is a lake down there, behind the trees.” As he spoke in haste, his voice trembled, “I have connected to it. Cut it. Cut the rope immediately, and she’ll fall into the the lake.” He didn’t wait for their response. His feet slid across the dirt as he moved away, each step faster than the last. He tried to keep it casual, but his body betrayed him—Fabian was running. Running from what he felt closing in.Only Nyssa noticed. Her voice lashed at his back. “Fabian! Where are you going? Come back. Face him!”But Fabian refused to turn back. All he kept saying was, “Cut the rope. Now. Do it now.” The boys exchanged uneasy glances, still blind to the urgency. They couldn’t feel the weight in the air, couldn’t hear the warning carried on the wind. They had no idea what hunted them. One of the boys pulled
Lucien's heart dropped to his stomach. His wolf pushed to the surface. The air around him thickened until it was almost impossible to breathe. ‘I never sent for her.’ These words repeated in his head as his fingers grew ice-cold. He looked at Lucy and swallowed. Lucy’s concerned gaze locked on him. ‘What was going on?’ she wondered. Concern contoured on her face as she looked at Lucien, who looked like he had seen death itself. However, Alice remained unaware. “It's okay.” Lucien forced the words out, though his voice shook, “I will go and see her now. I thought she might refuse to come.” Alice giggled lightly. “She almost didn't want to.” She recalled how Nyssa kept asking the guard so many questions, “It was only when she heard you wanted to see her outside the pack house did she finally agree.”“Wait—what?” Lucy asked, her head snapped towards Alice. Lucien never goes out of the pack house. Why would someone tell Nyssa he was out there?Realizing she’d said too much, Alice c
Nyssa continued to walk calmly with the guard. But not so calm anymore. Every branch that snapped under her feet felt like a warning. The position has been switched. The guard was no longer in front of her but behind her. She felt on the edge, her throat tightened, but she kept walking. Looking back at intervals to ask, “Is the stream that far?” “Yes, my lady.” This is the response the guard kept giving her. And she was beginning to sense that this wasn't Lucien's doing. Something is not right. The more she thought of it, the more her heart palpitated in her chest. Her eyes searched for what she could use as a weapon. She noticed the path she was taking was familiar. And it dawned on her. This was the path she took the night she was running out of the Moonrage pack before she was killed. Her eyes widened. Her heart in her throat, her legs pleaded to go back. She didn't want to be anywhere near here again. Suddenly—-“Stop.” Nyssa stilled. When she turned, she saw that the g
