Xena’s POV

The road back home was quiet.

Kael didn’t say much during the drive or when we were in the plane, he had returned to his annoying and dickhead personality.

His jaw was clenched, his eyes focused on the road ahead like he was trying to drive away from something in his mind.

When we finally pulled into the pack house compound, he killed the engine and looked at me.

“I have to take care of something. It's urgent,” he said.

Unfortunately I was too slow to get the message.

“Don't tell me you want me to walk you inside,” he frowned.

My hands moved at instinct, I opened the door and got out of the car, slamming the door shut behind me. The car started almost immediately, driving back to the gate.

I rolled my eyes, letting out a faint scoff. I was back to a place where I'm constantly reminded that my secret could be out anytime and they could kill me for it.

The door burst opened and Susan ran straight to me, arms wide open, and pulled me into a hug that almost killed me.

  • Marked by betrayal, bound to the Lycan Lord.   The price of my promise.

Kael’s POVI was back in town and every breath I took burned with frustration. My claws itched to tear something apart. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Xena—bound, broken, screaming—and I had no way of knowing where she was.I had gathered every known hunter of impure wolves I could find. They stood lined up in the clearing inside a black room I bought to torture the impure wolves in the area till I got what I wanted. Their eyes wide with fear, hands behind their backs. Some were bleeding already. My people didn’t go easy when rounding them up."Start talking," I growled, stepping in front of the group. "Someone here knows something. Who touched her?"One older hunter shook his head immediately. "We don’t even know who she is!"I slammed him into the wall before he could blink. His skull bounced off the bark. "That wasn’t the question."Another man, trembling, raised his hands slowly. "We heard rumors... but nothing solid. We swear, Lord Kael, we didn’t lay a finger on your woman."

Author’s POV. In the far corner of the filthy concrete room, under a flickering bulb that buzzed like an angry fly, the men who held Xena captive sat around a rickety wooden table. A cracked chessboard was laid out between them, dusty pieces moved with lazy fingers. One of them, a bald man with a jagged scar slicing through his eyebrow, adjusted a rook and grinned.“She screamed for hours yesterday,” a man with a scar on his eyes muttered with a grin. “Bet she’ll scream even louder tomorrow.”The one across from him, chuckled. “We haven’t even touched her yet. Just wait until we start our little routine. I’ll take the mornings. You can have the night.”They all laughed. “I want to see her crawl,” another said, carefully watching the men move their players across the board. “Begging for death. Crying for that filthy mutt of a Lycan Lord.”Scar-eye shifted his knight. “Don’t worry. It won't take long before she breaks.”They exchanged glances, smiling like men who just won a prize. “

Kael’s POVI paced the room like a madman, over and over again, back and forth, my fists clenched, blood boiling in my veins. My mind clouded with unsettling thoughts. What was I thinking? Never did I imagine that things would go out of hand so quickly. I should have ditched Xena the moment I knew she was impure. But even now, I worry more about her than myself. Why was I doing that?” Susan stood by the window, her arms folded, her face hard. “This is going to be a damn mess if it becomes public,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “You know that, right? If this hits the Council’s ears or the other packs get a whiff—”“They will,” I muttered, not stopping. “Eventually, they always do.”She exhaled sharply and cursed under her breath. “You should’ve never let that girl come back here. That half-breed was always going to ruin everything.”I stopped pacing and turned to her with a glare. “Watch your tone. She's still my wife.”Her eyes widened in shock. I too was even shocked at how

Xena’s Pov. I stayed still until there was no one in the room— or I hope there wasn't. I couldn't really see because I was blindfolded. The clothes wrapped around my eyes, so tight that my eyes ached. I tried to move, but my arms were pulled tight behind me. My legs were also bound so I couldn't move, I was basically tied to the spot. My head slumped forward, and the moment I lifted it, a jolt of pain shot down my spine.Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching me. My head swung to the direction of the sound, my heart beating loudly. “Please…” my voice cracked. “Please let me go…”I didn’t even know who I was begging. I just wanted out. “Shut up,” a voice growled from nearby. It was a man’s voice and it laced of disgust. “The impure one speaks,” he shouted as if alerting the others. The sound of footsteps circled around me. I swallowed the lump in my throat as my head kept swinging left and right. “Why are you doing this?” I asked, my voice cracking. “What have I done?”“What hav

Kael’s Pov“Kael… Kael—wake up!”Viktor’s voice echoed from somewhere far away, like I was trapped under water and trying to swim up. My head pounded like a drum, each beat worse than the last. I groaned and rolled to the side, feeling cold floor against my cheek.“What the hell happened to you?” Viktor asked again, crouching beside me.I blinked at him, forcing my eyes to focus. “They took her,” I muttered. My voice was hoarse and dry, like I’d been swallowing sand.“Who?” Viktor demanded. His face filled with panic. “Xena.” I rubbed the back of my head and winced. There was a lump there and it throbbing like it had a heartbeat of its own. “Someone hit me. Hard. Took her before I could do anything.”Viktor glanced around the living room, his jaw clenched. “Unfortunately, they didn't know they messed with the wrong person.”I scoffed. “I think they knew. They knocked me hard cold. They were too trained to b random people. Whoever they are they must know so much about the Lycan Lord.”

Xena’s POVI stayed in the house the whole day patiently waiting for the buyers, I wasn't sure why but I just felt should be there. My body ached from the contractions, faint but constant, and just enough to keep me on the edge. Kael had been gone since morning, out at the range again. I didn't know what it was with him and those horses. But whatever it was, I wasn't a little bit curious. I had business of my own. I paced the living room, then moved to the hallway, then back again. Every now and then I’d stop, take deep breaths, drop into a squat, hold it, breathe again. The exercises helped with the pain, helped keep my mind busy. But only a little. The day was really long. I looked out the front window more times than I could count. The buyers were supposed to come, but they didn’t. And no way would my step father call off the deal because I told him too. But most importantly where was he? I haven't seen him all morning. Selina came home later, she looked like she had just esca
