Damien's POV

“I feel like you made the wrong decision,” Alex's voice rose in the back of my mind.

“At this point, I don't know what is right or wrong,” I said, so only I could hear.

I felt like I knew a great deal. Yet, I understood so little. I was functioning on instinct. The moment I spoke those words, it felt right and wrong at the same time. “You are hereby exiled from the pack.”

“Did you see the look on her face?” Alex's voice rose again.

Of course I did. I didn't feel the weight of my words until she was sent out of the Blackthorne gates. Even though I felt that way, I didn't remember her. I didn't remember anything beyond the last few weeks.

After the council meeting, everyone moved with purpose. I felt like the only one standing still. When wolves called me Alpha, it took a few minutes for me to realise they were talking to me. It became a title I barely recognised. The rest of the night passed very slowly. Aragon helped me to my quarters. I stared at the ceiling tryin

Damien's POV I followed Aragon's finger as he traced lines across the map he carried. “Five miles north, then a few miles west,” he muttered, marking something. I leaned over, squinting at the details. “That leads us straight to the Tarlock border,” I said, my voice low. He nodded, eyes still fixed on the parchment. “Yes, that's exactly it.” I ran a hand through my hair, thinking about our next line of action. “The human lands… It's the only place left for me now. With a bounty on my head, there's nowhere else I can hide.” Aragon's gaze met mine. We exchanged a slow nod, a silent agreement that we were both ready. The tunnel stretched behind us and we were finally stepping into the open. The sunlight hit my face. I took a deep breath and let my senses adjust to the new environment we had just entered. We walked side by side, the sound of silence louder than the breaking of branches as we walked. I finally broke it. “Aragon,” I said, keeping my voice steady, despite the numb

Lira's POV I stepped cautiously towards the building, taking in everything in my surroundings. Things hadn't changed much since the last time I was there. Only that it was unusually quiet. “Why… why is it so still?” I whispered. Lord Marco glanced at me, his expression calm. “It's because this is the back entrance,” he said. “Most of the guards followed the General to the werewolf lands. Some of them didn't make it back. The rest are scattered or too scared to return.” I furrowed my brows. “So… no one is watching this place?” He shook his head. “There aren't usually a lot of guards stationed here. There's little need for a heavy guard for this area.” I took a small step closer, eyes flicking to the massive doors in front of us. Lord Marco motioned for everyone to step back. His gaze swept over the few men with us, lingering on me. “Lira,” he said quietly. “Do you remember the plan?” I nodded, gripping my armour tightly. “Every detail.” He looked at the others. “And you all?”

Damien's POV “Have the spies been sent out?” I asked.“Yes,” Aragon replied.I had to be very cautious. Since the announcement of the bounty, I had been in my Den, planning the next line of action to take.“Every corner of the border is secure,” he continued. “We have eyes watching for illegal crossings, rival packs and mercenaries. No one will be foolish enough to try their luck.”That should have given me some comfort. But it didn't.Aragon stepped closer, lowering his voice. “This is not the time for you to step down,” he said firmly. Before I could answer, the door opened and Elder Roman walked in with a sharp gaze.“Alpha,” Aragon continued, turning slightly so Roman could hear every word. “Your title protects you. As long as you are Alpha, the pack is bound to you by oath. You promised to find a cure. There's still time. Stepping down now won't solve the problem. It will only make you vulnerable.”Roman's staff struck the floor, making us face him.“Enough.”Both of us turned t

The General's POV I couldn't help but get lost in my thoughts as we marched. The journey to the campsite felt endless. My eyes kept drifting to him. He was a man of surprises and I couldn't trust him.The war hadn't even started yet but he had already seen himself as a victor. He believed he held the upper hand, that the world had finally bent to his will. He thought I was on his side. But I never forgot. The night he turned his back on me. Years ago, he had come to me desperately, his voice trembling as he spoke of his child. He begged for my help and gave me assurance that he would do what I asked in exchange for my help. I did everything I could to help. I pushed the limits of what should have been possible. However, the problem he presented was something science could not solve. When I failed to reverse what had already been done to his child, Salcan's promises became dust. He twisted the story, making it seem like I refused and painting me as a monster. Everyone had decided who

Lira's POV I nodded at Lord Marco signalling that I understood the plan. Every detail he had laid out was perfect. Yet, I couldn't shake off the heaviness in my heart. Back in my old life, before I got my wolf, before all this, I complained about being alone, about nobody caring, about how dull life had been. And now I had Syvira, I carried an even heavier burden. The thought that Damien might never get the cure before the next full moon clawed at me. What would that mean for him and the Blackthornes? The very idea of losing him–of losing everything hurt more than I could have ever imagined. While Lord Marco and the others were preparing, I moved closer to Matthew. He lay nearby and Alia sat close. “How are you feeling Matthew?” I asked softly, trying to focus on something else. He shrugged. A small smile tugged at his lips. “I'm fine. Alia is keeping me entertained with stories about the house. I chuckled slightly, though it sounded forced. “Well, bore me with your stories

  • Marked by my father's enemy alpha    The better version of the General

Lord Marco's POV I watched Lira closely, taking in the way her face fell the moment I told her the truth–that what the General had done would become permanent by the next full moon if we didn't act quickly. Her expression was glum, almost as if the mute button had been pressed. Not a word escaped her lips. I understood how she felt. If I were in her shoes, I would be just as shaken. It wasn't just about the cruelty of my brother. It ran deeper. My brother had always acted as though the werewolf lands would never interest him as much as they do now. But his purpose was finally clear. We wanted to be among them so badly. He still clung on to old wounds from the past with Damien and me. But dwelling on that in front of Lira would do nothing to ease her pain. What mattered now was action. And I had to help her. She has risked her life to save Alia. She always put others first at great personal cost–a trait he shared in common with my wife. “Lira,” I said gently.” Breaking the silence
