Chapter 3

Author: Millionaire Candy
Jason sounded like he was asking Sophie for permission, but he was actually just informing her. He'd probably already brought Geraldine to Livera with him.

They thought they could play Sophie like a fiddle just because she couldn't see!

Sophie sneered inwardly. She'd planned on dealing with Geraldine after returning to Dalea, but she had to make the most of this opportunity since Geraldine had served herself on a silver platter.

"I'm fine with that." Sophie gripped the sheets beneath her tightly, but her lips curved upward into a faint smile. She tried to keep her anger at bay as she said, "Since she's your client, she can stay with us."

Jason was surprised by her answer. It was what he wanted, but why wasn't he as happy as expected?

"Sweetheart, you're not jealous?" He held Sophie's hand again and looked at her keenly. "You don't think there's anything wrong with a female client staying in our house?"

"You said she's a client, right? I'm not that petty." Sophie remained nonchalant.

"But…"

"Or do you want me to object?"

Sophie's question left Jason at a loss for words. It was good that she'd agreed, but she'd at least still shown some signs of being jealous when there had been similar situations in the past.

The fact that she got jealous meant that she cared about him, which was why he liked seeing her like that. Now, however, she didn't seem bothered by this.

Jason suddenly felt uncomfortable. He started wondering whether Sophie was acting like this because she'd discovered something.

However, he pushed the thought out of his mind almost as soon as it formed. He'd hidden the truth perfectly. Sophie would never find out!

"Of course not." Jason relaxed and smiled. "Don't worry, sweetheart. I won't let her disturb you."

Sophie made a sound of acknowledgment but said nothing else. She pulled her hand out of Jason's again. She clenched her other fist, making her nails dig into her palm.

It was painful, but it couldn't compare to her heartache. She had to remember the agony she felt now; she could never forget it!

She was supposed to spend a few more days in the hospital, but she didn't want to stay there any longer since Geraldine had already moved into her and Jason's place. That day itself, she was discharged.

As soon as Sophie got out of the car, she heard the sound of high heels clicking on the floor as someone approached.

"What took you so long to get back?" Geraldine asked. Her voice was cloying. "Didn't you promise to spend all your time with me?"

Sophie heard her and tightened her grip on her white cane. Not wanting to alert anyone, she acted like she didn't recognize the voice and asked, "Who is that, Jason? Why is she talking to you like that?"

"She's the client I told you about." Jason supported her, but he turned to Geraldine and spoke to her urgently in Faerian. "Are you deliberately being like this because you want her to know you're here?"

"So what if she finds out?" Geraldine asked in return, using Faerian too. Her tone was nonchalant. "Besides, she's blind now. She can't see anything! How can she know it's me?"

She glanced at Sophie, who still had bandages around her eyes. A hint of smugness flickered in her eyes.

Jason's expression darkened, but he said nothing else. He helped Sophie back to the bedroom.

She was disgusted by him, so she pushed him away the moment they were inside. Then, she asked him for the ring. He looked around the room but couldn't find it anywhere.

"I forgot where I put it, sweetheart," he said guiltily. "I'll look for it again when I have time."

Sophie frowned, feeling upset. The ring was the only thing Tricia had left for her, and he knew very well how much it meant to her. How could he throw it around carelessly and even lose it?

Her anger surged, and her voice turned icy. "I'll only give you one day to find it and return it to me!"

Though Jason found Sophie's attitude unusual, he could understand why. He knew how important the ring was to her. He remembered having it on before returning to Dalea, so it was likely that he'd left it with Geraldine.

"I'll go look for it elsewhere now." He hurried out of the bedroom.

Sophie knew he was probably going to Geraldine. Instead of following him, she called her maid, Fiona Smith. Sophie had personally picked her out after coming to Livera. Fiona had cared for Sophie's daily needs for the past two years.

Sophie had trusted her wholeheartedly before this, but she now had her guard up around everyone. After all, even Jason, with whom she shared a bed, had betrayed her.

And so, Sophie had hired a private investigator to look into Fiona for her while she was at the hospital. After confirming that Fiona wasn't on Jason's side and could be trusted, Sophie had sought Fiona out and asked her for help.

It wasn't convenient for her to do certain things alone.

Soon, the sky turned dark.

During dinner, Jason helped Sophie with her food while conversing with Geraldine in Faerian. Their conversation was flirtatious. They spoke freely, thinking that Sophie couldn't understand them.

Unbeknownst to them, hidden surveillance cameras had been installed in every corner of the common areas in the house. Every word that they said would be recorded loud and clear.

Sophie didn't expect that Jason and Geraldine could be this shameless. Her anger threatened to burst forth, but she tried her best to keep it under control because she wanted to get more evidence.

Suddenly, Geraldine exclaimed, "I got in, Jason! I can participate in The Lotus Trophy!"

Sophie was stunned to hear that. The Lotus Trophy was the most prestigious competition in Dalea's dance industry, and it was held biennially.

Sophie had started learning classical dance when she was four, and she'd won countless dance awards since childhood. At 18, she'd become the principal dancer of the National Theatre of Song and Dance.

Before losing her vision, she'd won The Lotus Trophy three consecutive times. She'd even been awarded the Special Award of the Committee for Individual Performance. These were all supreme honors.

Geraldine, on the other hand, had never been qualified to participate!

"Sophie can't participate this year, so the gold medal is definitely mine!" Geraldine was delighted.

After being reunited with the Samson family, she had insisted on learning classical dance upon finding out that Sophie was doing it. Every competition that Sophie joined, Geraldine had to join as well.

She couldn't compare to Sophie in terms of talent or hard work, so she always came up short in every competition she joined. However, she remained delusionally confident that Sophie was no match for her.

Now, after hearing Geraldine's words, Sophie finally understood why the former had stolen her corneas two years ago. She wanted to stop Sophie from participating in The Lotus Trophy!

Despite knowing how passionate Sophie was about dancing and how she'd continued to practice even after going blind, Jason had still chosen to help Geraldine hurt her.

The more Sophie thought about it, the angrier she got. She almost flipped the table right then and there.

Did Geraldine actually think she would win the competition with Sophie out of the way?

How ridiculous!

Sophie wouldn't let her succeed!

"That's great." Jason smiled.

"A blind person doesn't deserve to be a principal dancer!" Geraldine leaned into his arms. She looked at Sophie mockingly while saying in Faerian, "This is only the beginning. From now on, her place will be mine!"

She wasn't just referring to being the principal dancer. She would also take Sophie's place as Jason's wife!

"Of course it will," Jason said dotingly, going along with her.

Then, Sophie heard an odd sound, followed by Geraldine moaning softly. It was unmistakably suggestive.

Geraldine and Jason were making out right in front of her!

Sophie was so disgusted by them that she almost puked. She would be pathetic if she continued putting up with this!

From an emotional perspective, Sophie hated having to suspect Patrick. However, her rational side told her that she couldn't be swayed by her emotions now.She was certain Patrick was involved in this incident, and she wanted to rattle him by revealing this discovery. Whatever role he played in this, he would definitely be thrown off course when he heard this revelation.Sure enough, things went as Sophie expected. Patrick wasn't fully awake yet, but the drowsiness was startled out of him when he heard her words."That's impossible!" He sounded even more agitated than Sophie was. "The footage was copied straight from the system. There can't be anything wrong with it!""I'll send the investigation results to you right now. You'll see what I mean when you see it.""I don't need it. I only trust myself and what I saw." Patrick's voice turned cold. "Soph, I know you're only being irrational because you're worried about Mom, but the truth is what it is. Mom is in stable condition now,

"I didn't do it!" Jason was agitated. "I never forced Geraldine to do anything! She told me there was a problem with her corneas and that she needed to perform a transplant using Sophie's corneas!""Sophie Walker was your girlfriend at the time. Why did you go along with Geraldine so easily just because she asked you to? How are you two related?" a police officer asked sharply. "Based on our investigation, Geraldine Samson has never had a cornea transplant. She never needed Sophie's corneas!""That's impossible!" Jason cried. "I've seen her medical history. There really was something wrong with her corneas!""We have all the evidence. Whether or not you believe us won't change the outcome!" The police officer looked at him darkly. "I'll ask you this once more—did you orchestrate this whole thing? You'll be given a lighter sentence if you confess your crimes, so think before you speak!"Jason didn't say anything. His mind raced as he processed what the officer had just told him. The

Sophie perked up when she heard that. She tightened her hold on her phone and asked, "What is it?""You were taken from the entrance of Gellard Street, right? There's an Internet cafe there with a surveillance camera at the entrance. It caught the whole thing. Michael wanted to destroy the evidence, so he paid a high price for the footage," Lana explained."The group we tracked down today spilled the truth. We went to the cafe's owner and scared him a little to make him come clean about everything. He was clever enough to keep a copy of the video, and he's kept it safe all these years in hopes of using it to extort Michael a few years down the road."We now have the footage, and it clearly shows Geraldine's face. With this video and the witnesses' testimonies, we have more than enough evidence to press charges against Geraldine."Sophie remained tense as Lana spoke. She only relaxed when Lana finished. This day had finally come!"Sue her. Do it now!" Sophie clutched her phone tigh

"Then we'll leave it to you, George. I'm worried about Terry being alone at home, so Patrick and I should get going. We'll take over from you tomorrow," Letitia said without hesitation.Patrick's expression shifted at her behavior, but he didn't say anything to stop her.Once they were gone, Sophie and George were left alone in the hospital room with an unconscious Cornelia."Grandpa…" Sophie started."You should go, too." George cut in. "I know what you want to look into. Go ahead with it, and be honest with me when you tell me what you find out. I'll watch over Lia, so don't worry about her."He hadn't been the head of the Walker family for so many years for no reason. He was sharp. Some things didn't need to be spelled out; he could see them clearly.Sophie nodded. "I'll get going, then. Let me know if Grandma wakes up.""Alright. Go on," he said hoarsely.Once she was gone, George sighed heavily and reached out to gently caress Cornelia's face. Choked up, he asked, "Lia, do

"Mrs. Walker Senior has a fractured left arm, intracranial bleeding, and a concussion. Her condition isn't great, so she'll have to be hospitalized for a few days for treatment. "The silver lining is that the bleeding isn't severe," the doctor said. "If it gets absorbed naturally, then she'll be fine. But if that doesn't happen, she'll need surgery."Sophie's and George's expressions darkened at that. It was far too risky for Cornelia to undergo brain surgery at her age. Natural absorption of blood would obviously be the best outcome. However, that wasn't something they could meddle in. All they could do now was ensure she received active treatment and pray for improvement.Cornelia was wheeled out of the operating theater and to a hospital room after the doctor left. Only then did Patrick end his call and join everyone there."Dad, how is Mom?" he asked anxiously as he looked at Cornelia, who was still unconscious.George didn't answer as he kept his eyes trained on Cornelia. Cornelia's health wasn't the best, to begin with. Even though she'd only fallen a dozen or so steps, the impact took a significant toll on her body. When Sophie arrived at the hospital, Cornelia was still in the ER. George, Patrick, and Letitia waited outside.Sophie hurried to George. She wanted to comfort him, but she had no idea what to say when she saw his red-rimmed eyes. He and Cornelia had such a strong bond; Sophie knew nothing she said then would make him feel better. However, Cornelia had lived at Walker Manor for 50 years and knew everything there like the back of her hand. Why would she have suddenly fallen?Sophie's gut told her something was off, but she couldn't ask George about it. She went to Patrick instead."Don't read too deeply into this—no one pushed her. She missed a step and fell." Patrick sighed. He pulled out his phone and showed her the surveillance footage. "She's getting on in years, so maybe she was just confused."Sophie remembered that she was supp
