Cassandra’s POV

I sat limply in the waiting room, which was Monica's office after the woman had taken me out of the auction room. Monica said the other women had already been taken by their buyers because most of them were sold for 15-25 thousand dollars. They could make payments with the operator on duty there and leave without a trace, taking their chosen women wherever they wanted. However, something different happened to me.

“I knew you were beautiful from the moment I saw you come in here. Even then, you were unconscious, and I couldn’t see your eyes. But I was sure you would fetch a good price at tonight’s auction. But one million dollars?” Monica clicked her tongue and shook her head. “This is beyond my expectations. No one has ever fetched that much. The most I’ve ever gotten was 100 thousand dollars, and that was when I was lucky because the only son of a winery owner was bored and decided to spend some of his money here.”

I stared at her in fear. One million dollars was no small amount. That amount could buy a simple house here. What kind of crazy man would spend it on buying a woman of unknown origins?

“If he bought you for one million dollars, then I can assure you he has a lot of money. And I know for sure that he has a lot of money because I’ve often heard his name. 19 is his number—it’s a name full of power. So, be nice to him because you might get lucky if he likes you.” Monica continued while I just sat there stiffly. “I’m saying this as advice because you’ve already given me a huge sum of money—ten times the amount of your father’s debt.”

I looked up at her in panic, “Then can you get what you want and return the rest to him? I might be able to negotiate with him so he’ll let me go, and I’ll pay off my debt to him.”

Monica laughed when she heard my idea. “Listen, they didn’t come here to negotiate. And I have to warn you that negotiating with them is much harder than with me.”

I closed my eyes as frustration filled me. I knew this was really bad—worse than anything.

“As per our agreement, I’ll only take a portion. You made me very rich by getting one million dollars. How about I give you a portion of it? Of course, after I deduct your father’s debt. Maybe you can get 300-400 thousand dollars? That’s a large sum, don’t you think?” Monica asked. “If you agree, come back here after you finish dealing with him.”

Monica made an offer with a huge sum of money. However, compared to what I had to do, that money meant nothing at all.

My life would end badly, and money couldn’t fix everything.

While I was lost in my fear, I heard the door open, and five men in black uniforms stepped in, placing a large bag on Monica’s table. They were wearing masks, so I couldn’t see their faces. Even if they weren’t wearing them, I still wouldn’t recognize them because I know that I never know them.

“We’re representatives of Mr. Number 19, and we’ve come with the cash you requested.”

Monica’s eyes lit up, and her bodyguards immediately opened the bag to inspect its contents. It turned out it was full of money.

I had never seen this much money in my life, and now I felt even more panicked.

“I’ll have someone check this money. You can take it to Mr. Number 19. He has a powerful name in the underground world, and I’ve heard it many times. I didn’t expect him to come to my house tonight,” Monica said calmly.

I didn’t understand why they were still using aliases up to this point.

“Yes, he also sends his regards to you. He said you might need to meet soon because he wants to greet you.”

“That…” Monica became even more shocked when she heard this. “That’s more surprising than I thought.”

“He did it because you found him a green-eyed woman.”

“I’ve heard about his obsession, but I thought it was just a myth.”

“Maybe you should believe in that myth now,” replied the man in front of her.

“Send my regards to him. He’ll be warmly welcomed at my house.”

The man in front of her didn’t say anything. He turned around and walked toward me, who had been forced to stand by Monica’s bodyguard.

Unexpectedly, the man took off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders as if he knew I was embarrassed and uncomfortable with my outfit. I reluctantly hugged it tightly because it was much better than letting my half-naked body show in public.

“Of course, Monica. See you later.”

***

The man led me to a black Range Rover parked in the lobby of Monica’s grand building. I didn’t know the building was this large and magnificent because I had fainted when I first arrived.

My thoughts were more chaotic now, and I realized that I might not have a chance to run away again once I got into the car. I had had many bad experiences with cars, and that... made me terrified.

“Was it that woman who hurt your eye?” The man beside me asked. He was still wearing a mask, but I could sense his intimidating aura clearly just from the way he looked at me.

“Did she hit you?” He repeated his question.

I shook my head. Even though I didn’t know what to say about Monica, I could feel that she was actually quite kind. It was just that she was obsessed with money, and that might have led her into the dark business.

I didn’t know. Even though I was a psychology graduate, I couldn’t read people’s personalities just from a brief meeting. But what was certain was that Monica had never hit me. It was my father’s men who had done that, and I didn’t know where they were now.

“Did you hit yourself?”

“No,” I shook my head.

“So, who did it?”

I looked around in fear. There was nothing here except for me and the man beside me. I didn’t know where the other four men had gone. But what I knew was that this man wasn’t my buyer. He was just his representative. I still hadn’t met the man who bought me, and I didn’t know where he was.

“It doesn’t matter; he’ll find out, and I’ll take care of everything,” he said as he guided me closer to the car.

This might be my last chance...

Once I got in, I knew I wouldn’t have another opportunity.

So, when the man was distracted as he opened the door, I pushed his arm, which had been holding me tightly all this time. I immediately ran as fast as I could to escape, even though I didn’t know where I was running to.

Unfortunately, within a few steps, the man managed to grab me and drag me back toward the car. I screamed and panicked as the car door was opened, and someone inside pulled me firmly, as if he knew I was about to escape.

He wore a mask, and I... recognized him as the man who had made the offer for me at the auction.

Oh God, so he’s been here all along?

“Who hurt your eye?” The man asked while touching my face.

I shrank away from him because I was terrified. The driver closed and locked the car door. Slowly, I felt the car start speeding away, leaving Monica’s brothel.

I didn’t know where I was going, but one thing I knew was that this man owned me now—owned my body.

“I... I beg you, let me go.” I clasped my hands in front of my chest, pleading with the man.

Monica had already told me that negotiating with the man who bought me might be much harder. To hell with that. I still had to do whatever I could.

“I’ll give you whatever you want if you let me go. This is a misunderstanding. I shouldn’t be here.” I could feel the tears starting to flow.

Since earlier, everyone had kept talking about the wound on my eye as if it were a big deal. I couldn’t feel anything now, not even sure how messed up I was.

“I bought you, and it’s clear I want your body. So, what will you offer in exchange?”

I furrowed my brow when I realized I was becoming somewhat familiar with this voice. It felt like I had heard it somewhere, but I wasn’t sure because... because it couldn’t be possible.

“I beg you. My mother is sick, and I... I’m married.” I said this even though I wasn’t sure of my own status. The man hadn’t even come to help me when I needed him. And I knew I shouldn’t expect anything from that damn marriage. What could I expect from a man who didn’t even show up on his wedding day?

I took a deep breath when I realized the man beside me had fallen silent after hearing my confession.

Maybe this is my chance...

“I’m married, and I have a husband. I’m not a bad woman. I... I have a husband.” I repeated my explanation. “It was a misunderstanding, and... my father brought me here. You asked who hurt my eye?” I swallowed hard, but I still tried to continue explaining. “He had someone force me here, then they beat me until I passed out. I beg you, let me go and let me go home. I need to see my mother and... my husband.”

I didn’t understand why I mentioned the last word. It all suddenly popped into my head, and I said it without thinking twice.

“Oh, so you still remember your husband, it seems.” The man chuckled. “If you remember him, can you still not recognize his voice, Cassandra?”

My heart raced.

All the possibilities in my mind were spinning quickly, filling me with fear.

I felt as though something had fallen and shattered my thoughts when the man beside me removed his mask and threw it at his feet. He looked at me with his black eyes and a face that seemed harsh, full of emotion.

My body trembled instantly as his hand reached out to touch my face again.

“You know what?” He murmured softly, “I don’t know exactly how you ended up here, but I’ll find out soon. However, what I do know is that I’m going to break the arm of the man who dared to lay his hand on my wife.” Mr. Alexavier said seriously.

Cassandra’s POVI still shook my head vigorously when I heard what the woman in front of me said.Among all the nightmares I’ve endured because of my father, I could tell tonight the worst one.“Usually, I’m not this kind to others. But you look so pitiful, so I’m making an offer.” The woman shrugged. “When I started this business, my network wasn’t as large as it is now, so 20 thousand dollars for a woman was impossible. But I can guarantee you that all the guests who come have more than enough money to buy a woman. If they don’t have that much, of course, they’ll choose to sleep with an ordinary woman who can be rented at a lower price. They’re prostitutes who are no longer that attractive. All the women auctioned here are high-quality. So the customers are more interested in the auction at my place.”“I’m married,” I shook my head, “I don’t have that kind of quality.” At least, I knew they’d probably prefer to buy a virgin woman for a fantastic price. The problem is, I just lost my

Cassandra’s POVI might have to crown this week as the most chaotic week of my life. However, it turns out there’s still one more mess waiting for me in the daylight when I had just stepped out of my room to refill my glass with water.“Mom, I think we need to go to the doctor.” I looked at my mother with worry as I noticed her face growing even paler, her breathing becoming heavier.Among all the problems I have, I have to admit that the hardest one for me is seeing my mother suffer from her illness while I can’t do much.“I am fine, Cassie.” My mother closed her eyes and squeezed my hand. “We don’t have much money lately, so you need to be more frugal.”“How could I think about being frugal when you’re sick?” I looked at her in frustration.I found out that my father still hadn’t sent me any money even though he was supposed to, according to our agreement. That man… he must be doing this on purpose, just like he always does.“I know you’re in trouble now, which is why you’re not wor

Christopher's POVAfter Cassandra ran away from my house, I sent someone to follow her. I also sent a taxi for her because I knew she didn’t have money and didn’t bring her phone. She left her phone and her bag in my car. So, I also sent those items to her house after installing GPS on both of her phones.“You did it, right?” Dexon, who had been sitting quietly across from me, now spoke after a medic finished wrapping the wound on my neck.“Did what?”There are so many possible meanings for that damn question, and I didn’t want to fall into a trap.“Telling her,” Dexon frowned. “You told her you’re her husband.”“Oh,” I nodded.“What do you think I was asking?” He asked again.I ignored the question and chose to focus on the GPS of the taxi Cassandra was riding. She actually went home, not stopping by a bar like she used to do when she was frustrated.“Franco messed everything up. I want you to handle his work while I figure out what to do with him.”“You’re not thinking of killing hi

“Cassie,” Franco's voice echoed again, and the only thing I could do was cry. From the way he looked at me, I could tell he had figured everything out. The conclusion was spinning in his head, and I could see it so clearly.“Franco, it’s not what you think,” I stepped forward while Franco stepped back as if he didn’t want me to come any closer. That fact hurt me even more.I knew he felt disgusted with me.“Where were you last night?” he asked, his jaw clenched and his sharp gaze piercing me like a knife.“I…” I couldn’t find an answer. I was at this house when I first opened my eyes, and that alone answered the question of where I was last night.“I searched for you all night, trying to call you, but you were nowhere to be found. I spent the entire night looking for you at clubs and just caused a scene there because I couldn’t find you. I even went to your mother’s house to check if you’d gone home. I did all of that because I was worried about you, damn it!” He shouted so loudly tha

Cassandra’s POVWhen I first woke up from my sleep, I furrowed my brow as I felt a strange pain in my private area.I hadn’t fully opened my eyes yet, but I could feel warmth on my back. And this usually didn’t happen... and it shouldn’t have happened.I quickly opened my eyes because a suspicion made me want to find out what had really happened. As soon as my eyes opened, I swear I wanted to scream when I realized that I wasn’t waking up in my room like I was supposed to. I woke up in a completely foreign place... one that, unfortunately, I clearly remembered because I had been in this situation a month ago. That fact alone wasn’t shocking enough; I was further startled by the movement behind me, along with the sound of a man softly snoring.Oh God...I didn’t dare turn my body now...However, when an arm moved around my waist, I could feel our skin touching directly under the blanket, and that led me to the realization that I... was naked.No...No...“What am I doing here?!” I coul

She covered her face and cried under me while the only thing I could do was freeze without knowing what to do now. This was my first time sleeping with a virgin. I had her first experience when she was drunk, and it was crazy. I'm sorry that she might forget this incident like she did before.Oh, I won't let her forget it then.“Open your eyes, Cassandra.” I kissed her eyelids once more. She obeyed like a puppy. Honestly, I’m here because of his mistake, too.“I didn’t leak her plan to party with Franco just to see you sitting here all night, Chris,” he complained again.“I don’t give a shit about that,” I said, drinking from my glass before pouring more.My decision to skip going to the office wasn’t enough to stop me from coming here and secretly watching Cassandra as she got drunk on the second floor.“It’s so funny how you’re watching her here like a jealous husba

Cassandra’s POVAfter work, I usually spend time with my mom before falling asleep out of sheer exhaustion. But tonight, I decided to do something different. I... didn’t know how to escape all of this and ended up choosing the most foolish thing I’ve ever done.“You need this drink to refresh yourself!” Franco said, walking toward me with a glass he got from the bartender. We were at one of the biggest nightclubs in New York. Don’t even ask how crowded it was—this place was like an ocean of people, with music pounding loudly. Franco had seated me at one of the sofas upstairs—a semi-private spot on the second floor that wasn’t too crowded. From here, I could see the dance floor, where hundreds of people were dancing freely.“I think I do,” I nodded, accepting the drink he handed me. “Is this alcoholic?” I brought the rim of the glass to my nose, grimacing slightly at the strong smell of alcohol.“Of course!” Franco poured more alcohol from a bottle into his glass, drinking it casually.
