Eve's POV

"I am married to your father" I told him and he stopped walking and turned to look at me.

"What? What nonsense did you just spew out of your mouth?" 

I sniffed but tears wouldn't stop rolling down my cheek.

"He came to my house and asked for my hand in marriage"

"My Dad will never do such a thing" He fired.

"But I'm saying the truth.."

"Are you stupid? An old man came to ask for your hand in marriage and you gave in just like.. are you dumb? No, you must be. You should be in high school right now!"

He still didn't believe me.

"I swear.. Your Dad promised to take care of my Dad and I if only I get married to him.. Dad has heart issues and the doctor demanded for a lot of money but there's no way we could get that amount.. I can't even further my education. I had no choice" I rushed my words.

He gave me a stern look and didn't say anything for a while.

"I... I'm not a whore... And I didn't know he actually brought me here to..." He cut in sharply.

"Do you think I believe all what you just said? Oh really...ah!" He walked away and I broke down to give a very good cry.

How long am I going to do this?

How long am I going to regret my actions and cry over and over again?

I stood up and went to my room.. sluggishly.

I didn't come out of my room till some hours later, it was now a clear morning....plus I left the room because I was hungry.

I walked down the stairs quietly as I prayed not to have another ugly encounter with Liam.

I didn't see him around, so I just went to the kitchen to cook and of course I made sure it was enough for Liam and I.

He might probably forgive me when he finds out I'm a good person and a good cook. Jeez.

Immediately the meal was ready, I didn't still eat right away instead I dished out Liam's meal and arranged it in an attractive way in a tray then I climbed the stairs again to give him in his room.

"Li..am" I knocked on the door but there wasn't any response.

"Liam"

"I cooked breakfast already" I said then turned the door knob..

"I'm sorry for not waiting for your response before entering.. ..." It then drawn to me that no one was in the room.

"Liam" I called his name again as I dropped the tray on a stool.

When there wasn't any sign of his presence, I came out of his room and walk down the stairs and I continued to call his name.

"Liam"

But still no response..

I came out of the house, 

"Are you looking for Liam?" The Gate keeper, Robert asked me.

"Yes please" I responded.

"He already drove back to school. Didn't he inform you before he left?" He asked me and I shook my head.

"No he didn't" I muttered.

"When did he leave?" I asked him.

"Not quite long"

"Ohh" I wanted to ask when he would be back but then I remember he was a college student and I heard him say the last time he came home was about four months ago.

Which means I may not be seeing him for a very long time.

I heaved, at least he didn't leave the house because of me not even because of what I told him this morning.

"By the way, My name is Robert" The gate keeper introduced himself to me.

"Eve" I told him and was about to leave before he would ask more questions about me.. like why am I here? Who am I? Helen and Liam did the same thing.

I lied to Helen, but I know she will find out the truth and she'ld be so disappointed in me just like Liam whom I told the whole truth, yet he hates me the more and he still didn't believe me.

"Oops! Someone is at the gate! That should be Madame Theresa" Robert exclaimed.. 

"Who is Madame Theresa?" I asked but he already ran towards the gate to open it.

A chubby beautiful woman walked in, Robert greeted her then led her to the house, literally where I stood.

Who is this woman? His Wife? Liam must have called the attention of his mom which means that Mr Maya lied to me that Liam's mom is dead.

Or is this one of Mr Maya's concubines.

I trembled as the woman and Robert got closer...

"She is from Mr Maya" I heard Robert say to the woman and she smiled.

"Hello beautiful young girl" The chubby woman said to me and I bowed my head in respect..

"Errm.. Good morning Ms..." I tried not to stammer.

"Mr Maya must have gone to his office" The woman said and I nodded and glared at Robert, for him to tell me who she was.

"Nanny" Robert muttered.

"Nanny, what do you mean Nanny?" I muttered.

"I'm the maid. I would just do my thing and leave " The woman said and walked into the house.

"Why do the maid and cook come here and leave? Why do they not stay here like you do?" I asked Robert.

"Madame Theresa is married. She has a husband and children are waiting for her at home while Helen once lived here, she left few days ago to live in the quarters, that's another apartment owned by Mr Maya" Robert explained to me.

"Okay?"

"Uhh... Who else? Are there any worker I am yet to know and meet?" I asked him.

"No" He said with a smile.

"But you would get to meet Mr Maya's visitors too" He added.

The whores and concubines he pays off?

"...I... I mean his colleagues at work, his business partners" Robert suddenly said as if he knew what I was thinking of.

"And Mark, Mr Maya's other son.. He is way different from Liam. He is cool and easygoing" 

I smiled softly and wondered why he is also eager to tell me about all this. 

Maybe I am not the one way Liam is hostile to.., Of course, Helen shunned him yesterday.

"Thank you Robert" I said then went back into the house, he didn't even ask me the questions I was expecting..instead he answered my question regarding the people I'm yet to meet as if he knew that I'm oblivious to this new environment and family.

Madame Theresa was about to go upstairs with the cleaning equipments and her hands in gloves.

"May.. I.. help you with it?" I asked her.

"What? No" She said when I was just about to collect the equipments from her and I didn't hesitate.

I personally think we don't know need a maid nor a cook, it's something I easily can handle all by myself but since it's a rich man house, I don't think I have a choice.

I went to the kitchen to get my breakfast.., then moved to dining room to eat, I couldn't hold the hunger anymore.

When I was done consuming the initial filled plate, I remember I dropped Liam's Meal... In the room.

I rushed up the stairs to get it then I met Madame Theresa just coming out of the room with the tray in her hand.

"Has Helen been here already?" She asked me.

"No, I cooked that myself" I told her.

"Oh wow... Helen didn't inform me that she already retired... Didn't I advise her not to quit already?" The woman said.

"Huh what?" I asked her because I didn't understand what she was talking about. How was i supposed to understand?

"Nothing dear. I was only talking to myself. So are you a worker here? The new cook?" She asked me.

"Uhm... Well.." I stammared.

Gosh, I really don't wanna lie again because lie creates more lies.

"Don't worry, you are welcome dear. Mr Maya is a good man and that's if you are not too intimate with him" I could see it on her face, a mischievous smile with a warning look.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked her.

"You would get to find out soon but dear, don't be scared.

His grown up kids too are not around, so you've got nothing to worry about Okay?"

"Okay..." I muttered.

I didn't lie to her, she predicted herself that I might be a worker here.

"This is Liam's room, were you in there? Ask Mr Maya for any of the vacant room instead" She simply said that because of the meal she found in there.

"Have it" She handed it over to me.

"Do you want some?" I asked her.

"Ohh" She smiled.

"You can have it then" I said.

"Thank you dear. You are so nice"

"Well.." I bow my head and excuse her.

Madame Theresa left immediately she was done, and again.. I'm alone in the house, bored and doing nothing.

I perambulated around, looked at the window as if I was waiting for someone.

I also thought of my Dad and how to contact him because I was already missing him. Why do I feel like he is not safe whenever I'm not around. Probably because we have lived together for so long.

I miss Janet too, whenever I'm bored like this, she is always there for me.

 I just wanna talk to someone right now and stop feeling like I'm caged. 

Wait, Is it just me? Whenever I'm bored and lonely, I think of bad things that might or have happened to me.

I shook my head before a bad incident will niggle into my head especially the condition I am right now..(Married to an old billionaire)

I forced myself to think of something exciting, fun and I also tried to look forward to a good future.. wishing it's as easy as I just planned it in my head.

"I'll just go swim to cool down my head" I said to myself and stood up from the couch and headed to the door.

I'm a pretty good swimmer, thanks to Janet... she has forced me to outings and picnics with her and also indoor pool party at her place when her parents are away.

I opened the door only to see Helen standing right in front of me.

"Hey"

"I was just about to knock on the door or did you see me coming" She said and I shook my head..

"Ohh... it was coincident!" I let her in.

"I'm sorry I came here late" She apologised..

"Uhnn.. sorry? What do you mean you are sorry?" I asked her.

I thought she said she only come here whenever any one of them put a call to her.

"Mr Maya just called me now. He said you do not have my contact which I'm gonna give to you before I leave. And there's no way you can reach me to prepare you breakfast. Now it's almost lunch.. I'm so sorry" She explained walking to the kitchen already.

"I have already eaten.. I cooked myself. You don't have to worry about me Helen.. I can take very good care of myself" I told her.

"Are you sure about that?" 

"Yeah, sure. What about Robert? Did you give him something to eat?"

"Urrh Robert, I didn't"

"As far as he lives here, he is part of the family. I served him dinner yesterday. Oh I didn't let you know about it" She said.

"Oh My God, he didn't say anything.. He must have starved..." I panicked.

"Well he is a guy and he usually sorts himself out when I'm absent"

"I didn't sort myself out this time around" Robert came in, obviously he was eavesdropping.

"Oh Robert, I'm sorry" I apologised to him.

"Uh... I was only joking" He smiled in a jovial way.

"I actually got used to eating whenever Mr Maya's around" He said..

"I told you Eve" Helen said and I gave a small smile.. then it drawn to me that I rappoled with the two of them like we were friends.

"Has your cousin gone back to school?" Helen asked me.

"What? What cousin are you talking about?" I asked her, I've totally forgotten that I lied to her that Liam is my cousin... I mean, I know I lied but about being Liam's cousin is what I didn't remember telling her.

"Liam, she is talking about Liam!" Robert reminded me.

"Oh Liam!" I almost stuttered and she looked at me with a puzzle look.

I looked at Robert, puzzled too, I mean how did he even know Helen was referring to Liam?

Robert is acting strange too.

"Is Liam really your cousin? It doesn't look it " Helen asked me as folded her hands she came closer to me.

"Errr....." I stuttered..

"Yes, Liam is her cousin" Robert said.

"Why are the two of you lying to me? It's scribbled boldly on Eve's face that Liam is not her cousin neither is she related to the family" Helen said..

Oops..

"Okay, no you are right, Liam is not her cousin. Eve just go heard and tell her who you really are" I looked at Robert.

So he knows who really I am.

"I don't think we would ever be good friends.. You are being so secretive and a liar already!" Helen fired at me.

"Who are you? What are doing here? A worker or what? Just say it?" She quaried.. not being respectful or nice to me the way she was yesterday and earlier when she just came in..

"I... I... am..." I stammared.

"I swear Helen, I didn't mean to lie to you yesterday. I also want to be your friend but..." She interrupted me.

"Just tell me already.. I might have a reason why I really wanna know what you are doing here?" She said.. reducing her voice and being calm with me now.

"I.... I am Mr Maya's wife" I finally confessed.

"She is Mr Maya's Wife" Robert said at the same time with me..
