Chapter 16

Elena got dressed and waited for Liam downstairs in the hotel lobby. She was in a purple gown and cover shoes, the traditional secretary way. She smiled at herself.

Her face dampened when she heard the familiar thud of footsteps walking towards her. She knew those sounds.

Liam appeared at the door, and Elena sucked in air at the sight of him. He was in sparkling white three-piece suits and his hair was curled up quite prettily.

Elena was ready to begin her apology.

"Good morning, sir," she said, reaching out to take his briefcase and outer coat, but he brushed past her and made straight for the car. A convoy of seven black cars was lined up, waiting for them.

Elena stood there for a while, her hands still stretched out. Her mind could hardly grapple with the humiliating reaction from her boss. Finally, she collected herself and walked to Liam's car, sitting in the back with him. For a second, she entertained a fear that he'd ask her to get out of the car. But gratefully, he didn't.
