MasukBrittany's POV
I jumped out of the car as soon as we got home and headed straight into the house, struggling along with my wedding dress. Thankfully, a few maids came to help me out at the doorstep. The house servants were lined up horizontally in the sitting room, obviously waiting for my presence. Their heads fell into a deep bow once they saw me whilst I halted my steps, only when I got in fully and a few meters from them. The two maids behind joined the rest. They remained like that for a while until the oldest one among them—a woman spoke up. “Congratulations madam on your married life. We've been expecting you for a while, and we hope our services would always make you happy. You're welcome home, My Lady.” A bright smile remained on her lips even when she finished. She looked beautiful for an old lady, probably ranging from fifties to sixties. Her hair which was partly gray was rolled up in a ponytail, and it matched perfectly with her looks; pretty. With her outfit and demeanor, she seemed like the head maid and her good coordination amazed me. “We'll take you up to your room.” She signalled the same maids from earlier and two other to escort me. They did, assisting with my dress as usual and until we got to the room, I remained wowed. Even if I wasn't in good terms with the mansion's owner, I wouldn't pretend to not see the wonderful interior designs. I was a person who was usually so keen about her environment and people who were close to me knew that. “Is this your boss's room?” It was the first thing I asked immediately the room's interior came into view. Unlike the other parts of the house, this room was much too manly and I suspected it was Ace's room. “Yes, My Lady.” One of the maids nodded feebly. “Why did you bring me here? I thought I was getting my room.” I turned to the four maids in the room and raised a brow. Their heads fell in a bow at once and none said anything for a while, almost getting me pissed off. Their expression told me how scared they had become. “Will someone answer my question? Why did you bring me here? And I hope this isn't where my things are kept.” I asked the last question as per my certainty. Bringing me here could only mean they had arranged my clothes in Ace's closet. Besides, I had sighted some cosmetics on the desk which I solely believed were mine. Finally, one of them replied, “Your family made this arrangement. They clearly asked us to put your things in his room as you both should share the same room.” “By family, you mean my dad?” I asked the obvious but none of them answered again. It was probably due to their fear. Goodness! That man never ceased to amaze me. He really chased me down to this mansion, even when I had granted his request. I really hoped he didn't place a spy on me. As a low sigh escaped my lips, no words were said again, and I walked to sit at the edge of the bed. I'll just endure for the night then iron it out with Ace later on. But it was definitely going to be hard, I couldn't even stand him in the car, that I summoned earlier for my car and driver. “I need help to take off this dress.” Two of the maids came to me and one zipped down the dress whilst the other assisted. “There is nothing else to do, so you can all leave.” I uttered whilst holding my dress tight to my body to prevent it from falling off. It was a strapless dress whose upper part relied mainly on the zip. “We still have to prepare your bath, My Lady.” One of the maids beside me voiced out. “Fine, do what you want.” I replied and fell on my back to the bed, leaving them to do as they pleased. They all left and I sat up instantly. Ace's cologne on the mattress was so strong that it began to intoxicate my sense of thinking. The maids would definitely change this before I would lie on it again. Just then, two consecutive knocks came on the main door. “Come in.” The door pushed open, and a maid walked in with an envelope in her hand. “This was delivered early this morning, and it was for you and the young master.” Her head was in a slight bow as she stretched out the envelopes, and I accepted the envelope with furrowed brows. “Alright.” She left the room after one last bow then I opened the envelope, reading it through. Almost immediately, I released a scoff that expressed my annoyance. This was much expected, especially from dad, but I didn't understand why it brought in another surge of anger within me? If dad could forcefully get me married despite being aware of certain things, then who was he not to prepare a stupid honeymoon? He even sent tickets on the wedding day. How disheartening! √√√√√√√√ THE NEXT MORNING “Good morning ma.” It was all that filled the air as soon as I stepped into the company's building. Many had smiles on their faces, but all weren't my business as I believed the smiles were just a facade to get in my good books. Unfortunately, it was the worst they had ever done. “Good morning ma.” Clarissa, my secretary said walking to me with a few other people behind her. One of them collected my bag and I walked past them all. They followed behind me, with just Clarissa walking by my side and trying to keep my pace. Our movement was slowly halted by a person I had preferred not to see for the rest of the day. Her presence was an obstruction to many of us, but she only smiled like she had done well. “Hello, big sis.” Lora called out in her usual casual tone. Only I and a few people like my mother and secretary knew the deep hatred that was usually depicted for me through that voice. She was like a force to be reckoned with, and I was extremely ready to treat her to what she deserved.~~ Brittany's POV ~~A gentle knock at the door shifted my attention for a moment."Come in.""Good morning ma'am." Clarissa walked in seconds later. "I hope you took care of yesterday's emergency." She dropped a mug of piping, steaming espresso on my desk.I muttered a 'thank you' while taking the coffee to my lips. It lingered there for a while before I took a sip."Yes, I was able to handle the emergency." I responded, my mind drifting back to yesterday's scene. Before I left the office in a hurry, it was an emergency I had told her. But turned out the situation was more than an emergency. Almost a deadly situation that shook every being in me if not handled quickly.Until now, I still found it so strange that Ace had found me there. Even if he said it was just a coincidence, something in my gut didn't believe it. I only decided not to push it.At that moment, protecting my daughter's identity was what mattered. Despite not getting my answers. Despite still being in the dark of who
~~ Brittany's POV ~~"I'm sorry for the way I judged you. I was so desperate to find Emma and had become too anxious when I found her with you, so I didn't think before reacting."Thanks to the little boy whom I believed was the same age as Emma and probably in the same class. He had quickly explained that Emma was standing all alone when they met her which was why they took her with them to find her guardian. But, when they couldn't find her, they thought to contact her through the school. It was in that moment that I arrived.Emma also agreed that everything was true, so I made sure I wasn't tricked."It's fine. Everyone reacts differently especially when anxiousness sets in." She replied, holding a cup of coffee. After the small commotion outside, we were seated in a small coffee shop where I wanted to get to know her better. As I had said earlier, she had looked quite suspicious when I first caught her watching Ace from a distance, and I was sure she also saw me that day."You st
~~ Brittany's POV~~I gripped the wheels tightly as I stomped on the brakes, my heart racing like hell. My hands vibrated silently when I pushed the car door open and my legs shook as I stepped out of the car and raced towards her, my daughter's nanny."What happened to my daughter? How did she get missing?" I asked immediately I came to face her, my voice almost failing me."Ma'am." She called anxiously, as if my presence startled her and the look in her eyes said it all. But, I was more anxious than she was. What she had called to tell me over the phone this evening was quite disturbing and since then, it has kept me on my toes."We had come here after school to get ice cream but I had to make urgent use of the restroom and I asked her to wait for me." She sucked in a shaky breath. "When I returned, she was no longer here and I've been looking all over for her since then." The last words came out almost as a whisper, as she avoided my gaze.A frustrated sigh left my lips instantly.
~~ Ace's POV ~~People say a mother's love is unconditional. A mother is the best in the world. I mean I used to be part of those people. A five-year-old boy who loved his mother even more than he loved himself. Those phrases, especially the last one, were words I grew used to saying as a child. It all began with saying 'I love you' as a toddler to the only woman I so much cherished back then. Then, gradually the words extended as I grew older. But did that last? Everything changed when I clocked five. The woman whom I thought was my only source of joy and hope left me in ruins. Leaving me behind with a newborn baby was not just the only painful experience, but she also had me on my deathbed. As if ruining the family she once cherished wasn't enough, she ran away with another man to only God knows where. My dad had tried different ways to find her but all efforts were to no avail. But now, she dared to come back despite the terrible things she'd done?I wasn't the only one affecte
~~ Ace's POV ~~'Bing'My phone vibrated in my pocket as soon as I stepped out of my father-in-law's ward. I brought it out to a text from my lawyer while making my way out of the hallway. As I promised that bastard who attempted murder on Brittany's life, I wasn't going to take things lightly with him. Even if he hired one of my best attorneys, he wouldn't be able to escape the consequences of his crimes. After going through the text from my lawyer, the next text that popped up was from my Dad's secretary. My Dad was demanding yet another dinner that wouldn't yield anything. This time, he wanted me to bring Charlotte as well even if it was forcefully.I scoffed out, slipping my phone back inside my pocket. It was quite frustrating going through the same thing over and over again, especially with Dad. I knew his major reason for calling for a family dinner was that he wasn't satisfied with our conversation earlier today.Dad could set anything up just to get things done his own way.
~~ Brittany's POV ~~Running down to the hospital, Mom was the first person I saw when I reached the VIP ward. She was standing beside Dad, staring into nothingness. Not until, the door slid open and I walked in. Surprisingly, Dad was still lying on the bed, the machines beeping loudly as always and the usual oxygen mask on his face as he had never woken from a coma."What happened, Mom? Why is Dad still lying unconscious?" I asked as I stood beside her, staring between her and my Dad.That was when I noticed the difference. His eyes were opened. But why wasn't he moving?"He's awake but still can't respond to external stimuli. The doctors said he is in a vegetative state and will need a few days or weeks to recover." Mom replied, as if reading my mind and I froze for a moment before I let out a low breath. She patted my shoulder, studying my worried expression more. "The doctors assured us he'll be fine, and that's what we hope for." I nodded and glanced at her. She was also trying
