LOGINBrittany's POV
“Just like that?” Mom seemed shocked after I had narrated everything to her, and she couldn't help but to ask for the second time. This time, I only nodded whilst gulping down the chilled mocktail to swallow down my anger. “Then that's good news. Now that we have the ball in our court, there's nothing to worry about anymore. But, I hope you've told him when the wedding would take place. You know, it's a day after tomorrow, right?” She uttered, raising her brows at the end of her statement. Damn it! I almost thought I was forgetting something when I left his office. “You mean you didn't?” Mom scoffed out and I just shrugged. I froze for a second before glancing at her slowly and I guessed she understood my message instantly because her look said it all. “It's in the contract, he doesn't need to hear it from me.” Those words came out seconds later to conceal my little incompetence. Besides, I could send a message across to him when my secretary goes to pick up the contract tomorrow. “If you say so but know better not to mess this up again.” “I won't.” I replied simply as I signalled for another glass of mocktail from a maid. She granted my request in a jiffy and I continued from where I stopped gulping. All to just cool my head off this marriage stuff. What I clearly didn't want to happen was happening before me a day after tomorrow and I couldn't do anything to stop it except to follow along. Mom was the sole mastermind behind all these. If she hadn't called me this morning to use the alternative of a contract she had drafted at the beginning of this marriage arrangements, then we wouldn't be here now. At first, I was unsettled as just a contract wouldn't fix anything between Ace and me. Our relationship had become too broken to be mended, but mom wouldn't stop giving reasons the marriage should work. Definitely, I reasoned with her because we were both pursuing the same thing—the company. If I eventually got married to Ace like dad wanted, then I wouldn't have to worry about competing against my half-sister, Lora. She would do anything to gain points from dad, and would use this as a chance to ruin my mother and me - like she'd always wanted. Lora's mother used to be my father's mistress until she met her end, a few years after Lora was born. Even when she was just a mistress, I remembered how she'd always managed to get my father on her side, despite how she was the problem. Lora wasn't any different from her mother even when I was a few years older than her and for that very reason, I'd vowed never to lose anything to her. She was only an illegitimate child of the Anderson's and would remain that way except if she found something meaningful to do with her life. Just then, mom's phone rang. “It's the wedding planner.” She said when I shot her a glance. “You can proceed with the plans. It'll still take place as said, so make it glamorous like the previous one.” “Yeah, bye.” “Not glamorous, please. Just something simple.” I corrected immediately mom put down her phone, but she only glanced at me and didn't say anything. “Now that everything is going smoothly, you should apologize to your father and let him know you're ready to get married as planned.” She said instead and nudged me when I didn't reply. “Okay.” I muttered after a while then took a sip of my mocktail. The vexation in me was expressed through my tone, and mom only heaved a sigh, before resting back on her seat. “Mom?” I suddenly called her attention to me once again, and she responded with a gaze. “Never use my secret against me….” I turned to face her partly before proceeding with my voice low, “you promised.” I suddenly remembered I wanted to correct something with her — one of the reasons I visited instead. She'd used a secret of mine to threaten me earlier today — something I didn't want known to anyone, except for she, of course. She stood up from her seat, “I wouldn't if you don't make me.” Then she left the garden. ~~~~~~~~✓✓✓✓✓ Authoress POV It was the wedding day today but unlike the previous wedding that took place, this was much scanty. Although, people showed up for the ceremony, it didn't bloom like the first one because this was done as per what Brittany wanted and of course, she didn't want it be glamorous like the first one. “It was better not to waste more materials.” She had told everyone who wished to listen when she was asked the reason. “You know what to do, right?” Brittany's dad had asked before taking his daughter up to meet the groom on the altar. “Yes.” Brittany replied nonchalantly. The vows and rings were exchanged within a short time and when it finally got to the kissing part, Brittany tried not to smack his face hard. As much as she loved the kiss, she couldn't bring herself to admit it, obviously from the much hatred she had for him. Ace, on the other hand, wished he didn't stop but like Brittany, he was unable to admit it. Finally, they were done at the altar, and they didn't hesitate to walk down the aisle, holding hands like they meant it. Just like Mr. Anderson, Brittany's father had been anticipating their presence too much, he gave Brittany a go ahead to approach the reporters outside. Ace also understood the signal and walked his bride outside, where the paparazzi gathered immediately they were seen. Brittany heaved a low sigh before she began, “I'm so sorry everyone for all the worries, anger, and drama I put you into. Actually, there was a misunderstanding that other day and I overreacted because I was ignorant of the situation, but after my darling husband explained everything with the help of the family, I realized I was at fault........” There was a short pause as she grabbed Ace much closer to her, and he didn't fail to hold her waist. Brittany's anger was brewing inside already, especially since she had to do this, but none seemed to understand except her mother who was standing behind them. Only she knew how hard it was for Brittany to practice and perfect those words. “So, here I am, saying I'm sorry to all who showed me their sympathy.” She finished with a feigned look of guilt on her face. “Does that mean, you lied with the arranged marriage stuff?” A female reporter asked. “No, I didn't. This is a marriage which fully has Ace and I's support. You could call it arranged because our family discussed it first, but later realized we were also having it planned. I hope that has cleared up the misunderstanding.” She wrapped up her speech as she finally walked through the midst of the multitude of reporters with Ace by her side, and didn't stop smiling until they were inside the luxurious Lamborghini—a wedding gift from both of their fathers.~~ Brittany's POV ~~I couldn't be more shocked tonight. Was it when I first heard my name called out by the emcee? Or when Ace urged me to go on that stage? Was it when I walked to the podium? Or when I sealed a deal worth $150 billion? A long-term partnership I had always yearned for but failed to get despite my hard work. Then, all of a sudden, I found myself in front of hundreds of business profiles as part of the partnership. I received applause and credit for everything, despite doing nothing.Immediately after the event ended, I felt utterly smothered. Literally everyone congratulated me. Some of which I knew were not genuine. But I was too overly excited to give meaning to whatever motive was behind their fake congratulations. Besides, it was something I'd learnt while growing up. When I finally needed Ace by my side, he was nowhere to be seen until Alex told me he was with his Dad on one of the top floors. And that was how my mood got ruined by Elvira."Don't pay attention
~~ Ace's POV I watched as my father stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, staring into the dark yet night that glistened with lights everywhere. Yet I knew the neutral expression I had managed to mirror on his face contradicted the rage that burned inside of him.The event had only just ended when he called me into this suite on the top floor. But for over twenty minutes, he hadn't spoken a word since we got there. And it made the atmosphere slightly awkward. I expected him to yell as usual. Rant like never before while I gave him a piece of my mind. After what seemed like forever, he eventually turned to face me, his eyes glowing with anger, as I presumed. But his face held something else. Something I barely understood.“Go back downstairs. We can't leave our guests without a goodbye.” He walked to the dark leather opposite me.“What?”“Make sure none of our business partners leaves the event feeling upset.”I stood there, shocked at his words. His facial expression was di
~~ Ace's POV ~~ "You must be so proud to have a competent son who can run the company without issues, Chairman. Not only did he bring home a trophy wife to increase the company's infrastructure, but he keeps closing deals and even bringing more golden collaborations that could make the company more unstoppable." Laughter erupted in the air immediately. My father was enjoying most of the entire conversation with a boastful smile smeared across his face. "Yes. That's why a son is so important. They are the ones fit for these things." My Father, the chairman responded still with that smug look, a look that mostly looked down on everyone else. I suddenly wished to be everywhere but there, just like Brittany who had managed to slip out of our midst when she went to attend to some acquaintance from her company. From where I stood, I could watch her every movement. Just as she had gracefully gotten out of that car outside, my eyes couldn't leave her from that moment onward. I studie
The ride to the exquisite hall was as silent and quiet as a graveyard. Except for the low humming of the car and the mellow, low-pitched sound of the tires against the tiled road as we drove, everything else felt awkward.Shantel sat in the front seat, her side of the window open as she stared outside, completely resting on her seat. She hadn't said a word to me since our intense bicker on the back porch of the house. Throughout the reapplication and readjustment of my makeup, it felt so uncomfortable looking her in the eyes most times while we said nothing to each other.Unlike our first makeup session where everything felt at ease. And every conversation came with smiles and laughter.Charlotte, on the other hand, sat next to me in the backseat and I knew she had quite a lot to say to us - Shantel and me. Especially me. But she was barely withholding on while pretending to type away on her phone. I felt her constantly stealing glances at us while she thought I wasn't looking. Or ra
If it had been in the past, I would have no worries. It would have been a normal thing. But this was the present Charlotte we were talking about. The same Charlotte who never failed to show how much she despised me. Who believed I did so many wrongs to her brother. Even when I still didn't know what I did wrong."You didn't even say a 'thank you'." She muttered, breaking away from my gaze. "This would have been less awkward."I was dumbfounded. Wondering why she changed all of a sudden when I saw Shantel coming out of the house. She was completely dressed, her curly hair bouncing behind her as she walked. Red heels to match the royal blue dress that stopped above her knees and a red clutch by her right hand. But rather than the calm and cool-headed Shantel I left behind, she looked furious. Infuriated. Rather disappointed. Betrayed. And I felt all the emotions were directed towards me.When she saw us, she tried to mask her emotions. Maybe because she saw Charlotte standing beside me.
~~ Brittany's POV ~~ I stared at the huge dressing mirror in front of me, face blank. Contrary to the beautiful figure in a dazzling black stone dress. Off shoulder dress, long enough to touch the glassy floor underneath me. I was looking far beyond the physical appearance that stared back at me in an expression that clearly explained one thing - worry. My last conversation with Emma didn't stop ringing in my ears. "Mummy, who is my father?" "Where is he? And why isn't he with us?" Days had passed yet those words still lingered in my mind like a memory meant to haunt and taunt me in every possible way until I gave way to its demands. I barely did any work for the past few days without the words crossing my mind. And when it did, it gave me the fear of the unknown. I knew it wasn't unexpected. In fact, I had expected the question from her for a long time, and it had become my constant fear. Was it on her second year birthday? The birthday afterwards? I think the fear crept in a

~~ Brittany's POV ~~"I'm sorry for the way I judged you. I was so desperate to find Emma and had become too anxious when I found her with you, so I didn't think before reacting."Thanks to the little boy whom I believed was the same age as Emma and probably in the same class. He had quickly explai
~~ Brittany's POV~~I gripped the wheels tightly as I stomped on the brakes, my heart racing like hell. My hands vibrated silently when I pushed the car door open and my legs shook as I stepped out of the car and raced towards her, my daughter's nanny."What happened to my daughter? How did she get
~~ Brittany's POV ~~Running down to the hospital, Mom was the first person I saw when I reached the VIP ward. She was standing beside Dad, staring into nothingness. Not until, the door slid open and I walked in. Surprisingly, Dad was still lying on the bed, the machines beeping loudly as always a
