SELENE

The dining room swallowed us the moment we stepped inside.

It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t dramatic. It was quiet in a way that made my skin prickle, like the room had already decided what I was before I opened my mouth.

Mr. Harris was seated at the far end, hands folded on the table, posture straight. He looked exactly how he always did. Calm. Unmoved. His face gave nothing away. Not approval. Not concern. Just presence.

Mireille sat at the head of the table.

She was composed in a way that felt deliberate. Hair smooth. Back straight. Hands resting lightly on the table as if they belonged there more than the table did. She didn’t rise. She didn’t smile. She watched us enter like she was observing a process already in motion.

Aunt Celeste sat beside her, angled slightly away, one arm draped over the chair. She looked relaxed. Almost amused. But her eyes were sharp, alert, tracking everything. The kind of look that pretended to be casual but missed nothing.

Uncle Voss sat next to Celes

SELENEIt had been days. Not dramatic days. Not the kind where doors slammed or voices broke. Just quiet ones. The kind that looked normal from the outside but felt wrong on the inside. The kind where we lived in the same house and somehow managed to miss each other in every room.We talked about small things. What time the driver would come. What to eat.Who called. What needed to be paid.Normal couple things. Practical things. Safe things. But not us.Not the space between us. Not the tension that sat in every silence. Not the way we both avoided the real conversation like it might actually finish something we weren’t ready to lose. And the longer it went on, the heavier it felt. Like carrying something fragile in my chest that I didn’t know how to put down without breaking it.That evening, I stood outside his study for a full minute before I knocked.I don’t even know why I hesitated. I lived there. I slept next to him. I knew every part of that house better than most people knew

  • Married To The Cruel Billionaire    Chapter 81

LEOI arrived earlier than usual that morning. Not because anyone asked me to. Not because I had to. I just woke up already alert, already dressed, already aware that something had shifted overnight and I didn’t want to be late to it.The parking lot was almost empty when I pulled in. A few executive cars. A couple of staff. Quiet, clean, controlled. Then I saw Adrien’s car.It was already moving.Backing out of its spot, smooth and slow like always. Same black car he’d driven for years. Same one everyone associated with him. I stayed still in my own car and watched it pass in front of me.He didn’t look my way.Maybe he didn’t see me. Maybe he did and chose not to. Either way, he drove out of the lot without hesitation. No pause. No second glance.Just… gone.I sat there for a few seconds longer than I needed to.This was supposed to be gradual. That had always been the plan in my head. Slow. Subtle. A few projects here and there. More meetings. More presence. Time.I didn’t expect i

ADRIENI walked into the building like I always did.Same entrance. Same guards at the door. Same woman at the front desk who smiled too fast when she saw me. Nothing looked different. That was the strange part. Everything was still in its place, still clean, still quiet in that controlled way.But everyone knew.I felt it before I really saw it. The way the air shifted. The way voices dipped when I passed. People pretending to be busy with screens they had already been staring at for ten minutes. A few heads lifted. A few didn’t. No one said anything. That silence was louder than anything they could have said.I nodded at the guards. They nodded back. Polite. Professional. Not warm.I took the elevator alone. That never happened.Usually someone from my team was already there. Talking about schedules. Numbers. Meetings. Today, no one. My assistant’s desk was empty when I passed. No tablet. No files. Just a message waiting on my phone.Go straight to Mr. Harris’s office. Not the board

  • Married To The Cruel Billionaire    Chapter 79

SELENEThe door opened close to midnight. Not slammed. Not rushed. Just the quiet sound of the lock turning and the door easing shut behind him.I didn’t move.I was sitting on the couch, exactly where I’d been for the past hour, my legs tucked under me, my phone face down on the table like it might burn me if I touched it again. He stood there for a second when he saw me.Jacket still on. Hair slightly messy. His shoulders looked tense, like he’d been holding them that way for too long and forgot how to relax them.He didn’t smile. He didn’t say my name.He just looked tired. The kind of tired that comes from more than a long day.“You’re up,” he said.“I was waiting.”That made something shift in his face. Not guilt exactly. More like he’d expected this moment and still hadn’t figured out what to do with it.He walked in slowly, set his keys on the counter, took off his jacket. Every move felt careful, like he didn’t want to make anything worse by moving too fast.I stayed where I w

  • Married To The Cruel Billionaire    Chapter 78

SELENEI was folding laundry when it happened. Not anything important. Just socks and one of Adrien’s shirts that I’d worn by accident the night before and hadn’t taken off until morning. I was standing in the bedroom, half watching some pointless video on my tablet, half thinking about nothing at all. That was the part that felt cruel later. That I was calm.My phone buzzed on the bed. Not a call. Not his name. Just the screen lighting up with a notification from a news app I barely used anymore.I almost ignored it.I picked it up because I thought it was about me.That’s the truth. I’d gotten used to it. Every alert, every message, every ping lately felt like it was about me. Another angle. Another clip. Another person with an opinion about something they didn’t understand. So when I saw the headline preview, my brain was already bracing.I expected my name.Instead, I saw his.“Adrien Harris assaults journalist at café.”I frowned at the screen like it didn’t make sense. Like the

  • Married To The Cruel Billionaire    Chapter 77

SELENEAdrien had been moving around for the last twenty minutes without settling. Not pacing exactly. Just doing small things that didn’t need to be done. Opening drawers. Closing them. Checking his phone, then locking it again. Standing still for a second like he’d forgotten what he was about to do.I was on the couch, pretending to read something I hadn’t absorbed in ten minutes. When he walked back into the living room with his jacket on, keys already in his hand, that’s when it clicked.“You’re going out?” I asked. He stopped for half a second. Not long enough to be obvious. Long enough for me to notice.“Yeah,” he said. “I need to handle something.”That word again. Handle.I put the tablet down. “Now?”He nodded. “It won’t be long.”I watched him instead of responding. The way his jaw was tight. The way he wasn’t looking at me. The way his body was already angled toward the door like the conversation was already over.“Where are you going?” I asked. He didn’t answer right away.
