Chapter

Brad's POV

We'll have to tighten the borders. I thought as I looked at the files on my desk.

This vampire case wasn't something we've heard of in decades. And with little information there was no way of telling what was their primary objective.

I pressed my palms into my temples, pushing as though I could squeeze out the answers. The throbbing in my head deepened, but the ache wasn’t only from frustration. A part of me, the part I didn’t want to admit existed, murmured a sharper truth.

What’s the point?

If I solved this Nathan would still be the one praised. All my late night sessions down the drain.

I shook my head hard, forcing that poison back. “No,” I muttered to the empty room. “I don’t want to be jealous.”

The truth was, jealousy wasn’t the only thing gnawing at me. It was something worse. Isolation.

Nathan was keeping secrets from me. I And Rosalia… she had grown cold. And that was just an understatement.

So who did I have left?

No one.

I was alone. Utterly, bitterly,

Rosalia's POV Nothing was ever going to be the same.“Thank you all for being here today” Nathan's voice cracked as he spoke. “Brad was an amazing person, his life shouldn't have been cut short. Words aren't enough to describe what a man he was. Even in his last moments he was selfless, he had a heart of gold and I hope we all replicate that, thank you”I could see how much it was tearing him apart, but he did his best to stay strong. The crowd dispersed as the ceremony came to an end. The only person left was Cleo, Nathan, his mother and I.“How did he die?” Cleo suddenly asked, she hadn't spoken since, like a statue she had remained put, her eyes fixed on his tombstone. My chest tightened as the words slipped out, “It was my fault.”She gave a dry, broken laugh, shaking her head as though she had expected nothing less. “I already knew that much,” she muttered bitterly, clutching her arms around herself. “I knew it. His love for you would kill him one day.”My knees felt like jelly

Rosalia's POV I dug my heels into the dirt, my arms screaming, my chest burning as I tried to pull Nathan up with everything left in me. My body trembled under the weight, sweat mixing with the cold rain, my lungs crying for air. Nathan’s hand gripped mine like a lifeline, his eyes wide with panic as Brad clung desperately to the branch beneath him.The wood groaned and cracked. I froze, my heart hammering.“Rosalia,” Nathan gasped, trying to keep his voice steady even as his own strength faltered, “hold on. Please. Don’t let go.”“I’m not letting go!” I shouted, teeth clenched as the muscles in my arms threatened to give out. Then I heard it—the sharp snap of the branch splintering. Brad’s gaze lifted, calm yet heartbreaking. He knew.“Don’t,” Nathan pleaded, his voice cracking. “Don’t you dare, Brad. Stay with me!”Brad gave him a strained smile, rain dripping down his pale face. “It’s okay, Nathan. You’ve carried me long enough.”“No! Don’t you dare talk like that!” Nathan’s voice

Chapter Rosalia's POV Nathan’s voice cut through the haze like a blade. “Rosalia I heard you. I know this isn’t you.”If I could have screamed, I would have. My entire body was locked, muscles stiff under Mael’s grip, but my soul rattled against the cage he built inside me. He’d wrapped my essence in chains, and every movement was his.Mael laughed with my mouth, sharp and cruel. “Oh, how touching. The loyal mate, hearing whispers through a bond he barely understands. Should’ve known she’d try something when she offered the necklace.”Nathan’s eyes burned, not with anger, but with the kind of fire that refused to let me go. He was close, close enough that I could feel his scent tugging on the bond, grounding me.Mael jerked our head back, tightening the muscles in my neck until I swore it would snap. “But let’s get one thing straight,” he snarled, his voice grinding through my throat. “Your pathetic little spell won’t hold me. Do you hear me? It won’t keep me down!”He surged forwar

Chapter Rosalia's POVI waited.I sat there, legs crossed, arms folded, watching Daphne’s unconscious body slump against the cold stone floor. The shadows of the tower walls pressed in, heavy, impatient, and yet all I did was sit and stare. My hands itched, my chest burned, and still I waited for the sound of her groan, the flutter of her lashes, the rise of her rage. Finally, she stirred. Her eyes flew open with a jolt, and immediately her shrill voice cut through the silence. “How dare you?!” she screamed, spitting the words like venom. “How dare you touch me, Rosalia?! You’ll regret this!”Her tone clawed at me, dragging my patience across broken glass. I didn’t think I moved. In a heartbeat, I was across the space, my hand clamped around her throat. I slammed her back against the wall, the stone groaning with the force. Her eyes widened, hands clawing at mine, her voice cracking into gasps as I pressed harder.“How dare I?” I hissed, inches from her face, feeling the pulse hammer

Chapter Rosalia's POV I couldn’t carry it anymore. Nathan deserved to know the truth. He turned to me slowly, confusion flickering in his eyes. His brows furrowed, as though he hadn’t heard me right. “What… what do you mean you killed him?”My stomach twisted. The air in the car thickened, suffocating me, but I forced the truth out anyway. “The man the Council found drained the one they paraded as proof. It was me.”His eyes widened, his lips parting like the breath had been ripped out of him. He blinked, once, twice, before whispering, “You…?”I nodded, the tears already blurring my vision. “I was the one who killed him.”He stared at me, disbelief painting every line of his face. “Rosalia, you’re a vampire. I’ve always known that. But that doesn’t make you a murderer.” His voice rose, urgent, like he was trying to drag me out of a nightmare. “Don’t believe the lies the Council feeds you-“Stop!” I cut him off, jerking my hand out of his. I didn't deserve his kindness. “Don’t dismi

Rage boiled in my veins, they looked cheerful planning my demise.Abruptly the heavy doors slammed open. And something told me by the looks of their face whoever stepped in wasn't part of their community.I looked towards the direction of the doors to find Nathan walking in.My miracle.“What’s going on here?” His voice thundered across the chamber. One of them hissed, “You aren’t supposed to be here.”Nathan’s brow furrowed. “Not supposed to be here?” He stepped forward. “As the heir of this pack, as the next Alpha, why wouldn’t I be present at a trial for my wife? Explain that.”Murmurs rippled. They hadn’t expected him. That alone made me smirk behind the gag.Nathan’s glare swept across them. “This—” he gestured around, “is a secret meeting. That is against the pack’s laws. Or do those laws
