Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
I put on a look of sudden realization.

"Yes, you're right.

"But if we're both wearing veils tomorrow and leaving from the same house, what if the groom picks up the wrong bride? That'd be a disaster!

"You definitely can't leave from my place. If you head out now and book a hotel to set things up, there should still be time."

Hannah panicked immediately. "We grew up together. Do you really have to ruin my wedding?"

Some of the other household staff immediately joined in.

"Ms. Daphne, Hannah's always been the one giving in to you since you were kids. She and her mother have worked for the Castillos for 20 years just to take care of you. How can you be so heartless?"

"Exactly! A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event. If you don't want to help, fine, but why are you making things difficult? Do you even have a conscience?"

"I think she's just afraid Hannah's future husband is better!"

Someone didn't even bother hiding it anymore and turned to comfort Hannah directly.

"Why do we even need her permission? In a bit, we'll help you set up a beautiful bridal suite. It'll be a hundred times nicer than hers."

Hannah lowered her head and sniffled, clearly moved.

I sneered inwardly and swept my gaze coldly across the room.

I had been far too easygoing in the past, easy enough for them to forget who actually owned this house.

I grabbed a glass and smashed it onto the floor. The sharp sound instantly drew every pair of wary eyes to me.

"What are you doing, breaking things?"

"Do you have any idea how hard it is to clean that up?"

"You don't know how to care about people at all! You can't compare to Hannah! If it weren't for your wealthy family, no man would want you."

I walked straight up and slapped the speaker across the face.

"So you do know I come from money?" I said coldly. "You do know this is the Castillos' house? Let me make this clear. Every dollar you earn comes from my family. If you don't want this job, get out. Right now."

I never expected what happened next.

Instead of being scared, they laughed.

"You put on that big-shot act every day! Do you really think you're that impressive?"

"We're not leaving! Let's see what you can actually do. We're sending Hannah off in style tomorrow."

"You seriously think anyone in this house listens to you? You're just shouting into the void."

"Once Hannah's married, we'll all go work for her. You can stay here alone in this empty house. I hope a ghost haunts you and gives you a heart attack!"

Now I understood why they were so bold.

They had already decided to abandon the Castillos and latch onto Hannah instead.

That made sense. Without their cooperation in my previous life, Hannah never could have successfully taken my place and married into the Masons.

I clenched my teeth hard.

Hannah's mother, Jenny Castillo, shot me a vicious look. "What are you staring at? We gave you a chance, and you didn't want it. Just wait till the Masons kick you to the curb!"

"Mom, stop arguing with her," Hannah said softly. "The wedding tomorrow is what matters."

She turned to me with an apologetic expression. "Daphne, I didn't want things to get this ugly, but you're being too petty today. It's honestly disappointing."

"Hannah, don't waste your breath on her," someone said. "I'm going to help you set up your bridal suite right now."

They surrounded Hannah and left my room.

Before disappearing, Hannah turned back and shot me a provocative look.

I clenched my fists.

Even if I called Nelson now, it would be useless. His trusted people were overseas with him, and the company staff had probably already pledged loyalty to Hannah.

My phone vibrated.

A notification popped up. I had received 15 million.

It was a wedding gift from the Masons.

An idea formed instantly.

I turned and left the house, heading straight for the mall.

First, I bought a property. Then, I picked up a car.

After making sure I had spent every last dollar of the three million, I went straight to the police station.

The officer stared at me in disbelief. "Say that again. What are you here for?"

"I committed marriage fraud," I said calmly. "I'm turning myself in."

The moment I heard that voice, my eyes burned red.All the grievances I had swallowed came rushing up at once. I wanted nothing more than to run straight into Nelson's arms. But Wayne tightened his grip on my hand. "Ungrateful little thing. I'm the one who saved you."By the time I finally shook free of Wayne, I couldn't even get close to Nelson anymore.Hannah's clueless followers had already crowded around him."Mr. Castillo, you're finally back! Your maid's daughter is picking on your sister!""Yeah, Daphne's got some nerve! She even dared to pretend she was Hannah."Nelson's bodyguard slapped the one who spoke across the face.Nelson looked at him coldly. "How dare you insult my sister!"The air froze instantly.Everyone watched as Nelson walked straight toward me and gently rubbed my back. "Who did this to you?"I still couldn't hold it together. I broke down crying before he could even wipe my tears away.I shoved Wayne's arm aside and wrapped myself tightly around Ne

I thought Hannah was just being smug and clever. I never expected Wayne to smile and accept it."Fine," he said lightly. "I'll take her."I blurted out immediately, "I'm a person. You can't do this. It's illegal!"Wayne didn't bother listening. After pulling me aside, he handed me a wet wipe, clicked his tongue in faint disgust, and said, "I really thought you were smarter than this."Hannah heard him, too. She lifted her chin proudly. "Exactly! This idiot actually thought she could ruin the alliance between our families. Now that everything's cleared up, Mr. Mason, we can proceed with the wedding, right?"Wayne looked genuinely surprised. "What wedding? Who said I'm marrying you?"Hannah froze. "Didn't you say once this was handled…""I said once this was handled, you wouldn't go to jail," Wayne replied coldly. "I never said I'd marry you.""Hannah, what's going on? You have to marry into the Masons!" a servant said anxiously from the side.Hannah panicked and pointed at Wa

"No! This is a marriage alliance between our families. You can't just back out!"Hannah was panicking now. If she couldn't marry into the Masons, then once Nelson came back, she would be finished. After hesitating for a long moment, she clenched her teeth. "I'll pay you back!"Wayne smiled faintly and turned to the police with perfect courtesy. "We'll handle this privately. Thank you for your time."Once the officers left, Hannah finally let out a breath of relief.I, on the other hand, grew even more tense. Dealing privately with someone like Wayne was far more frightening.Fifteen million dollars meant nothing to either the Castillos or the Masons. So why was he forcing Hannah to come up with it immediately? Was he suspicious of something? Or was this simply revenge? The next moment, my thoughts stalled. I had been watching him too closely, and our eyes met.My whole body jolted.I remembered him asking me yesterday if I was sure about canceling the engagement, and guilt cr

That was when everyone noticed the police officers standing behind Wayne. One of them spoke up. "Which Ms. Castillo is getting married today?"Before Hannah could answer, the people around her had already pushed her forward. She was still wearing her wedding gown.Hannah forced a small nod. "I am."The next second, the officer pulled out a pair of handcuffs."You're suspected of marriage fraud involving a 15-million-dollar wedding gift. You failed to return the funds on time. You'll need to come with us."Hannah froze. "Marriage fraud? Officer, I'm already here at the ceremony!"The officer frowned slightly. "Yesterday, you came to the station and turned yourself in. You said you didn't want to marry Mr. Mason anymore, and the Masons already agreed to call it off."Hannah stared at him in shock, then rushed to deny it. "No, I never went to the police. I never confessed to anything! Someone's trying to sabotage the marriage between Castillo Enterprises and Mason Group. Officer

One of Hannah's followers handed her a small kitchen knife.Hannah tapped the flat of the blade against my cheek, smiling coldly. "We grew up together. I was going to let you go, but you just had to make trouble on my wedding day. Wayne is marrying me, not some useless nobody like you."Her lackey kicked hard at the back of my knee.My legs gave out, and I dropped to my knees.Hannah planted her heel on my face. "You're nothing but my pet now. Grovel and apologize. Say you're sorry a hundred times. Maybe I'll be generous enough to forgive you."Blood ran from the corner of my mouth. I laughed softly and looked up at her. "Keep dreaming. As long as I don't agree, the Masons' wedding convoy won't show up today.""Still talking big?" someone sneered. "When their cars arrive, I'll tear that mouth of yours apart. You really haven't woken up, have you? You actually think you can control the Masons?"They didn't believe a word I said. Kicks and blows rained down on me.I curled up
