LOGINChapter 6
I walked into the mansion and found everyone gathered in the living room. The tension was so thick it felt like the air itself was holding its breath.
“Now what have you done Hayden? You married this girl and got her bestfriend pregnant? Amazing!” his mom, Alessiah snarled.
Great. Perfect. Just what I needed.
“This is crazy! How will we surpass this? It’s this girl’s fault!” Elly Rose jabbed her finger at me.
Grandma Aurora intervened immediately. “Elly, stop. Katlyn is part of this family now. She did nothing wrong.”
“Well, if it’s not her fault, then it’s her best friend’s fault,” Elly professed.
I felt rage rise in me. I stood up straighter. “Really? Nairovi's fault? Or your brother? Who got her pregnant, huh? Who made the mess here?”
It was pointless, but I wasn’t letting her talk trash about someone who only acted out of pain. Nairovi was hurting because of everything we all caused. I still cared about her, even after she dragged me into hell.
“Enough! No more of this foolishness!” Mr. Henry’s voice cut through the chaos.
Silence swept through the room in an instant.
“You made a huge mistake, Hayden. This is a disaster for our family.” Mr. Heather criticized Hayden, his eyes burning with anger. “How did this even happen? How did you get her pregnant? Did you even think about the protection?”
“We broke up, Dad. I didn’t know anything about it,” Hayden replied, calm but tense, staying controlled.
“Then tell me—what are you going to do now?” Mr. Heather asked.
Hayden stayed quiet.
“Deny the child,” Mr. Heather said unflinchingly.
“What? She’s my best friend!” I burst out. “You can’t just pretend the child doesn’t exist!”
Mr. Heather looked straight at me. “And Hayden is your husband. That makes her a mistress. If you don’t care about our reputation, then stop arguing.”
I stared at Hayden in disbelief — confused, disappointed, and angry–then strode out with heavy steps toward my room.
“Katlyn!” Hayden called after me.
“Let her,” his father said, stopping him.
Inside my room, I grabbed my phone. The comments were blowing up everywhere.
She’s a flirt. Why would Katlyn steal her best friend’s ex?
They’re enemies, right? How did they end up married?
They met at a club. Look at this video.
That video had over a million views. I tapped it. There I was, hair being pulled, wine flying into Hayden’s face. The whole world was watching.
My phone buzzed.
Katlyn, leave the mansion. Now!
It was my dad. My pulse kicked up just as Hayden walked into the room looking drained. I stepped forward and I slapped him.
“That’s for hurting Nairovi! How could you leave her when she’s carrying your child?!” I shout as I slap him, my anger finally breaking loose.
“Katlyn, please calm down,” he said, lowering his voice. He glances toward the hallway and closes the door of our room. “They’ll hear us.”
“Now what? I fire back. “What are we supposed to do? Are you really denying the child? After everything? Did you even love her?” pointing at him.
“I didn’t know she was pregnant.” Hayden reacts, frustrated but trying to stay composed. She never told me—”
“Answer me!” I cut him off, my voice shaking. “Did you even love her? Or did you just use her?”
Hayden’s jaw tenses, his eyes narrowing as he finally admits, “I did. I did love her.”
“Then why?” My voice cracks. “Why hurt her? If you stayed with her, none of this would have happened.” Tears fall as I wipe them away with the back of my hand. “I should be with her right now, comforting her… but I broke her heart too. And I hate that.”
“Katlyn, it’s not your fault,” he says, trying to take another step forward. His voice softens. “You only did what you had to do for your family. And you never meant to hurt her. As for us…” He pauses, searching for the right words. “Nairovi and I loved each other, but not everything lasts. We needed to break up.”
“What a stupid choice,” I mutter bitterly, shaking my head. “Why didn’t you at least fight for it?”
“Because I didn’t love her anymore,” Hayden answers, firm and unapologetic.
I slap him again, harder this time. “You’re all the same!”
His expression shifts — his composure slipping, anger flickering in his eyes.
“Katlyn..” he says, voice lower, heavier now. “She cheated on me.” He looks directly at me, not flinching. “That’s why I left.”
“You’re lying.” I say instantly, stepping back from him. “She would never cheat. She loved you.”
“Believe it or not, it’s the truth,” Hayden replies steady but disheartened that I won’t accept it. “But right now, we have bigger problems.” He runs a hand through his hair, exhausted. ”If this scandal continues, both families will lose everything. Investors, partnerships, business deals — they could all collapse. Your sacrifice will be wasted. We need to act fast.”
Before I could answer, my phone buzzed again. A message from Nairovi. I inhaled sharply as I read it.
Hayden stepped closer. “What happened?”
“She’s in the hospital,” I said, my voice unsteady. “Hayden… we need to go. Right now.”
Hayden didn’t waste a second. He grabbed his keys, posture stiff and alert.
“Let’s go. I’ll drive,” he said.
Chapter 40(Katlyn’s POV)Elly Rose snatched the paper Hayden had written from my hands. She shot me a dark look before flicking the letter into the air to smooth it out, then read it.“I’ll find a way to uncover who was behind what happened to you,” Elly read aloud, holding the letter with both hands, her eyes focused as if making sure she understood it correctly. She folded the letter, slammed it onto the bed in anger, then grabbed my arm where my hand rested on my waist.Sylina followed us into the room, shouting Josiah’s name to call him over.Zax and Nairovi soon appeared as well.“What’s going on here?” Josiah asked as he entered. The others waited for an answer while Elly and I stared at each other.Elly looked like she wanted to tear me apart with her glare.“Did you order Hayden to look for the people who kidnapped you?” she asked sharply, her voice filled with hostility.I could not answer. My chest felt unbearably heavy.“You can’t answer, so YOU did tell him to do it?” she
Chapter 39{Katlyn’s POV}My ears burned at what I heard.“She can’t stay here anymore,” he said in an authoritative tone.I felt my temper rise again at what he said.“Are you okay?! How did you—”Zax suddenly pulled the curtain behind the sofa aside with such force that I stopped mid-sentence.Through the window, I saw Nairovi outside, hands on her hips, talking on the phone. She couldn’t see us.I calmed down when I saw her there.I took a deep breath and kicked Josiah’s foot.“You really can’t take a joke,” Zax said, laughing.“You’re no better. I’m not amused by any of you,” I said with a pout, slapping both hands against the pillow.Since we were all together, I tried to open up.“I want to leave this house already. I’m scared. I feel like we’re not safe,” I told everyone.“Aren’t you going to ask if I still want to stay here?” Elly said mockingly.I glared at her and said nothing“Honestly, even before we stepped inside, just seeing the house from the outside made me want to tur
Chapter 38{Katlyn’s POV}I forcefully pulled Hayden’s hand away from my arm and looked him straight in the eye.“I didn’t start this!” I shouted at his face.I turned to Nairovi and saw her smiling, as if she were enjoying everything. My eyes widened in disbelief. Hayden stared at me, then slowly looked back to where Nairovi stood.“She’s lying! I was getting water when she suddenly grabbed my hair and slapped me!” Nairovi accused.I placed a hand on my waist and took a deep breath to keep myself from exploding at her lies.“Is that true, Katlyn?” Hayden asked, seeking confirmation.“Believe her if you want, Hayden. The two of you can go together,” I said coldly, right to his face.I turned my back and walked away, but Hayden caught my hand to stop me. He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind. I raised both hands in shock, my mouth falling open.“I’m just teasing you. I believe you,” he whispered into my ear while hugging me.I knew Nairovi could see everything.“What are you d
Chapter 37{Katlyn’s POV}Even without looking directly at them, I could sense their different reactions through my peripheral vision.“What do you mean, Katlyn?” Hayden asked, clearly confused.Because we had an agreement that if I pulled him out, that meant it was him.“I don’t know. I’m just sure he wasn’t the one who kidnapped and shot me,” I explained restlessly. His brows furrowed, confusion deepening, so I clarified more carefully.“I panicked when I saw that man. His build was almost identical to the kidnappers, so I started trembling even though he wasn’t one of them. I imagined him standing in front of me, I couldn’t control it,” I admitted, my voice still wrapped in fear.I didn’t know why, but everything that had happened left me feeling uneasy and unsettled. I couldn’t calm myself.“Did you manage to get the CCTV footage?” Josiah asked, cutting in.Hayden and I looked at each other and both shook our heads. Everyone was disappointed, we never got the chance to request a c
Chapter 36{Katlyn’s POV}“Alright, that’s fine. I’ll inform my coworker as well so that in case I’m not on duty, she’ll be the one to hand it over to you,” the woman explained clearly.Josiah looked at us, as if carefully analyzing whether the woman was telling the truth or not.“Okay, thank you,” Josiah said before ending the call.Nairovi sat down, and Elly followed.“The ones who kidnapped and shot me were the ones who found my phone,” I said seriously.I knew it was them.“How can you be so sure? Just because of the description?” Nairovi asked sarcastically.I didn’t know what she was trying to imply, but I didn’t care what she thought in a situation like this.Zax kept glancing at me. We discussed everything—what to do, what our next move should be. Nairovi and Elly disagreed with my claim. They said it didn’t seem likely, that maybe I was accusing the wrong people. In the end, they decided that I would be the one to retrieve the phone myself the next day.I had been gone for al
Chapter 35{Katlyn’s POV}I squeezed my eyes shut and held my breath when the man said those words. I was on the verge of breaking down in fear, but I clamped my mouth shut with all my strength. They opened the trash cans one by one and rummaged through the garbage.“She’s not here!”The leader arrived moments later, clearly exhausted as well.“Check the garbage bags too!” one of them ordered, and the man began inspecting the trash one by one.“Close it! It reeks!” the leader snapped.I was next. I could barely breathe. I prayed I wouldn’t be found, even though hope was already slipping away.“That’s enough! The smell is unbearable,” the leader stopped them. “That woman is too rich and too delicate to hide in a trash can,” he added confidently.“Then where do you think she ran off to, boss?”“I don’t know, but she couldn’t have gone far. I thought she was already dead. Turns out the bitch is still alive,” he said with clear irritation, as if regretting not making sure I was truly dead
