MasukChapter 5
After an hour, I survived my first meal with the Pierro family. I honestly don’t know how long I can keep this up. Every glance was sharp, and I kept thinking I was doing something wrong. Now I’m back inside our room—Hayden’s old room. They decorated everything for us. Hayden mentioned his childhood bestfriend came from Europe is arriving today, someone he treats like brother, and he wants me to meet him later.
I sit on the edge of the bed to rest, but my phone vibrates, A message from Nairovi.
You dirty little shit, I thought you were my bestfriend. But you stole him from me!
I will ruin your life and make sure you suffer more than I do!
F*ck you! You’re a stealer! You know how much I loved him, Katlyn!
You’ll pay for this, I swear you will!
Her words cut deeper than a knife. I replied trying to explain the situation—that it wasn’t my intention, that I had no choice, that my mom is sick, and everything happened too fast. But she didn’t believe me. A knock interrupts my crying.
“Ms. Katlyn, you can come to the living room, Mr. Hayden is calling you. His visitor is here,” Madam Giselle says gently.
I wipe my tears fast and try to fix myself before going downstairs.
I can hear voices from the living area — Hayden’s low tone and another man’s voice, lighter and cheerful.
“Finally, after a year, you’re here,” Hayden says.
“You’re acting like you didn’t cry when I left,” the man laughs.
“Shut up, you cried too.” Hayden laughed back.
I step closer, and Hayden immediately stands up.
“Come.” He reaches for my hand without hesitation, pulling me beside him. “Meet my bestfriend, Zax.”
Zax turns to me with an easy smile, he has a calm striking face, deep eyes, soft lips, and a warm aura. He’s wearing a pale blue shirt tucked into sand-colored pants. He looks like he came straight from a fashion magazine.
“Nice to meet you, Katlyn,” he says, extending his hand.
Before I can shake it, Hayden smacks Zax’s arm lightly. “She doesn’t need your hand. Just say hi.”
I bow awkwardly, “Nice to meet you too…. Zax.”
He chuckles, “she’s cute.”
“She’s married,” Hayden retaliates.
Zax raises both hands. “Relax, man. I’m not stealing your bride.”
Hayden rolls his eyes, but I can see he’s fighting a smile. I leave them chatting because I need to visit my mom at the hospital.
When I arrive, I check the hallway to see where my parents are staying. That’s when I noticed Sylina, our maid, walking fast like she’s trying to avoid someone. She looks nervous, clutching her small sling bag.
“Sylina!” I call, but she doesn’t hear me.
Suddenly, someone grabs her wrist, hard. “Let me go!” she cries.
I’m ready to step in until I see the man holding her.
My eldest brother—Josiah. What the hell?
“I said let go!” Sylina tries to pull away.
“No, we need to talk.” Josiah insists.
They move to the side hallway, so I quietly follow, staying behind the wall.
“I want to see my child, Sylina,” Josiah says. My breath stops. Child? WHAT CHILD?
Sylina’s voice breaks. “Your son? When did you ever become a father to my son? You left me alone! You let me hide everything!”
“I’m protecting you!” Josiah argues. “You know my family and you know dad. He’ll kill me, and something might happen to you and the baby.”
Sylina cries harder. “I’m tired of hiding, Josiah.”
My hand flies to my mouth, my brother and our maid…. had a secret relationship? A baby?
I step backwards then bump into a folded WET FLOOR signage. It falls loudly.
They both turn.“Katlyn?”
Josiah walks toward me quickly. “What are you doing here?”
I stop suddenly. “Nothing. I’m… not snitching, okay?”
“Good,” he says immediately. “Because this stays between us.”
I nod. “I didn’t hear anything.” I’m lying straight to his face. “Where’s mom?” I ask, trying to change the topic. He sighs and leads me to her room.
Mom looks so much better now, it’s the first relief I’ve felt all day. Dad and my brother Paige are there too, but dad gives me a serious look and asks to talk outside.
“You need to get pregnant with Hayden’s child,” he says calmly. “It’s the only way to secure our future. If you give birth to the next Pierro heir, we’ll be safe.” He says it like he’s asking me to pass salt at dinner. He has no idea what he’s putting on my shoulders.
I remember why our families hate each other. Decades ago, the Salvatores sabotaged several Pierro businesses just to take the top spot in the market. It worked, and we rose above them… but the feud never ended, not until this marriage happened.
And now that I’m married to Hayden, my father suddenly wants a child — like the baby is the only way to keep our family safe.
Before I can respond, Josiah bursts into the room. “Dad! Katlyn! Look!” We rush to the TV. A news report flashes on the screen. Nairovi.
Tears streamed down her face. “Wait–-are you telling us you’re pregnant with Hayden Pierro? The powerful heir from the Pierro family? The reporter asks.
“Yes,” she sobs. “I’m pregnant with Hayden’s child. But he married my bestfriend Katlyn. The daughter of the Salvatore family.”
The reporter’s brows furrow. “But the Salvatore and Pierro families have had a feud for decades, right? Everyone knows that.”
She wipes her tears, voice trembling. “Yes… that’s what we all believed. Even me. They must’ve lied about it— so Katlyn could steal my ex-boyfriend.”
That’s not true.
Dad loses it. “That pathetic girl! She’s ruining everything! I’ll kill her!”
“Dad!” I grab his arm. “She’s my bestfriend!”
“She’s a problem! She’s destroying our reputation! The whole clan–this will spread everywhere!” He storms out of the hospital.
“Dad, wait!” I shout, running after him. My phone rings.
Triiiing–
I answer breathlessly while chasing after him.
“Where are you?” Hayden asks sharply. “Go home. Now. We have a huge problem.”
I look around but dad is gone, he left too fast. My chest tightens.
“Okay,” I say. “I’m on my way.” I head back to the mansion, my steps heavy, my head spinning. Everything is falling apart so fast — my bestfriend, my family, Hayden’s family, the news, the baby.
This is a huge problem.
Chapter 40(Katlyn’s POV)Elly Rose snatched the paper Hayden had written from my hands. She shot me a dark look before flicking the letter into the air to smooth it out, then read it.“I’ll find a way to uncover who was behind what happened to you,” Elly read aloud, holding the letter with both hands, her eyes focused as if making sure she understood it correctly. She folded the letter, slammed it onto the bed in anger, then grabbed my arm where my hand rested on my waist.Sylina followed us into the room, shouting Josiah’s name to call him over.Zax and Nairovi soon appeared as well.“What’s going on here?” Josiah asked as he entered. The others waited for an answer while Elly and I stared at each other.Elly looked like she wanted to tear me apart with her glare.“Did you order Hayden to look for the people who kidnapped you?” she asked sharply, her voice filled with hostility.I could not answer. My chest felt unbearably heavy.“You can’t answer, so YOU did tell him to do it?” she
Chapter 39{Katlyn’s POV}My ears burned at what I heard.“She can’t stay here anymore,” he said in an authoritative tone.I felt my temper rise again at what he said.“Are you okay?! How did you—”Zax suddenly pulled the curtain behind the sofa aside with such force that I stopped mid-sentence.Through the window, I saw Nairovi outside, hands on her hips, talking on the phone. She couldn’t see us.I calmed down when I saw her there.I took a deep breath and kicked Josiah’s foot.“You really can’t take a joke,” Zax said, laughing.“You’re no better. I’m not amused by any of you,” I said with a pout, slapping both hands against the pillow.Since we were all together, I tried to open up.“I want to leave this house already. I’m scared. I feel like we’re not safe,” I told everyone.“Aren’t you going to ask if I still want to stay here?” Elly said mockingly.I glared at her and said nothing“Honestly, even before we stepped inside, just seeing the house from the outside made me want to tur
Chapter 38{Katlyn’s POV}I forcefully pulled Hayden’s hand away from my arm and looked him straight in the eye.“I didn’t start this!” I shouted at his face.I turned to Nairovi and saw her smiling, as if she were enjoying everything. My eyes widened in disbelief. Hayden stared at me, then slowly looked back to where Nairovi stood.“She’s lying! I was getting water when she suddenly grabbed my hair and slapped me!” Nairovi accused.I placed a hand on my waist and took a deep breath to keep myself from exploding at her lies.“Is that true, Katlyn?” Hayden asked, seeking confirmation.“Believe her if you want, Hayden. The two of you can go together,” I said coldly, right to his face.I turned my back and walked away, but Hayden caught my hand to stop me. He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind. I raised both hands in shock, my mouth falling open.“I’m just teasing you. I believe you,” he whispered into my ear while hugging me.I knew Nairovi could see everything.“What are you d
Chapter 37{Katlyn’s POV}Even without looking directly at them, I could sense their different reactions through my peripheral vision.“What do you mean, Katlyn?” Hayden asked, clearly confused.Because we had an agreement that if I pulled him out, that meant it was him.“I don’t know. I’m just sure he wasn’t the one who kidnapped and shot me,” I explained restlessly. His brows furrowed, confusion deepening, so I clarified more carefully.“I panicked when I saw that man. His build was almost identical to the kidnappers, so I started trembling even though he wasn’t one of them. I imagined him standing in front of me, I couldn’t control it,” I admitted, my voice still wrapped in fear.I didn’t know why, but everything that had happened left me feeling uneasy and unsettled. I couldn’t calm myself.“Did you manage to get the CCTV footage?” Josiah asked, cutting in.Hayden and I looked at each other and both shook our heads. Everyone was disappointed, we never got the chance to request a c
Chapter 36{Katlyn’s POV}“Alright, that’s fine. I’ll inform my coworker as well so that in case I’m not on duty, she’ll be the one to hand it over to you,” the woman explained clearly.Josiah looked at us, as if carefully analyzing whether the woman was telling the truth or not.“Okay, thank you,” Josiah said before ending the call.Nairovi sat down, and Elly followed.“The ones who kidnapped and shot me were the ones who found my phone,” I said seriously.I knew it was them.“How can you be so sure? Just because of the description?” Nairovi asked sarcastically.I didn’t know what she was trying to imply, but I didn’t care what she thought in a situation like this.Zax kept glancing at me. We discussed everything—what to do, what our next move should be. Nairovi and Elly disagreed with my claim. They said it didn’t seem likely, that maybe I was accusing the wrong people. In the end, they decided that I would be the one to retrieve the phone myself the next day.I had been gone for al
Chapter 35{Katlyn’s POV}I squeezed my eyes shut and held my breath when the man said those words. I was on the verge of breaking down in fear, but I clamped my mouth shut with all my strength. They opened the trash cans one by one and rummaged through the garbage.“She’s not here!”The leader arrived moments later, clearly exhausted as well.“Check the garbage bags too!” one of them ordered, and the man began inspecting the trash one by one.“Close it! It reeks!” the leader snapped.I was next. I could barely breathe. I prayed I wouldn’t be found, even though hope was already slipping away.“That’s enough! The smell is unbearable,” the leader stopped them. “That woman is too rich and too delicate to hide in a trash can,” he added confidently.“Then where do you think she ran off to, boss?”“I don’t know, but she couldn’t have gone far. I thought she was already dead. Turns out the bitch is still alive,” he said with clear irritation, as if regretting not making sure I was truly dead
