Rosalia
I carefully observed the stairs as I headed for the living room. It was unexpectedly made from White oak, I had thought it was iron when I passed by it last night. Well furnished, expensive as shit. I couldn't have afforded it my whole life even if I tried. I really don't understand how a poor woman like me who had been almost at the verge of being a beggar managed to snag a rich man.
If later I'm found out to be his wife, I'm lucky but if it was a misunderstanding all along and I only looked like her, that would be very terrible. Very very terrible in fact, because at this point, I'll just go straight from here to living on the streets.
I could hear Maria's voice from where I am, she seems to be discussing something with her Dad. I finally climbed down the stairs and headed for where they were sitting by the exquisite couch. Maria was telling something to her Father excitedly while he was on his cellphone but I could tell he was paying attention to what she was saying because of his constant nods. I looked around the living room and everything around it screams 'wealth' I'm even afraid to touch anything.
Maria saw me and waved at me to come join them. I took quick steps towards them and took my seat beside her, and with her Father on the other side, she was in between.
"I have an emergency so I'll be leaving after breakfast, Jules would show you around while I'm out then when I get back, we'll talk?" Damien told me even before I could get comfortable on the couch. I turned to him in surprise but he was still focused on his cellphone. So the talking would be postponed again? Was he doing it on purpose? However, I decided to let it slide. After all, what was wrong with me enjoying the wealthy lifestyle for a while?
"What about Maria? Would she be home with me or she goes to school?" I had finished talking before realising I had said 'home'. Nice, I was already thinking it's my home already before even confirming if Indeed it was.
Maria tapped me and replied to my question "Mama, my teacher comes home to teach me"
Uhn? She's homeschooled? I looked at Damien to give me an answer but he looked away like he was guilty. Then he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Well, going to school doesn't seem safe so I decided to homeschool her"
"That's not good, how would she get along with her peers then if she doesn't interact with them?" While homeschooling was a safer choice, it's not the best for the healthy growth of a child.
He sighed "That's the reason I take her to the park on weekends to spend time with them. My sister's children also play with her occasionally"
"Mama, I don't get bored alone at home. There's the tab and Ruby to keep me company. And now, there's you" Maria quickly injected. I could tell this little one was a core defender of her Father. He does no wrong in her eyes....well he had never done anything wrong so far except bursting into my apartment, uninvited.
"Who is Ruby?"
"My cat" Maria replied, pointing to a curled white fur not far from us. I hadn't even noticed it.
"Sir, Breakfast is ready" I heard a voice coming from the kitchen. Shortly, a middle aged woman appeared. Her eyes were originally on Damien but the moment it moved to mine, she froze. She caught Damien's eyes and gestures with her eyes in my direction. I could see him give a small smile in response.
The middle aged Woman dropped the plates in her hand and hurriedly stalked over to me. "Oh my!" She exclaimed with widened eyes. I stood from the couch to meet her. I don't know what caused her action but I could guess it was because I suddenly reappeared after allegedly disappearing.
"Oh my!" She held my hands when she got to me. "Poor little thing" She says which made me confused. What does she mean by that?
Before I knew it, Damien was beside me and pulling me away from the woman.
"Daisy, we need to have breakfast" He says and that seemed to pull her from whatever trance she was in.
"Yes, Yes" she nodded and started walking back to the kitchen. Food first, I'll ask about what happened later.
I looked down to see Maria staring at me, she smiled when I meet her eyes. Then I realised she held out her left hand which meant I should hold it, which I did without question. Together, we headed for the dining area with Damien ahead us.
It was silent during breakfast. I quietly observed the father and daughter duo, it was then I realised they both had lots in common. She certainly did look that much like him but her mannerisms was from him. I could tell she'll grow to be the female version of her Father.
After breakfast, Damien picked up his phone and jacket then he started walking out. As if he forgot something, he paused then suddenly turned back and started walking to where Maria and I were standing, watching leave. He came to us but bent to Maria's height before kissing her briefly on her forehead then he spared me a glance before walking out.
"Why did Daddy not Kiss you too?" Maria asked innocently after her Father had left. Of course, he wouldn't have as we were literally still strangers now but the little one didn't know that so I pondered on the perfect response to give her.
"Uhmmm.... perhaps Daddy was in too much of a rush and forgot to kiss me goodbye" She seemed not to buy my response and it seemed she was going to say something but I immediately diverted the discussion.
"So, what shall we do now that we've finished breakfast?"
She seems to be seriously thinking about it, then her eyes suddenly lit up. "How about we plant some flowers in the garden? "
"Are there no flowers in the garden?" I wondered why there was a garden to begin with if there are no flowers in them. She nodded in response "Daddy said we'll plant them together but he never has the time for it but it's fine, now that you are here we can plant them together and show him when he gets back" She seemed very excited just talking about it.
I couldn't refuse her so I readily agreed. It wasn't like I had anything to do anyways, why not plant some beautiful flowers to lift my mood.
Damien I watched my brother in law who was casually occupying the couch in my office. I contemplated the best way to break the bad news to him without hurting him. That in itself was already an odd notion, considering I don't care about anyone's feelings unless they are either my wife or daughter. "Out with it, Genovese" His tone was laced with boredom but I could still detect the slightest apprehension he was trying to hide underneath it. I guess he could also tell the reason I could call him privately into my home office was to break bad news to him."Chester seems to have found evidence leading to you not being dead and he's looking everywhere for you" I informed him, watching the slight twitch of his brows. I would have missed it if I wasn't looking at him closely. "So what do you need me to do?"I stared at him. I wish it never came to this. I know clearly how hurt my wife would be after this decision but it's the best I could come up with to counter this situation we are in.
DamienThe moment her eyes met the blood dripping from my wrist, I knew I had made the right choice. Of course, I wasn't crazy enough to tell her I purposefully slit my arm enough to draw blood, so she could see I was hurt and forgive me. It's a form of manipulation, I know that. But I'll gladly do anything if it meant she was going to forgive me faster and not subject me to silent treatment. I had once been subjected to her Silent treatment and it was a horrible experience which I never want to relieve in my life. Nico and Rob had called me crazy when they saw me inflicting an injury on myself just to get my wife's mercy. They really don't know what it's like to have a wife who has your whole heart in her hands. If only they knew I'd rather bear the pain of being cut than her silent treatment. Only Jamie understood me. "Why are you injured?" She asked, her eyes coming to meet mine and I could see the panic in them. I immediately felt guilty for worrying her again and almost spill
Damien It was around an hour after we blew up the truck when I received a call from Mikhail, asking me to come to Chicago immediately. I could hear the urgency in his voice so I immediately left with Rob, Jamie and Nico. I instructed Reed, Christian and Diego to stay behind to guard the estate with the men under them before leaving. I didn't want to take any chances. As soon as we landed in Chicago, we headed straight for the Bratva's biggest club, Rus, where Mikhail had wanted to meet. The club was in full rage as expected when we got there and we were led to in by one of the securities outside. I don't often visit clubs because I don't like the noise, the smell of liquor, sweats and expensive perfumes in the air. Everything mixes together to create a disgusting combination which I don't like. I'll ever be there for business and it had to be important even, like now.The security guard led us through many corridors in the club before we finally got to a section completely differen
Serena I was watching a TV show with Maria, when I saw Damien climbing down the stairs. I knew tonight was the big day and I was so nervous, as well as scared for the people I've come to like in the New York family. It was the last peaceful night before the war officially broke out. Rob and Nico had already gone to snatch the ammunition truck about an hour ago and Damien had to be somewhere too. In order not to drown in fear, I decided to have a girls night with Mia and Sienna. Yes, Sienna would be coming all the way from Chicago because her husband was also going to be busy. We three decided to stay together with the kids. It would be a good safety measure too. Damien got to the living room and leaned over us, giving both Maria and I kisses on our foreheads. "Dada, bye bye" Maria says as she waved at him. He returned her wave with a smile. Then his eyes met mine. "I'll be fine, don't worry. If we need your help at some point, I'll call you" He says but I still wasn't reassured.
DamienChester had taken the first step to provoke us. He burned one of my warehouses. Though, the warehouse didn't house many things of value that could bring me losses, but it was still mine and he dared to touch it. I've gathered the men to the meeting room and currently we are discussing what to do next. The men in the room are the ones I knew I could trust with my life because we didn't want anything to go awry as a result of oversight. With Reed; my Underboss, Jamie; the Consigliere, Rob; one of my Capos, the one in charge of dispatching the soldati, Nico; my personal secretary/ enforcer, Diego; another of my capos who runs the chains of clubs and the new addition to the team, my lovely wife, Serena, our computer genius. I always knew she was more than she ever thought she was but only had no idea what she could do. The past month had been proof of it and I know it's only the beginning. I was surprised none of the men in the room appeared to mind her presence since we've ne
Serena I took my seat and got comfortable on the couch before taking my cellphone and placing a call to Chester. It had taken me a while to decide when I was going to call him. So now, before dinner, I decided to call him since I wanted no reason to puke my dinner if he would say something disgusting. Damien was sitting opposite me with his head buried in his laptop. He must have other things to do but he decided to accompany me here just in case I needed him. My husband is very thoughtful and it makes me sometimes wonder what good I did In my past life to deserve him. I wonder if all the lack of love I grew up with was because I was going to have someone who would love me as much as he did in the future. If it's indeed because of it that my childhood was the day it was, then it was worth it. As if knowing I was looking at him, which I'm sure he noticed because he noticed everything, he looked up and gave me a smile. Of course, Chester took that moment to pick the call. Damn him!
