"Mr Wyatt, Miss Knight has..."
Noah Miller, Apollo Wyatt Lincoln's secretary put a file on the table while uttering so in a rigid tone of voice when Apollo's eyes were glued to the wall clock. He turned around in his chair and skipped a glare at the file on the table. Letting out a sigh he rests his head against the chair.
"I see."
"You don't look surprised..."
Turning around Apollo smirked. He knew she would do something like this. "Let her do what she wants."
"Got it, sir."
It was past evening. Avery looked around and wiped off the sweat on her body. She was drained because of walking for so long. Since she left the hotel, she had been wandering everywhere.
'I don't believe him at all, he must be lying. I can't just give in to his wishes, knowing how he used to bully me I can't get myself to trust him without testing the fire!'
Taking a look at her surroundings she gazed at the screen of her phone, she could see the time but the very phone reminded her of something else. Exactly what Apollo told her was playing before her eyes.
Flashback
"What is your choice?" Hearing Apollo's flinty tone she was pulled out of her reverie.
After seeing the assassins waiting in front of the hotel to kill her, she chose to stay there until she would figure out something.
"Apollo Wyatt Lincoln, this is not something to be kidding about. Do you know what are you saying?"
"Why do you think I was joking?"
"You know I was married once. I got divorced just yesterday, why do you want to marry me? This doesn't make sense to me." She moved her hands from her waist to the air. It was beyond belief to her.
Apollo Wyatt Lincoln was a famous businessman who just came back to the country after eleven years of staying abroad. He was the no. 1 businessman worldwide. Handsome, powerful and aloof.
Apollo had those deadpan eyes with no facial reaction. He took a seat on the sofa, throwing some papers on the table.
"You don't have to think much about it. I am not interested in you."
"You... I was not thi..."
"Listen to me very carefully, I am just being kind. You know what's good for you. In five minutes if you don't choose, I will take it as you want to die." With those words ending, he left there, leaving Avery alone in the room.
'Kind? To me? Anyone can be kind I believe but you...'
To make Liam and every single people who hurt her pay for what they did to her, she knew Apollo was the best choice for her but she couldn't forget how he used to hate her. Something was probably off. Taking a look outside as she saw those men Avery pulled her hair.
'What should I choose? Apollo is the best choice now but I don't like him the slightest, what if he wants to hurt me so he's pretending to help me... What should I do? God!'
And here she was. After walking long, she didn't know where to go anymore. So far she didn't see anyone chasing her anymore. Now, she was getting more sure that he was just spitting lies.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Avery suddenly heard some motorbikes sound. She in a swift turn around and her eyes dilated. Without a second thought, she started running for her life.
'They are those guys from yesterday night... '
Two motorbikes were now chasing after her, they looked like those scary gangsters with weapons in their hands.
'Damn, my legs hurt! But I can't stop here.' Unexpectedly she was taken aback as four motorbikes came surrounding her.
Avery frightened peeked around. She tried running away but was interrupted as one of the bikers almost crushed her.
She sat on the ground, covering her ears with her hands. The sound of the motorbikes was bursting her ears.
The bikers got off the bikes. With weapons in their hands, they started roaming in circles around Avery.
"Who are you guys? What do you want?" She asked them in dread.
One of the bikers grinned, he squat down on her level and said, "You can call us your death."
"Death..." Avery gulped at the word.
Hearing her they laughed again. This time one among them asserted with a lascivious look in his eyes. "Look at her body, she doesn't look that bad. How about we f*ck her?"
Avery swallowed and kept her head down, trying to think what could she do to escape them.
"We were ordered to kill her."
"Ya, so what? Before killing her we can just taste her body. After she pleases us, let's kill her!"
"That's not so bad of an idea!"
Avery heard them giggling. She in a shuddering tone of voice begged, "Please let me go!"
One of the guys smirked then he held the knife under her chin, "Sorry baby, we must kill you tonight."
"Please don't do this. Please let..."
"Her voice is this seducing. Think how she would sound when she will be moaning. Hahaha!"
All of the bikers were laughing like devils. Avery was regretting now, regretting leaving the hotel.
'Now I know he was not joking. There is someone who wants to kill me indeed. I need to know who is it. '
"Since you guys are going to kill me, can you tell me who ordered you to do it?" Avery with teary eyes asked them. She looked so innocent that even the most heartless man would melt.
One of the bikers laughed and leaning forward he forenamed, "It was your mother-in-law of course. Oh, she said you are already divorced and your husband never f*cked you."
The dirty breath of the guy made her throw up. She was angered and clenched her fists.
Avery knew Wendy was hateful but to the extent that she would go so far as killing her... She never for once thought about it.
Seeing her looking down, one of the guys touched her face, "Don't cry, baby. We will not kill you brutally if you serve us... Good with your body." He looked at her body fervidly and licked his lips.
Avery disgusted closed her eyes. There was not even a single person around her who could save her, the road was empty.
'I had enough, I will not let anyone trample over me again. I will punish those and make them pay back for everything they did to me. But first... I need to escape them and reach Apollo. Now... He is the only one who can help me.'
"Get this chick up. I can't wait to f*ck her!"
The boy who was holding the knife under her chin looked at her, "Get up baby."
Avery with her watery eyes looked at him fearfully and in a cute tone pleaded, "Please, I am so scared of this knife. Please, can you move it? I will go with you guys..."
The guy looked at the rest and one of them said, "Move it. She seems too weak, she won't be able to do anything."
Avery with side eyes noticed the guy putting the knife in his backpack.
When the guy glared at her, he was going to pull her up but before he could she as quick as the air threw sand into his eyes.
She quickly got up, leaving the guy on the ground screaming and she kicked in one of the guy's balls with her heels on.
The other two guys took out their weapons to attack her.
"Die! Bitch!"
"F*ck off! Bastards!" Avery pulled one of the guys who were hurt then pushed him towards the other two guys. Without looking back she grabbed her heels and started running away.
"Get up! We have to kill her." The two guys ran after her.
How long it had passed she didn't know, Avery felt her knees weakening from running so fast. The road seemed never ending and the two guys on motorbikes were soon to catch her.
Sweating she mumbled while running on the road with her sluggish legs, "They will catch up with me in no time. I can't run fast any longer, What to do..."
Boom!
Unexpectedly, the strong effect of white lights fell on her eyes and losing balance, she fell to the ground. The car stopped when the two motorbikes followed the scene.
"Someone is here. What should we do?"
"Mrs Wendy said no matter what we must kill her. She will be paying us a big sum of money. Let's get it done then leave." With that, both the bikers stepped forward.
Avery with a dizzy head, stared at the two men walking towards her. She knew disaster was coming at her.
There was not so much distance between the car and those two men. But nobody from the car came out. Her hope of getting saved died down.
The guys grabbing her hands, pulled her up. "Get up! B*tch!"
"Save me! Someone... Someone help me!"
Avery shrieked.
"Nobody will save you, b*tch! You will die in our hands tonight!" And with those words, one guy raised his hand to stab her. Avery widened her eyes in fear and stepped backward. In fear, she closed her eyes.
"No!"
'I can't die, please save me. Someone... Please save me... '
Just as the guys were about to stab her, they fell to the ground. Not feeling anything at all, she looked ahead of her.
No, they were... Avery was surprised to see the men laying flat on the floor. Astonished, she looked around and mumbled, "Wait, what just happen? Why are they lying on the floor like this?"
Cough!
Hearing the familiar coughing as she turned around Avery's face brightened. She could see Apollo sitting inside the car. She in a flash stood up and ran towards the car.
"Get in the car," Apollo ordered without looking at her.
Avery nodded her head and took a look at the bad guys laying on the floor for once then she hopped in the car.
"Thank you for saving me... Apollo."
"So still wanna try to die?"
Avery nodded her head in denial, "No, I have decided... I will... I will marry you."
To her words, he paused for a moment then came his only word, "Ok."
"But... I have a question."
"...What?"
"I got divorced yesterday, the far I know one can't get married after getting divorced until six months or somewhat then how... How can we..."
"It would only be working if you two were legally married, since you two don't fall into that category, it doesn't matter."
Avery's jaw dropped and sadness was blown over her head. She gulped and muttered in a low tone, "Legally married... But I know we were..."
"Are you stupid? You don't even know that the paper you signed and all the witnesses including the lawyer... It was nothing true but only a play to fool you into marrying him."
Avery was silent, she was at in loss for words. He saw tears in her eyes.
He held her hand and proclaimed in a stern voice, "Be strong, my partner can't be a weakling." And she looked at him.
'I loved him with all my heart. I never doubted him even for once, though I was humiliated many times by his mother I never said a word back... But he turned out to be a sc*mbag! I will make sure to take revenge, I will make him pay the price for doing everything to me! I promise!'
Sitting on the chair opposite Apollo, Avery was looking at him with sharp eyes. There was no way she was going to let him bully her like he used to do. Even if they would get married he would never be able to bully her. She decided it all in her mind. "Let me introduce myself. I am Daniel Hudson, Mr Wyatt's lawyer. I've prepared the contract for your marriage. Please read it carefully before signing it." The guy named Daniel handed her the contract. Avery skipping a glare at Apollo started reading it carefully.'Why so many details? I don't understand much... '"Details."Avery looked up at Apollo. 'Did he hear me? But I was mumbling... 'To Apollo's order, Daniel started explaining. "Yes, let me tell you about the pieces of information you should know before getting into this marriage contract.""Sure.""You guys will be married for ten months, when the contract expires you guys will go separate ways. In these ten months, my client Mr Wyatt will be helping you get back the property
Lindwens HouseAvery was following after Apollo. With every step she was taking, she kept playing with her hands and looking down. Without looking she took another step and suddenly she hit her forehead against something that felt hard. Avery mumbled, 'Ouch!' and looked up, rubbing her forehead. As she saw Apollo staring at her coldly, she smiled at him apologetically."Sorry." "There's nothing to be nervous about, what's wrong with you?" There came, his stern voice. "I am just... I can't help it.""Do you need some time?"Avery looked up at him, her nervous eyes meeting with his emotionless ones. She once thought about how would she handle it when she would be meeting with the person Apollo was taking her to meet with, but she quickly shoved the thoughts and decided she would be brave yet here she was, eating her words."No, I'm ok.""Are you sure?"Avery took a deep breath and nodded her head. As Apollo extended his arms towards her, she gave her hand to his and let out a breath
11 pmSettling herself on the couch, she glared at her phone and then at Apollo whose eyes were preoccupied with the computer. He had been on it for more than an hour now. After talking about having a fiancee, the room fell silent. They didn't talk again.Avery coughed and then glanced at him again. No reaction from him like she expected!'This man! He has been working and treating me like I don't exist. He didn't even tell me where can I sleep... Gosh!'Finally, she stood up and walked to him. She knocked on the table gently so he would at least look at her.Not moving his concentration from the computer, he asked her in a serious tone of voice, "What is it?""I am sleepy. Where should I sleep?""Take the bed." He answered shortly.Avery left him alone. Sitting on the bed, she looked at the photo on the side table. It was Apollo in a blue shirt and white pants, he looked around his twenties and was fairly handsome. She remembered back at school he was the most popular guy so he was
"Can I use some of your clothes from the cupboard please?"Avery propelled towards the cupboard and was waiting for his answer. "Yeah but reason?""It's all for our plan.""And what is that?"Avery randomly grabbed some clothes from the cupboard and then started tossing them here and there on the floor casually."Can you at least tell me what are you planning of doing?"She for one minute glanced at him then she took off the shirt that she was wearing. Apollo saw how messy his room was now. And he hated it. He gritted his teeth and asked her, "For God seck, what do you want to do?"To his question, she remained silent. The view looked perfect in her eyes when it was the opposite of him. Nobody ever dared to mess up his room, to avoid him, if it was someone else he would have fired them right away and make them regret for their deeds but he couldn't do that to her. Apollo tried keeping calm and being patient... For the first ever time in so many years. Avery finally inhaled the fres
"Good morning, granny." Pulling the chair behind for Avery, Apollo sat next to her. In the Lindwens House, Jessy lived with her husband. Apollo's parents were now in another country. Because Apollo's grandfather had to go on a business trip last night, he was not on the breakfast table.Jessy looked delighted as she saw the couple who looked too sweet with each other. "Good morning."There were many delicacies on the table, and Avery couldn't wait to taste them. True to say, after she came here yesterday she ate halfheartedly as she had to be more focused on other things. While checking on the foods, she suddenly noticed that the delicacies on the breakfast table were also having some of her favourite dishes. She glared at Jessy with confusion. There was no way she remembered telling her what she liked to eat. And she knew her favourites were not among Apollo's likings. It couldn't be a coincidence!'Does granny also like these dishes?'"Granny, Uhmm..." Jessy as if expected it. Sh
"It's not a good manner to avoid your relatives, you know." Kaden Lincoln, the man who dared to stop the car pronounced. He stood with his head high in front of Apollo.Apollo paused on his way, his hands in his pocket and he had his calm demeanour. Kaden, happy to succeed in stopping him on his way smirked and then walked forward, passing him. He stood before him, and raised his hand towards Apollo, "Today is my big day, wouldn't you like to give me your blessings? Cousin."Kaden Lincoln, namely the second in line to take the lead of the Lincoln family business once had good relationship with Apollo until some years later, things took a turn and since then, Apollo as if was his rival in every single thing. Apollo sent daggers through his eyes, instead of shaking his hand with him he just walked away. 'Avoid' was the one word he wanted to use now. "I am going to get married the day after tomorrow. You probably heard it."Apollo heard him with no intention of doing such. The news o
"Granny, please wait."Jessy let her assistant leave first as Kaden called out for her. The press conference was done, but there were still people around to greet their new CEO so Apollo was busy with all the greetings."Ohh, Kaden dear. What's wrong?""I know you wouldn't make a decision without consideration. But I can't understand why did you give the position to Apollo and not me. Ain't I reliable and capable enough in your eyes?" Kaden looked at Jessy with gloomy eyes. As if a little kid to an adult while asking for his favourite toy that was given to someone else.Jessy knew he would ask her this. She was a businesswoman, after all, being able to read one's eyes was one of the reasons she always could handle any situation without worry. "Are you questioning my choice now? Kid." Jessy sounded deadpan. Kaden for one minute forgot who he was talking to. Though Jessy loved him she hated it when someone questioned her decision.Upon understanding what he just did, Kaden made a puppy
It was past 9 pm, and Avery was helping Jessy in the kitchen. Since she invited Kaden and her fiancee over, Jessy wanted to make some cookies for them and Avery insisted to help her."All done, thank you so much, dear. Without your help, I wouldn't be able to do it alone this soon." Jessy hugged her and smiled at her. "It was fun. I also loved making the cookies with you. Granny." After so long, Avery felt like she had a family. She always missed her grandmother after she died, and staying with Wendy and Liam didn't make it any good but worse for her. They didn't care how she felt.Jessy was starting to like her more now. Since Apollo's mother was quite allergic to cooking, Jessy had no companion. If she wanted to cook, she was all alone but now, she had found Avery."It's already time. They should be here soon. Dear, can you please go and ask Apollo to come down?"Avery smiled then with a little nod she walked upstairs. To her, though she was here for a short time this house didn't
