Lindwens House
Avery was following after Apollo. With every step she was taking, she kept playing with her hands and looking down.
Without looking she took another step and suddenly she hit her forehead against something that felt hard. Avery mumbled, 'Ouch!' and looked up, rubbing her forehead.
As she saw Apollo staring at her coldly, she smiled at him apologetically.
"Sorry."
"There's nothing to be nervous about, what's wrong with you?" There came, his stern voice.
"I am just... I can't help it."
"Do you need some time?"
Avery looked up at him, her nervous eyes meeting with his emotionless ones. She once thought about how would she handle it when she would be meeting with the person Apollo was taking her to meet with, but she quickly shoved the thoughts and decided she would be brave yet here she was, eating her words.
"No, I'm ok."
"Are you sure?"
Avery took a deep breath and nodded her head. As Apollo extended his arms towards her, she gave her hand to his and let out a breath of relaxation.
In the living room, an old lady was sitting on the settee elegantly, reading a magazine. Two women who were standing behind her looked like her personal assistants.
Avery took a deep breath as she was walking forward. Her eyes curiously peeked at the woman who was sitting on the sofa. She looked quite young compared to her age, with little to no wrinkles on her face, she had fair and delicate skin.
"Mrs Jessy." Apollo asserted and the old woman turned her head towards them. She glared at Avery as if reading her face. She looked at her head to toe for a while when Avery kept holding onto Apollo's arms but she kept her face calm by showing a beaming smile on her face.
"Take a seat." The old woman in a genuine tone asserted.
Apollo sat on the settee opposite of her and he let Avery sit next to him.
'Is she his mother?'
"Mrs Jessy, this..."
The old woman interrupted Apollo as she added, "What Mrs Jessy? Brat. In front of your wife, are you going to call me like that?"
Avery's eyes went wide as the word grandmother hit her ears. 'Grandmother? She is his grandmother?'
Apollo let out a sigh then added, "...Granny, this is Avery. My wife. Avery, this is my granny."
Hearing him Avery quickly looked at him. Was he kidding?
"Hello, granny..."
She thought it was going to be someone else, not his granny. She never met her before nor had she hear about her.
The old woman was scrutinizing her. "You, come here."
Avery pulled out of her trance, looked at the old woman. She read every detail she needed to know about Apollo when they were in the car but as if all those information were getting messed up in her head now. Avery with nervousness sat next to the old woman who was named to be Jessy.
She held Avery's hand and glared at her. For some reason, Avery didn't feel Jessy was going to treat her badly though.
Avery sat still keeping her smile on her face. Jessy's serious face turned once towards his grandson then at Avery who looked shy and nervous at the same time.
After keeping her eyes fixed on Avery for a while Jessy asked them both, "How did you meet each other?"
"In high school." They both answered.
"Who fell first?"
"Him," Avery answered swiftly.
"Who proposed first?"
"Him."
Avery answered again in a hurry. For a moment Apollo's eyes dilated then he looked down.
'Is she kidding me?' he gritted his teeth.
"I see... Apollo, you go upstairs, your grandpa is waiting for you in the study room." Jessy asserted while holding her hand.
Apollo looked at Avery and then at his granny. "Ok."
'She is accepting her this soon? Or am I dreaming? This old woman never fails to amaze me.'
As he left, Avery kept her head down and her smile still on her face. Now it was her turn to handle everything and she was ready.
But like she thought, nothing happened. In swift as if the old woman changed. She held Avery's hand and said with a smile, "Your name is Avery right? Dear."
"Yes, granny."
"Good. Granny will call you Eve from now on, is that ok for you?"
"Of course, granny."
"Great, now tell me how did you two meet in school in detail." Jessy sounded excited. Avery with utter disbelief glared at her, "Pardon me?"
"I know my grandson, he is always having that poker face and he always likes to act cold. I want to know how he met you."
Avery couldn't help but smile.
"He was here that's why I had to show that serious face who likes to be like that? You know with a poker face all the time."
Avery found Jessy cheerful just like her grandma. "Granny."
"Now tell me. I can't wait to hear it. Hehe."
**
It was evening. Avery with Apollo stayed at his grandma's place. Unlike the imagined, her grandma was different. She was so cheerful and a lovely person.
"Is this his room?" Avery asked the servant who came to send her to his room. Since they were going to spend the night here.
"Yes, Mrs Lincoln. This is Apollo sir's room."
"Ok, thank you so much. You can go back now."
Walking into the room Avery looked around. The room was neat and clean, everything was in its right place. She guessed though he didn't stay here, people cleaned his room every day.
She closed the door and walked towards the study table. Slowly she was seeing things, there were his school days photos, photos of him, the medals he got and many more.
She giggled as she looked at a pic of him where he seemed to be looking so funny with a poker face and someone probably took his picture when he didn't notice.
"Didn't know this tyrant had this side too..." She smiled but her smile faded as her eyes went to a photo frame. Avery looked at the door, checking no one was coming she grabbed the photo frame.
"He seems close with this woman. Who is she?" In the photo, Apollo was standing behind a woman, he was smiling while keeping his chin on her shoulder and she seemed to be happy too. As if a couple.
In the school, Avery was not the only girl Apollo always talked to though but Avery never saw her before. Curiosity surrounded her heart, she wanted to know who was she.
She tapped on the photo frame and was looking at it when the doorknob turned. The door opened and Apollo walked in.
Avery glared at the photo frame and bit her lips. "Sorry, I was just..."
"Don't touch my things next time without my permission."
"Sorry."
In school, Apollo was the one Avery probably knew the best. She knew well that he never liked anyone touching his things without his permission.
"Put it down." He ordered her in an icy tone.
Avery putting it down walked past him. The curiosity kept growing in her heart, she just couldn't neglect it.
She saw him holding the photo frame and looking at it. For once she saw his emotion in his eyes like she never saw it before.
Avery pushed herself ahead and asked gathering all the courage she possibly had, "Who is she?"
"..."
Seeing him staying silent she turned around. "Forget it..." And then his words halted her, "She is my fiancee."
'Fiancee..?'
11 pmSettling herself on the couch, she glared at her phone and then at Apollo whose eyes were preoccupied with the computer. He had been on it for more than an hour now. After talking about having a fiancee, the room fell silent. They didn't talk again.Avery coughed and then glanced at him again. No reaction from him like she expected!'This man! He has been working and treating me like I don't exist. He didn't even tell me where can I sleep... Gosh!'Finally, she stood up and walked to him. She knocked on the table gently so he would at least look at her.Not moving his concentration from the computer, he asked her in a serious tone of voice, "What is it?""I am sleepy. Where should I sleep?""Take the bed." He answered shortly.Avery left him alone. Sitting on the bed, she looked at the photo on the side table. It was Apollo in a blue shirt and white pants, he looked around his twenties and was fairly handsome. She remembered back at school he was the most popular guy so he was
"Can I use some of your clothes from the cupboard please?"Avery propelled towards the cupboard and was waiting for his answer. "Yeah but reason?""It's all for our plan.""And what is that?"Avery randomly grabbed some clothes from the cupboard and then started tossing them here and there on the floor casually."Can you at least tell me what are you planning of doing?"She for one minute glanced at him then she took off the shirt that she was wearing. Apollo saw how messy his room was now. And he hated it. He gritted his teeth and asked her, "For God seck, what do you want to do?"To his question, she remained silent. The view looked perfect in her eyes when it was the opposite of him. Nobody ever dared to mess up his room, to avoid him, if it was someone else he would have fired them right away and make them regret for their deeds but he couldn't do that to her. Apollo tried keeping calm and being patient... For the first ever time in so many years. Avery finally inhaled the fres
"Good morning, granny." Pulling the chair behind for Avery, Apollo sat next to her. In the Lindwens House, Jessy lived with her husband. Apollo's parents were now in another country. Because Apollo's grandfather had to go on a business trip last night, he was not on the breakfast table.Jessy looked delighted as she saw the couple who looked too sweet with each other. "Good morning."There were many delicacies on the table, and Avery couldn't wait to taste them. True to say, after she came here yesterday she ate halfheartedly as she had to be more focused on other things. While checking on the foods, she suddenly noticed that the delicacies on the breakfast table were also having some of her favourite dishes. She glared at Jessy with confusion. There was no way she remembered telling her what she liked to eat. And she knew her favourites were not among Apollo's likings. It couldn't be a coincidence!'Does granny also like these dishes?'"Granny, Uhmm..." Jessy as if expected it. Sh
"It's not a good manner to avoid your relatives, you know." Kaden Lincoln, the man who dared to stop the car pronounced. He stood with his head high in front of Apollo.Apollo paused on his way, his hands in his pocket and he had his calm demeanour. Kaden, happy to succeed in stopping him on his way smirked and then walked forward, passing him. He stood before him, and raised his hand towards Apollo, "Today is my big day, wouldn't you like to give me your blessings? Cousin."Kaden Lincoln, namely the second in line to take the lead of the Lincoln family business once had good relationship with Apollo until some years later, things took a turn and since then, Apollo as if was his rival in every single thing. Apollo sent daggers through his eyes, instead of shaking his hand with him he just walked away. 'Avoid' was the one word he wanted to use now. "I am going to get married the day after tomorrow. You probably heard it."Apollo heard him with no intention of doing such. The news o
"Granny, please wait."Jessy let her assistant leave first as Kaden called out for her. The press conference was done, but there were still people around to greet their new CEO so Apollo was busy with all the greetings."Ohh, Kaden dear. What's wrong?""I know you wouldn't make a decision without consideration. But I can't understand why did you give the position to Apollo and not me. Ain't I reliable and capable enough in your eyes?" Kaden looked at Jessy with gloomy eyes. As if a little kid to an adult while asking for his favourite toy that was given to someone else.Jessy knew he would ask her this. She was a businesswoman, after all, being able to read one's eyes was one of the reasons she always could handle any situation without worry. "Are you questioning my choice now? Kid." Jessy sounded deadpan. Kaden for one minute forgot who he was talking to. Though Jessy loved him she hated it when someone questioned her decision.Upon understanding what he just did, Kaden made a puppy
It was past 9 pm, and Avery was helping Jessy in the kitchen. Since she invited Kaden and her fiancee over, Jessy wanted to make some cookies for them and Avery insisted to help her."All done, thank you so much, dear. Without your help, I wouldn't be able to do it alone this soon." Jessy hugged her and smiled at her. "It was fun. I also loved making the cookies with you. Granny." After so long, Avery felt like she had a family. She always missed her grandmother after she died, and staying with Wendy and Liam didn't make it any good but worse for her. They didn't care how she felt.Jessy was starting to like her more now. Since Apollo's mother was quite allergic to cooking, Jessy had no companion. If she wanted to cook, she was all alone but now, she had found Avery."It's already time. They should be here soon. Dear, can you please go and ask Apollo to come down?"Avery smiled then with a little nod she walked upstairs. To her, though she was here for a short time this house didn't
"Who is the chef tonight? The dishes are so delicious. Was it you? Granny." Kaden asked, having one more spoonful of food. His fiancee was sitting next to her, while Apollo and Avery were on their opposite. The dining table felt somewhat more like a battlefield, coldness encompassing everywhere.Jessy answered him with a smile, "It's your sister-in-law. She made the dinner tonight."Kaden had a smirk on his face as he stared at Avery. Since he came here, he had been keeping his eyes on her."Seems like sister-in-law is a great cook. Cousin is so lucky to have her."Avery smiled and continued eating. Her mind was here then it was not, waiting for the time to pass fast.'I was worried for nothing, he probably doesn't remember me. It's been quite long since he saw me in the Lincoln Re...'But suddenly her thoughts got interrupted and she almost choked on her food."It might be that sister-in-law has been a cook for a long time. I feel I have eaten the dishes she made before."Avery grab
The road was crowded, sitting next to Apollo she kept looking at her hand bracelet. Jessy gifted it to her when she was leaving. They both said goodbye to Jessy and were now going to where she was supposed to. Though she didn't know where Apollo was taking her to.For some time she was happy to be away from this city as it would only remind her of Liam and those painful memories but now, she was back here again. As the car stopped, finally she looked up. She stared at the surroundings and then at Apollo, waiting for him to tell her where they were but he remained silent.A man in his early 60's opened the car door for her, she stepped out. In front of her, she could see the high-end building, it was not some mansion like the Lincoln Residence or Lindwens House but it looked rather expensive than those two. There were mini gardens designed beautifully on both sides of the road to the entry, the exterior design from the outside looked somewhat boring in her eyes yet it was giving out a
