Natasha’s POV.

I sat on the edge of the bed, clutching the phone like it was the only thing holding me together. My fingers trembled as I dialed Sylvester’s number again. It rang, again and again, until it stopped.

No answer. I tried once more. Still nothing.

My heart pounded in my chest, so loudly it felt like it echoed through the silence of the room.

Each passing second without a reply only deepened the knot in my stomach. I didn’t want to believe it. I needed him to pick up and tell me it wasn’t true. That I hadn’t seen what I thought I saw. Jenna was lying. That the images in my head, the ones keeping me frozen and breathless, were all some horrible mistake.

I called one more time.

The line clicked. I shot up, hope flooding my chest.

“Hello?” I breathed out, barely able to form the word.

But it wasn’t his voice.

It was hers.

“Natasha,” Jenna said softly, her voice smooth, almost taunting.

“Why are you taking his call?” I asked, feeling nervous.

“He’s still asleep. When he wake

Sylvester’s POV.I hadn’t been able to sleep in days. Every morning blurred into night, and every hour in between was a slow crawl of silence and dread. The house was too quiet. Natasha’s absence pressed in on me like a tight space, stealing the air from my lungs. She wasn’t answering her phone. Not a single reply to all the messages I had sent, even though I had sent so many. I kept staring at my screen, hoping for just a Hi, anything at all to show that she was still there. My assistant had been quick to find out where she was. He told me she had taken a leave from work and was at her parents’ house. That gave me some relief, knowing she was safe. But it didn’t answer the question burning in my chest—why had she left? Why without a word?I sent my assistant to go speak to her and try to talk on my behalf. He came back later, shaking his head, saying she refused to see him or take anything from him. That was when I started to panic. It didn’t make sense. None of it did. The last

Jenna’s POV.I sat on the couch with my legs pulled to my chest, the remote loosely hanging from my fingers as I watched the news loop over and over again. Footage of the crash. The fire. The frantic emergency response. And then, Sylvester’s picture next to a bold headline that declared him under investigation. The reporter’s voice droned on, but I wasn’t really listening anymore. The moment I had waited for had arrived. It was everything Henry promised would happen. Sylvester’s car launch had been a complete disaster. The car malfunctioned during the demonstration, and the employee driving it didn’t make it out alive. The media was tearing into him. The company’s board had gone silent, and the shareholders were in chaos. And Sylvester? He was on house arrest, being painted as careless and negligent. It was exactly what we had planned.Still, as I turned off the television and sat in the silence of my apartment, I didn’t feel the rush of satisfaction I thought I would. I had told m

Natasha’s POV.I had never seen the house this silent before. My parents’ place used to carry the warmth of early morning coffee, my mother’s voice humming softly from the kitchen, and my father’s feet dragging over the floor as he made his way to the porch with a newspaper tucked under his arm. But now, there was only quiet. The type that echoed.I hadn’t told anyone I was coming here. I just needed space. A place where I didn’t have to pretend that I was fine, where I could curl up and not worry about expectations or explanations. Dr Andrew had helped me file for a temporary leave from work when I later went to the hospital to ask for an urgent temporary leave and I appreciated that he didn’t press me for reasons. He had asked me gently if I was okay, and I gave a vague nod. That was the most I could manage. After my return from the hospital, I spent most of my time sitting by the window in the guest room. It used to be mine before I moved out. The sheets still smelled faintly

Sylvester’s POV.I sat in the same position for what felt like hours over the counter in the police station, answering the same questions from different officers. My throat was dry. My palms wouldn't stop sweating. I kept repeating myself because there was nothing else to say. The car had been checked. Double-checked. I had signed off on it myself. The system had run without a glitch during trials. I didn’t know how it failed. I really didn’t.They asked about the mechanics, the team, the software, and the maintenance records. I gave them everything I had. I even offered my phone, my emails, anything that could help prove I wasn’t careless. Because that’s what they were circling—neglect. Sabotage wasn’t their first guess. But I knew in my gut that this wasn’t an accident. Something had gone wrong, the words Henry had said were still in my mind, I suspected he had something to do with what happened and I had no idea how to prove it.Eventually, one of the officers returned with news

Sylvester’s POV.The venue was already buzzing by the time I pulled up. I could hear the distant echo of voices, cameras flashing, and someone calling my name even as I slammed the car door shut. I didn’t have the energy to respond. My mind was only on the launch. This was the moment everything changed. The moment I would be proving I wasn’t just the man who failed last time. My phone buzzed somewhere in the car, but I left it behind. I couldn’t afford distractions right now. Whatever it was could wait.I handed the car keys to Jenna as I stepped out without looking her in the eye as she approached me. She took them quietly, gave a slight nod, and walked off toward the service area. I didn’t ask what she was thinking. I didn’t care. I straightened my jacket and walked inside. The hall was sleek and wide, all chrome and glass, the type of space that made even the most ordinary man feel like he belonged to something futuristic. People gathered in clusters, talking into microphones,
