Natasha’s POV.

Hearing him said that made all my nerves disappear causing me to feel so assured.

I had never been great with crowds, that was the reason I panicked so much the last time when he told me I needed to appear in public as he wanted to introduce me. Something about all the eyes, the noise, and the pressure to smile at the right time, made my chest feel tight, like there wasn’t quite enough air. But I held my head high hanging on his words as we stepped onto the carpet, trying to ignore the way my hands were slightly trembling by my sides.

Sylvester was next to me, close enough that I could feel the heat of his presence. He didn’t say much, but somehow, that quiet confidence of his did more for me than any words could. I took a deep breath and stood a little straighter, reminding myself that I wasn’t here alone.

The flash of cameras began the moment we got closer because of how popular I had gotten. It was almost blinding, like walking into a storm of light and noise. Peopl

Sylvester’s POV.A knock came on my door and my secretary came in with some files, handing them over to me.“These are the files you asked for Sir,” she said standing upright.“How is the client outreach going?” I asked, going through the files.“We are putting in our best. This is what the marketing team had come up with so far,” she said.“No, this isn't impressive enough. Take the files back to them and tell them to work harder on it. If this is all they could come up with then this project won't even begin because none of the clients would be interested,” I said to her, giving her back the files. She nodded. “Okay, sir.”She turned around and left. I sighed, rubbing my hand over my eyes. Today's work was too much and I was more than exhausted. It was almost nine when I looked at my phone and saw her text.“I’m leaving soon.”I had planned to work late, catch up on more paperwork, but the moment her message came through, I shut my laptop. I told my assistant to cancel the rest of

Natasha’s POV.When Andrew said those words—“She’s graceful, smart, and clearly doesn’t need expensive fabric to turn heads”—the entire room seemed to hold its breath. I certainly did.I wasn’t expecting it. I had been so caught up in trying to shrink myself, to disappear from the attention Amara had stirred, that the idea of someone standing up for me, especially someone like him, felt unreal. My face burned. I didn’t know where to look. So I thanked him, happy that he stepped in at the right time.Josh had gone stiff beside Amara, and it was obvious from the tension in his jaw that he didn’t appreciate Andrew’s comment. I could feel the weight of his glare, but I didn’t meet it. I didn’t want to read whatever was written on his face. The evening carried on after that, the music low, people settling into the rhythm of wine glasses clinking and laughter bouncing off the walls. A slow song started, and couples made their way to the dance floor. I stayed by the corner, my arms folded

Natasha’s POV.“You don’t get to talk about me or my family like that,” I said, my voice trembling. “Not anymore.”She looked stunned. For once, she didn’t have a comeback. She just stared at me, jaw clenched, her cheeks growing red.Without another word, I turned and walked away.I didn’t know what the consequences would be. I didn’t care. All I knew was, for the first time in a long time, I had stood up for myself. And it felt good.I didn’t plan to slap her.Even now, as I walked away from Amara, my palm still stinging from the impact, I couldn’t believe I had done it. I had never hit anyone before—not even in school. But there was something about the way she said those things. The cruelty in her voice, the way she twisted everything to make me feel small, like I didn’t deserve to be where I was... or to be with the people I was around. But more than that, it was what she implied about Dr. Andrew. He had been nothing but respectful and kind, and dragging his name through her jealo

Natasha’s POV.The heat of the coffee stung, but I ignored it. I was more embarrassed than anything else. My scrubs were soaked, my nerves already frayed from the morning, and now this. Just perfect a perfect incident to make me feel worse than I was.“I’m so sorry,” I said again, brushing at the front of my top even though it was no use.Dr. Andrew didn’t look upset. In fact, he seemed calm—kind, even. “It’s okay. Are you alright?”“I’m fine,” I lied, though my skin felt raw where the coffee had landed. I could feel it through the fabric. “Just... startled.”“You should let me take a look at that,” he said, his tone shifting slightly. “If it’s a burn, we should treat it quickly.”I shook my head. “No, really. I’ll take care of it. And I’ll pay for the cleaning of your coat. It was my fault.”He laughed gently, eyes crinkling at the corners. “Then how about we call it even if you let me treat your hand? One condition for another.”I hesitated. It didn’t feel like a command—more like a

Natasha’s POV.I sat across from Sylvester, trying to wrap my head around what he had just told me. My mind hadn’t caught up yet. The word assassination and someone wanting him dead felt heavy, too big for the room and too real for the quiet way he had said it. He didn’t flinch. His voice had been steady. But I could see it in his eyes—he wasn’t just telling me facts. He was preparing me.“I am just worried about you,” he said.“You think they’ll come after me too?” I asked, my voice low, uncertain.“I don’t know,” he admitted. “But it’s possible. I have been thinking about it, and seeing our bond growing stronger. I became alarmed because if they notice how much I cherished you, they might try to harm you. That’s why I’ve kept my distance lately. I didn’t want to draw attention to you.”Something in my chest ached at that. I didn’t know what I would expected—maybe that he had lost interest, maybe that he regretted everything between us. But knowing he had been pushing me away out of

Natasha’s POV.The storm outside didn’t sound like it was going to stop anytime soon. Rain pounded against the windows, and thunder rumbled low and steady in the distance. When we got to the hotel room, I could already feel the awkward silence pressing between us.There was only one bed, and no couch. I glanced around, half-hoping for a miracle—an armchair maybe, something but all I found was a narrow patch of carpet and a set of spare blankets tucked in the closet.“I’ll take the floor,” I said quickly, not waiting for Sylvester to offer. “You should rest. You’ve had a long day.”He didn’t argue right away, but he looked at me for a moment, like he was about to say something. Then he just nodded. “Alright. If that’s what you want.”I set up my makeshift bed in the corner near the window. The carpet was stiff, and the air conditioning was too cold, but I said nothing. I didn’t want to make things harder than they already were. When the lights went out, I closed my eyes, but sleep did
