Eric wasn't lying. He really hadn't eaten anything for over thirty hours.

After being released from the detention center, he went straight searching for Rosalyn and caught a flight to Salenbourg. He actually had time to eat on the way, but he had no appetite.

Luke showed up carrying a takeout bag. The first thing he said when they met was, "Damn you, Eric! Did you really have to come all the way here for beef kebabs? Don't they have beef back home?"

Eric had already caught the scent and waved it toward his nose. "Yep, it smells just right."

"I ran all over Salenbourg to find this place. They don't even grill skewers for takeout, and I had to talk them into it. Do you know how they grill these for you?" Luke said as he handed over the wrapped skewers.

Eric raised an eyebrow. "Don't tell me they grilled it over the toilet."

"If they did, would you still eat it?" Lucas asked with a wicked grin.

Eric opened the foil. The skewers were glazed and golden, unmistakably authentic.
