XVII: Turning the World Upside Down Just to Find You

Alyssa's POV

I didn't show up. It was the day I was supposed to dance, but like I told Honey, I wouldn't dance this week. It was hard and something in me felt empty, but knowing those three idiots would be there forced me to skip.

Instead of dancing, I chose that afternoon to make some time for myself. It finally dawned on me that outside of work, I was free of Alice the robot, my father and Knox. I can go anywhere I like without someone breathing over my neck.

And that's what I did.

I went to a spa to have my nails done, I got a whole body massage, got my hair trimmed, ate my favorite food and desserts. I strolled around the mall on my own, window shopping and actually buying things I needed. When my feet began to hurt, I watched a horror movie and ate dinner.

At times like this, I feel like I'm actually alive and free. Although it was only wishful thinking.

"Should I go to the beach tomorrow?" I muttered to myself with a smil
