A cold aura radiated from Robert's body who was standing in front of the mound of earth. The man's eyes stared straight ahead where a beautiful photo of Ruby was adorned with a flower necklace. A beautiful smile he would never be able to see again.
Regret or not, it's too late, because the various questions that are still rooted in him will not be able to get answers. The mystery has been buried with the departure of Ruby.
The mound of red earth was still wet and covered with roses that were sprinkled like a rug. One by one the flower blades were carried away by the breeze that blew, sending a flower petal gently slapping Robert's face, which was still stunned.
"I'm sorry, Ruby. Even though it's late, I will take Kenzie and take care of him." Robert shook off the rose that was stuck in his coat.
He walked over to Rose and her family where Kenzie was. Romeo, Ruby's father was still stunned with a stick supporting his thin body. Beside Romeo stood Ryan, Ruby's youngest brother who was already working on the cruise ship owned by the Conrad family, Robert's brother-in-law.
Rose and Ryan's piercing stares were directed at him, not stopping Robert from getting closer to them. His only goal was to meet Kenzie, caress and hold the boy.
"Kenzie." Robert crouched in front of a handsome boy with brown eyes like himself.
The Asian and American blood that blends in Kenzie makes his handsomeness very unique. Robert looked at the baby he had denied his existence with regret, especially when he saw the frightened look the boy had on him.
"You still remember me, don't you?" asked Robert slowly.
Kenzie nodded firmly. "You're the doctor who treated Kenzie, weren't you?" The boy showed the stitches on his forehead.
"That's right. You're a smart kid and you have a strong memory." Robert stroked Kenzie's hair lovingly. "Does Kenzie want to be a doctor someday?"
Robert's question was answered with a steady nod by the boy. The handsome doctor with a cold face smiled happily to see Kenzie's quick response. It was easier for Robert to win Kenzie's heart when he knew what the boy wanted.
"Excellent answer. In a few days, I'll be picking you up so Kenzie can grow up to be a doctor." Robert could feel there was an angry glint from the corner of Rose's eye toward him.
"Really? Kenzie could be a Doctor when grows up?" Kenzie's eyes sparkled with joy.
That cheerful and innocent smile made Robert fall in love even more. Really his feelings can change quickly compared to when Robert had not received the DNA test results.
"Of course!" Robert tried to lift Kenzie in his arms, but failed because Rose first quickly pushed the child away from him.
"If Kenzie wants to be a doctor, Aunt Rose will save for your school." Rose looked at the five year old boy lovingly.
"We shouldn't rely on or expect help from people we don't know, that's not good and it's not the attitude of a real man." added Rose. "Kenzie understands, doesn't, Honey."
"Yes, Kenzie understands." Kenzie nodded her head obediently.
"Smart kids." Rose hugged Kenzie, stroking the boy affectionately before giving it to her sister to take away. Ryan immediately carried Kenzie and led his father away from them.
"Go. No one expects your presence." Rose's cold words made Robert smile sarcastically.
"There will come a time when you will kneel at my feet and beg. I will be back again to take my son away." Robert's calm voice was threatening.
"Never dream, it won't happen because Kenzie is now my son!" Rose's firm words made Robert smile mockingly.
"Does that mean you're offering to be my wife?"
"What a shameless, shameless man! I wonder how Ruby could be so stupid and give herself up for you, in fact you're just a lecherous man!" Rose couldn't hold back her emotions anymore.
The woman didn't care anymore if anyone else heard the debate between her and this famous doctor. All she wanted was to forget all the resentment in her heart and swear.
"Tskckck..." Robert chuckled at Rose's words blaming himself and glorifying Ruby,
"You think your sister is the Holy Virgin Mary, an innocent woman?" A cynical laugh escaped Robert's mouth.
"Yes! She is indeed a pure girl whom you have tarnished and you still insult her even now when she is gone." Rose made the sign of the cross praying for the peace of Ruby's soul.
"If she's a pure girl, how come I got her so easily and there's no virgin blood in there anyway." Robert smiled with satisfaction when he saw Rose was surprised.
The man then scraped the distance between them. He approached Rose, leaned his head closer to Rose's ear who was still shocked by what Robert had said.
"However, I must admit that Ruby's body is very delicious." Robert's words brought Rose to her senses.
The beautiful woman with Asian and Mexican blood raised her hand to slap Robert with all her might. She forgot the manners she learned when she behaved in front of many people.
Robert's words were too sharp and too cruel. Rose doesn't accept anyone insulting Ruby, even though the man is her nephew's biological father. She looked at Robert with angry, hate-filled eyes.
"Get out of my sight, right now!" Rose's voice was full of firmness.
The dispute between Robert and Rose attracted the attention of many people to gossip. Everyone wondered what made Rose dare to slap an important person, a public figure. Conrad and Jasmine, who were conversing with Romeo, Ruby's father, also turned their heads towards them. Conrad immediately rushed over to them to mediate between the two people.
"What happened, why are you so angry, Rose?" Conrad looked at Rose and Robert in turn.
Rose's beautiful and gentle face now turned like a phoenix with fire radiating all over her body, while Robert was like a dragon arrogantly ready to devour a phoenix. The two smoldering flames flashed through their eyes.
"Get him out of here, Conrad. A rotten man like him doesn't deserve to be in this place." Without turning her angry gaze to Robert, Rose turned to Conrad for help.
"This land doesn't belong to you so I'm free to do and tread any area I like." Robert's sharp words made Rose's anger rise even more.
"Never mind, Robert. Go, don't make a fuss here. At least respect those who are grieving." Conrad said slowly.
"All right, Mr. Perfect. I'll be leaving before this woman throws up and soils my shoes." Robert smiled sarcastically as he rubbed his cheek which felt hot from Rose's slap.
"Robert." Conrad looked at his brother-in-law to stop speaking cynically.
"You're right. You don't have to go, dear Doctor. I'll go, because this place is more suitable for you." Rose didn't wait for Robert to attack her with his smug words and smugness again, for in that instant she stepped gracefully away from the man who snarled in annoyance.
"We'll see, Rose!"
Ting tong!"Welcome!"The sound of the bell signaling customers to come in, made Rose look up. The girl who had just recorded the results of today's sales, was stunned to see an unexpected figure suddenly standing in front of her.If only she had known it was the man who would appear, Rose would not have said hello and more importantly she would have closed the convenience store earlier."What are you doing here?" Rose asked coldly. She closed the book containing the financial records and put them in a drawer. Rose glared at the man who came in wearing a black suit and hiding his famous handsome face behind a hat."I want to see my son." The man turned his face to glare at Rose."Your son? Heh! How do I know who your son is." Rose glared at the handsome man who was trying to hide his face behind a black hat."Don't play games, Rose. Let me see Kenzie." it was clear when the man suppressed his emotion."I'm not kidding, doctor Robert Miller. Since when did you leave your child with me?
It's been forty days since Ruby left this mortal world. During that time, Robert never bothered Rose and her family. The man did not show the bridge of his nose even though his shadow never appeared. Rose felt reassured because it meant that Robert Miller had completely forgotten about Kenzie. The beautiful girl smiled sarcastically every time she remembered how Robert's attitude seemed to want Kenzie. However, in the end it was all just a mask to seek sympathy. Rose was increasingly convinced that the man would never show the bridge of his nose. A man with a success where he became a role model in every television show and talk show, it is impossible to let his career be ruined just because of the child in the past. The child he never wanted before. "You're worried about, asking ....." The host on a television s
"Rose! What happened? How did our shophouse catch fire?" Romeo was shocked to see the remains of the fire that was still burning in the building. Romeo's body staggered, he almost fell when Dulce's hand quickly grabbed him. Dulce, who was no less surprised, immediately brought the old man to sit on the edge of the sidewalk. The immigrant woman sat beside Romeo with a body that was no less shaking. "How could it be?" Rose hissed in disbelief. Everything she owns, the house where his family takes refuge and her livelihood is there. Rose stared frozen frozen at the blackened building with Kenzie still in her arms. It was nine o'clock in the evening when the fire broke out. They had just arrived from dinner at a
Rose hugged Kenzie tightly. Her body trembled remembering that she was about to lose the little boy. Rose's argument with Robert wakes Kenzie. The boy was crying loudly. "Ssh … sshh, Honey. All is well." Rose patted Kenzie's back gently and slightly shook her body to calm the boy down. "Rose… why are you mad at that guy? He was just trying to help us." Romeo looked at Rose in disbelief. "Don't trust anyone, Dad. You can only trust me. Remember that, Dad." said Rose firmly. She was very worried that the same thing would happen again. She cast her eyes around the street especially in the direction where Robert had disappeared. Rose was afraid that the man would still be standing somewhere and then reappear.
Rose fell into the arms of the firefighters when the man grabbed her as she was about to lift the remaining wooden door from the cupboard in her room. Flames shot out from behind the thick wooden door. It turned out that there was a big hole under the wood, where there was still some burning residue from the first floor. The fire almost hit Rose's body, had the officer not immediately pulled her body away. Rose could feel the heat of the fire even though they were already a safe distance away. Rose's face was about pale for sure, sensing the danger that was about to befall her. 'I have to live and be strong for my family.' "We have to get down soon, Miss. I'm afraid there's another fireball still trapped." The officer pulled Rose's hand to immediately get down. "But, sir. My documents, my son's birth certificate ..." Rose was bewildered to see the remnants of the fire dev
Rose sneaked into the room. She saw her father sleeping soundly only wrapped in a thin damp cloth, while Dulce hugged Kenzie in the narrow bed. Rose wiped the remnants of the tears still reminiscing on her face, and she decided to calm down in the bathroom. There was no warm water in the tiny bathroom and the smell from the slightly clogged toilet stung Rose's nostrils. The corners of the bathroom floor looked yellowed and the drains were rusty and full of hair loss. There was water seepage on the roof and walls of the narrow room. "I have to get them all out of this inn," Rose muttered. Rose tied her shoulder-length black hair up and stared at her reflection in the mirror. Sadness is very, very clearly visible there, a sense of despair and tiredness mixed into one. That beautiful face looked very miserable.
"Yes, she is the one. Because of this girl, our shophouse almost caught fire." A fat woman pointed at Rose with bulging eyes. "That's not all, you know, my shop is three buildings away from her's, my customers run away and there are some of them who don't pay after buying food." Another woman with a body no less fat and curly hair looked at Rose scornfully. "Huh! Customers who want to get tattoos, also all run away. Just imagine how much I lost." Another man with long hair located thirty meters from the fire site did not want to lose to Rose. "You know, Rose, my shop is right next to yours. Because of the fire, customers ran away without paying for the clothes they tried on." The tall, skinny woman snorted in annoyance. More than ten people came to the police station to corner and report their losses from the fire. No one sympathized or simply asked how Romeo and Kenzie were. All of them just
Rose couldn't believe what she was reading. The girl's hands were shaking, as she read the agreement document which clearly had her signature on it. She did not remember the article regarding the rental fee that would be lost if there was damage to the building like this time. Everything written there, Rose also couldn't prove because all her documents had turned to ashes. The woman's body went limp. She held her head which felt very dizzy. After a day of worrying about many things, Rose forgot that she had not filled her stomach with anything but water. She closed her eyes, trying to brace herself so she wouldn't faint. "Don't pretend to be sick, it's all clear what's written there. Come on, get paid quickly." Mr. Oswaldo, the owner of the building, mercilessly rebuked Rose. "Master, restrain your emotions." The police officer fel
