Chapter 6

What a joke. The engagement gift was something her mother had left for her. Why should she give it to Melinda?!

North copied the proof she found into her phone and left.

She had been an idiot in the past and let Eiger’s words blind her to the truth. She had thought that he was the man with whom she could spend the rest of her life.

Since they insisted on asking for trouble, she was not going to play nice!

Gerald stared at North and let out a light huff.

One minute later, Connor came in. “Mr. Gerald, there’s a minor situation at the Howard family. The madam has asked you to go to the hospital.”

Gerald’s gaze turned stormy and dangerous.

Then, he remembered something and chuckled. “Sure. Let’s go.”

In the hospital, a feeble Melinda lay in Eiger’s arms while looking worried. “Eiger, are you really going to cancel your engagement with my sister? If so, I should go and apologize to her. After all, you’re doing this because of me.”

Eiger frowned. “Me canceling the engagement has nothing to do with you. She cheated and brought shame to the South family.”

“Melinda, our families came to this decision together. She has to cancel the engagement today!” Henry added coldly.

At that moment, Melinda looked up with teary eyes and started trembling. “How did you get here so quickly, North?”

North was standing at the door and watching Melinda hug Eiger. She flicked her hair with a mocking sneer and cocked her eyebrows in a lazy fashion. “If I didn’t get here so quickly, I wouldn’t have been able to see you two acting so lovey-dovey with each other, would I?”

Melinda broke free of Eiger’s arms. Her face was pale, and she looked like she was about to collapse.

When Linda saw North, she flew into a rage and rushed over to slap her. “How could you laugh?! Look at what you did to Melinda!” she screeched.

North grabbed her hand and twisted it. “I’m not the mistress here, so why can’t I laugh?”

Henry exploded. “You b*stard! Melinda and Eiger love each other! Watch your mouth!”

North sized Melinda up. “Also, you’re just a b*stard. Where did you even get the gall to call yourself my sister?”

“How dare you?!”

Henry wanted to throw a cup at North’s head, but Melinda spoke up at that moment. “Don’t be angry, Dad. I know that I’ve betrayed North. If it will make her happy, I’m willing to step down…”

She looked like she had been mistreated horribly.

Henry felt even angrier and started yelling at North. “Look at how kind Melinda is! It doesn’t matter if you’re engaged to Eiger! I want Melinda to marry him in your place! If you’re not happy about it, come at me!

“Besides, you’re the one who cheated on him! Do you have any idea how much shame you brought us, you b*tch!”

North sneered and glared at them. “So, you do know that cheating brings shame to the family?”

Their expressions stiffened.

The ward fell silent, and the nurses looked at each other.

North was right. The first person to have cheated in the family… was Henry himself. How could he yell at his daughter when he felt no shame about doing it himself?

Henry’s face turned red from anger. “Shut up! Your mother should have been able to keep me at home! It’s not my fault! It’s your mother who wasn’t good enough! That’s why I got together with Linda!”

North grabbed a chair and smashed it against the ground. The whole ward rang with the sound of it. “Say that again. I dare you.”
