Chapter 10 It’s Not That I Didn’t Do It

Perhaps all humans, in general, would not use their brains when they were impulsive. Natalie came to that conclusion when John abruptly let go of her.

In the end, she still came without gaining anything.

He did not touch her, or rather, he did not get the chance to touch her before they were interrupted.

She laid on the king-size bed with the blanket curled around her body. Natalie felt tears in the corners of her eyes. She did not know how long it has been since she last cried.

She was prepared to sacrifice everything. She was ready to do it. Yet, when he was about to advance until the end, the phone suddenly rang.

John’s lustful eyes darkened when he heard the ringtone.

The way he pushed her away was cold and heartless.

He turned his naked back to her. John’s voice became unbelievably soft when he answered the call. It was so much different than how he spoke to her before.

“What’s wrong?”

“Rest for a while if you don’t feel well.”

“I’m at home. Yes, I’m alone.”

“Alright!”

One sentence after the other.

When she heard him mentioned that he was home alone, Natalie got up while holding the blanket against her. She tactfully put on her clothes that were scattered all over the floor.

At the same time, the man behind her had ended the call. After throwing his phone to one side, he looked at her with his head tilted for a long time before he said, “You can go.”

She had expected this so Natalie did not fight back. She got out of bed in a hurry. When she walked to the door, she came to a halt slowly.

She turned around and said, “It’s not that I didn’t do it.”

John understood what she meant by that. He answered briskly, “Don’t worry. Your brother can go to school now.”

Natalie, who was leaning against the door frame, raised her eyes and thoughtfully looked at him. She exited the room and closed the door gently.

She thought this would end here.

But when Natalie opened the front door of his house, she saw Old Master Winters standing there outside. He looked surprised when he saw her.

“Dr. Snowden?”

“O-Old Master Winters, why are you here?”

The old master thought, ‘Shouldn’t I be the one asking this?’

But…

He looked at Natalie from top to toe. It was so late and her clothes were a mess. This looked like the aftermath of doing ‘that’.

The old master’s eyes darkened and scoffed. “Thank god I’ve came.”

His words…

Natalie was feeling guilty when she felt an immense pressure behind her that compelled her to turn her head back. She saw John dashing out without wearing his clothes, and she instantly felt her scalp turned numb.

All colors were drained from her face.

Oh no! Oh no!

It seemed like John did not expect the old master to come as well. His first reaction was to turn back and got into his room. When he came out once again, he was already dressed tidily.

By that time, the old master was sitting on his sofa with a solemn face. When he saw John walking out, he did not beat around the bush and said bluntly, “Since you’re married, then just move back home.”

John looked at the old master briefly and then glanced at Natalie, hinting her to put on a full performance. “I wanted to say that as well. You can move here with your brother tomorrow.”

When Natalie heard this, she glanced at him too. However, she replied, “My current place is pretty good.”

He was unhappy with her not cooperating, but John was poise and he did not get angry with her. Instead, he smiled at her. “It’s pretty good, but it’s a tad too small. If I were to move it, we won’t have enough space.”

What? He said he wanted to move in with her?

Natalie lifted her head. She was about to retort that she did not want him to stay with her when the old master said something extremely shocking, “I mean, you two should move back to the family mansion tonight!”

“...”

Natalie was shocked. Her mouth was opened wide, but she was unable to say anything. On the other hand, John was indifferent about the idea. “Grandpa, stop joking.”

Old Master Winters glared at him and scoffed, “Do I look like I’m joking?”

John, “...”

He had left home to stay in the military school when he was in his teenage years. Since then, he rarely went back to the family house except only to celebrate important festivals. But now, the old master was asking him to move back out of the blue.

No, the old master wanted him to move back with Natalie!

Had he not given up on her yet?

When he thought about this, John was even more reluctant to go back. He pulled the woman who was standing next to him into his arms. “It’s fine here. Right, honey?”

Natalie almost vomited from that ‘honey’. She forced a smile on her face and responded, “Yes, it’s great here. It’s comfortable and big too.”

The old master held an eminent status, and he was a character who had experienced a lot in life. If he did not understand what the two of them meant when they were making faces at each other, it would mean that he had wasted all these years of living.

He did not expose them though and only emphasized in all seriousness, “Even if it’s great, it will never be as great as the family house. Plus, John is my eldest grandson. We can’t be perfunctory with his marriage. So, move back tonight. Starting tomorrow, I will hire someone to teach Dr. Snowden etiquette and manners. The young madam of the Winters must not know anything and learn beyond work.”

Not know anything.

If someone else were to say this, Natalie would fight back. However, the person who said this was Old Master Winters, he must mean something else when he said ‘anything’,

However, no matter how open the old master’s reason was, it was not something that she should stick her nose into. After all, she would not become the female matriarch of the Winters household.

But it was the old master who said this, she was afraid that it would be no avail even if she rejected this. She was panicking when John said, “I’ll teach her.”

“You don’t even have manners and you have the cheek to say you will teach her?”

The old master scoffed. “Enough. Let’s not talk about this anymore. What I said, goes. You’re moving and you’re moving now.”

“Grandpa, the family house is so far away. It’s inconvenient for me to go to work.”

“Inconvenient?”

The old master peered at him. He had an 'I know what you're thinking about, kiddo' look on his face. "Is the sports car at home not fast enough? Hmph! If you don’t want to stay at the family mansion, then I’ll let Dr. Snowden and her brother move in first. You can do whatever you want.”

Let Natalie move to the family house herself?

So, this was the old master’s true intention.

John was reluctant at first, but now, his expression changed. His hand that was on Natalie’s shoulder slid down to her waist.

He grabbed her waist tightly, pulled her toward him, and planted a kiss on her cheek. He said in a friendly manner with belying hypocritical intentions, “We just got married. It would be cruel for us to be apart from each other.”

Natalie was startled by his sudden kiss and coincidentally, the old master saw her dodging from him subconsciously.

The old master’s piercing eyes peered at John and he ripped through his lie, “Aren’t you guys apart now?”

John remained smiling hearing that, and he subconsciously tightened his hand on her waist. “Alright, we will move back to the family house.”
