CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

Alec

"Get down," I hiss at Damon and Winter.

The three of us drop to the platform, pressing ourselves flat against it so that the Silver Hunters can't see us.

"How did they find the lighthouse?" Winter whispers.

I shake my head. "Same way we did?"

"They look like bad news." Damon chews his bottom lip. "Okay, we need a plan."

"Hold on." I hold a finger to my lips and tune into my heightened hearing. I can just make out what the Silver Hunters are saying.

"Maybe the tower tossed them down here," a man says. He must be referring to Hank and Elena's bodies. "Another spell or trick."

"Or not," a woman says.

"This whole place is crawling with beasts,” a second man chimes in. “I tell you what. I won’t be an experiment like Ted was. I’m not the first to climb those steps.”

“You’ll follow your orders,” the woman growls. “That’s what you’ll do.”

I glance back at Damon and Winter, who are staring at me expectantly. “They think there’s something else here besides us. Something dangero
