The only thing I saw at first was a paw, peeking out from the leg of one of the chairs and shaking against the wooden floor. And then, I saw another. And as it moved, the smell got stronger. And when it came out into full sight, I saw the creature. Its gaze met mine. It was a wolf.A small, young wolf.But something about its eyes was off. Its eyes looked cloudy. The wolf let out a low rumbling growl, and even that seemed muted, soundless as a whisper that had forgotten how to shout. Saliva or something blacker was hanging from the corners of its mouth and pooling on the floor beneath it. I stumbled backward, with one of my hands placed on my chest.
