Chapter 4

I tried to avoid Charlotte's uncle and aunt because I was planning on doing the unthinkable. I know it’s cheating, but I must have woken up in her body for a reason, and maybe that reason is getting my revenge. I’ll just get my revenge, and then after that, I’ll do whatever it takes to return her to her body.

However despite all of that I can’t look at her family in the eyes and pretend like I’m their daughter whom they’ve been waiting for three years.

According to the little information that I’ve got from the nurse she had an accident the same day the same day that I died and that can’t be a coincidence and it could possibly mean that I was reborn.

"Ignoring us won’t make us go away, Charlotte, and it won’t stop the guilt that you are feeling right now" the woman who I assumed was the aunt said as soon as she entered, and you could tell how hostile she was planning to be.

"Umm, hi" I said, and it came out more like a question than a normal greeting.

"Is that all you’re going to say after you killed my brother?" she said, and I looked at her confused.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, sitting back.

"Right, you caused my brother’s death, but you miraculously get to survive and everything is okay" she said, and the uncle started rubbing his hands over her back to calm her down while I was just sitting there confused.

"That’s enough, Mrs. Sterling" another man said, entering.

I looked at him and then them, expecting someone to tell me what’s going on because I’m not Charlotte, so I obviously don’t recognize them, but I also can’t tell them that.

"It’s a pleasure to have you again, Miss Chadwick. Everyone was very worried about you" the man who entered said, and the aunt scoffed.

"I’m pretty sure you know why I called you here. Since the pest is up, then I see no reason why the will cannot be read" she said.

"Will?" I asked. I’m not Charlotte so I’m not in a position to judge how her family does things but who reads a will on the same day their niece wakes up.

"Yes, the will! Or did you forget that you were driving that stupid sports car that you insisted my brother should get you, and then caused their death?" she said.

I instantly felt bad for Charlotte and her entire family. "So Mom and Dad are dead?" I asked and it reminded me of my own parents and I wonder how they are and how they are coping with my death because my sister may have been the incarnation of evil but my parents love me or at least they loved me.

The man who I now understand is the lawyer looked at me with sympathy and pity. "I’m sorry for your loss" he said.

"Well, I’m not sorry, because you deserve that, and I don’t understand why you had to survive.”

The lawyer turned to the aunt. "I don’t see why we should read the will today. We can read it later when Miss Chadwick has recovered. She just woke up today." he said asking the same question that I was asking myself but this woman just wants money and she couldn’t care less about her niece.

"You’ve been trying not to have it read for three years because you claimed that there was a chance she would wake up, and now that she is up, you don’t want to read it? I hope you’re not trying to run away with our money, Mr. Vance" she said.

The lawyer pulled out some papers. "Mr. Arthur Chadwick stated that in the event of his death, the entire Chadwick Empire including the real estate holdings, the ancestral pack treasures, the shares, the luxury estates, and all his liquid assets be passed exclusively to his daughter, Charlotte, and she is the sole executor of everything that they owned. But, of course, he left you a sum of money and an apartment" he said.

I was sitting there in horror, feeling like a fish out of water, because that sounds like an awful lot of money.

The uncle looked pale and furious, and the aunt looked like she was choking on her own anger and hate. It’s quite clear they didn’t come here to welcome their niece back from the dead, instead, they brought a lawyer hoping to get the fortune.

That sounds typically familiar to the people who betrayed me, and I guess the world runs on power and money, and that’s all everyone wants.

"No, no! She doesn’t get to take everything!"

"I’m sorry, Mrs. Sterling, but Miss Chadwick here holds authority over every asset your brother owned" the lawyer said.

The aunt was furious so much so that she walked away and slammed the door behind her, and the uncle followed after her. I was left with the lawyer.

"I would be careful about those two if I were you" the lawyer said, and I nodded absentmindedly. "I’m sorry that we had to do this today, but I’ll leave you to rest, and I’ll talk to the workers to prepare your room at the mansion. Or do you want to stay at your apartment?" the lawyer said. "I know how excited you were that your dad bought you an apartment. It’s just a pity you didn’t get to see it because they died on the day they were bringing you home" he said.

I shook my head. "I think I’ll go to the mansion" I said.

I don’t know who Charlotte is, and I want to know who she is because I’m stealing her life, at least for a little bit, and I owe her that much.

"The driver is waiting downstairs, so when you’re ready, then I’ll have you discharged."

"Thank you, Mr. Vance. But can you do me a favor?" I asked.

"Of course. Anything you want."

"Can you get me an invitation to the coronation gala tonight?"
