I didn’t sleep the rest of the night, was my dream real. It felt real and that … kiss. Even now, I can still taste the burnt caramel on my tongue. If it was real, I wasn’t even awake for my first kiss.

I’m pulled from my thoughts when there is a knock at the door and I get up grabbing my robe. Marquis is probably early for breakfast, especially with everything that is happening today.

I rub the remnants of sleep from my tired eyes as I cautiously swing the door open. “Morning Marquis, just pop it on the side,” I mumble, my voice still drowsy, while motioning for him to place whatever it is on the nearby table, already turning from the door when I hear a voice I wasn’t expecting. “Is that how you treat us now, princess?” dad’s voice echoes, causing a jolt of surprise to course through me, pulling the last ounce of sleep from my body.

Kara needs therapy. She assumes every male is an abuser like her father was. She needs to work out her trauma. Her family should’ve gotten her help instead of just traveling.
