Something was in the air. Or maybe there had been something on Cassian's lips last night ? I don't know. But I'd fallen asleep thinking of him and woken up to thoughts of him.

It was driving me mad and I hated it. I hated how he made me feel. I got up early, earlier than usual. I needed to get him out of my head, and also be productive. I got dressed in sweats and a casual shirt.

I heard footsteps approaching and opened the door before Mrs Alanna could knock. Her hand paused in the air and her eyes flickered with surprise before she dropped it and cleared her throat.

"You're up early," she commented, eyeing me suspiciously.

"It's a great day, is it not, Mrs Alanna ?"

She nodded and turned around, leading me to the dining hall.

"You'll have breakfast and then we'll get to the first lesson of the day."

First lesson of the day. She didn't actually mention the first lesson. That was alarming. I slid into the seat an omega offered me, thanking him.

"What is this first lesson, Mrs A

A guard I hadn't noticed before stepped forward and unlocked the cell, pushing the bars open. I entered instinctively. Cassian's hand clamped hard around my wrist before I could take another step. "You've identified him. You're leaving," he said, voice like iron. No room for argument.Huh ?I yanked against his grip, my pulse hammering with defiance. "No."His eyes narrowed, sharp enough to cut. "This isn't for you. You don't belong in here."My nails bit into my palms, but I didn't look away. "I do. He owes me, for me, for my sister. I won't leave. He hurt us."Something flickered in Cassian's gaze, fleeting but lethal. He leaned in, his breath hot against my ear. "You wanted this. Don't say I didn't warn you."He released me with a force that made my skin sting. My chest heaved, but I stood straighter, matching his storm with fire of my own. I would not leave. The rogue lifted his head when Cassian and I approached. His grin split wide, crooked teeth flashing like a nightmare."H

The afternoon sun beat down on my back as I sparred with... nothing.I jabbed the air, sloppy and desperate, my fists slicing through empty space. My knuckles stung where I'd clipped myself, and the ache in my arms felt more pathetic than powerful. Sweat slid down my temple as I swung again, breath ragged. I wanted to get better, to be able to fight that bitch-ass and not crumble next time. But no one would help. No one dared. They all feared Cassian too much, and to them, I was some fragile ornament, too precious to risk shattering."The Alpha won't like that."Bullshit.With a grunt, I let my fists drop. The silence mocked me, and I collapsed onto the grass with a huff. Fighting air. Goddess, what was I even doing? A bitter laugh slipped past my lips, because the absurdity of it all was too much."Um..."The sound snapped me around. Nicole stood there, towering, broad-shouldered, his expression carved into a mask of blank seriousness. But his eyes betrayed him — uncertain, shadowed

Cassian’s POV The forest reeked of blood and fear. I moved through it like a blade, each breath sharp, each strike precise. Rogues scattered in every direction, their frenzy tearing through the underbrush like frightened rabbits. They had thought themselves bold, storming our borders under cover of night. Bold, but not smart. "East flank secured!" Nicole's voice thundered over the chaos. My beta’s wolf was a flash of gray and muscle as he tore through another fleeing body. He fought with the same ruthless efficiency he always had. I didn't waste breath on a reply. My focus narrowed, locking onto the panicked heartbeat pounding just ahead of me. The rogue stumbled, crashing through the trees. Too loud. Too desperate. I lunged. The impact rattled my bones as I slammed him into the dirt, my forearm pressing against his throat with enough force to make his eyes bulge. He snarled and snapped, teeth flashing in the moonlight, but I bore down harder, pinning him like the insect he

I shut the bathroom door behind me, pressing my back against it as though I could lock the whole world out. My hands trembled. My ribs ached. Every bruise felt like proof that Kira had won. And she had. She won.The mirror only confirmed it — a swollen cheekbone, a lip split and raw. I swallowed the lump in my throat and soaked a cloth under the tap, letting the hot water scald my palm before pressing it to my face. The sting forced a hiss past my teeth.I bit down hard, choking back the sound. I would not cry. Not for them. The door creaked open.I spun, startled, clutching the cloth like a weapon.Cassian stood in the doorway. His eyes went straight to my face — lingering, darkening — before moving over the rest of me. Every bruise, every scrape. His jaw tightened until I thought it might crack. I turned back to face the mirror, ignoring him. I wasn’t in the mood for his taunt or mockery.“Go away,”He didn’t respond, just closed the door behind him, softly. He crossed the room with

By the time I made it back to Cassian's suite, the pack house had gone quiet. The hallways were dimly lit and there was nobody in sight. After leaving the council room, I had gone to the library, and somehow, I got lost in a romance book.I rolled my shoulders, trying to ease the tension there when I let out a yelp, bringing my hand up to my chest.Cassian sat in the shadows, broad shoulders bowed, the moonlight catching the sharp line of his jaw. His arms were folded on his chest, his head leaned back on the couch. He caught my scent, or my yelp, and slowly lifted his eyes to mine. He didn't have his usual coldness in them, just wariness."Thank you," he finally spoke, his voice low. "For what you said in the council. For having my back."Heat rushed to my face, and I hated it. "Don't thank me," I scoffed, folding my arms. "I just didn't want to sit through their self-righteous droning any longer. You should be grateful I saved you from dying of boredom."I brushed it off, or tried
