"You felt his presence? I thought you said he was gone. I know he's a hybrid...but surviving the fall.... it's a bit too much," Jared said.

I turned to look at Rylee. She had tears in her eyes and could barely look me in the eye.

"You saw him last night, didn't you?" I said and she looked up, startled.

"I... how did you..."

"I saw him right before he vanished. He fooled you," I said and she started to cry. Jared's eyes widened.

"I'm so sorry. I felt the warning signs but I ignored it on purpose. Seeing Nathan hit me hard. I thought I had gotten over him. I put myself in danger. I'm so sorry," she cried.

I sighed, rubbing my temples.

"She was alone with Killian yesterday?" Jared asked and I nodded.

"He was playing mind games with her. He came to her as Nathan."

"Doesn't that mean that he captured Nathan's soul?" Jared said.

Rylee began to sob harder. Rising to my feet, I went to her side and embraced her. She latched onto me, unwilling to let go.
