LEAH

The silence in my room presses down like wet fog, thick with things I can't even name.

I haven’t opened the curtains in three days. Or maybe four. The moon has passed overhead in phases, but I’ve stopped counting. I just didn't have the strength.

I've lost my strength for a lot of things. Eating, talking, sleeping, even breathing, at least the kind that feels like living.

The image of that day just won’t leave me. Another woman with my mate. Her hands on his face, and his lips on hers. That stunned, frozen moment where I stood at the doorway watching them, as my heart shattered into pieces.

I didn't cry, at least not right away. I couldn't let them see me broken. Lucian has already seen me as a broken doll without a wolf, can't let him see more of that.

That night, I heard him call, but I just couldn't open the door.

“Leah, please… open up.” I remember him calling while I did not respond. “I should’ve stopped her,” he continued. I should’ve told you everything, before she had t

LUCIANThe sound of fists slamming against padded shields echoes through the training yard. Warriors grunt and groan, their bodies moving in rhythm. It should be a normal session, drills, and sparring. But nothing about me feels normal anymore.Fenrir is restless, more restless than he’s ever been. He claws at me from the inside, pushing against my control, demanding blood, demanding release.“Again,” I bark, tossing a sparring partner to the ground. My chest heaves, sweat dripping down my face. The warrior scrambles up, eyes wide, but I don’t give him time. I launch at him, and throwing a punch. The hit lands too hard, the crack of his bone sharp in the air. He cries out, clutching his arm, and I don’t stop.“Alpha…!” someone yells, but it’s distant, drowned out by Fenrir’s roar inside me.More, Fenrir snarls. Faster. Break them. Tear them all apart. My claws rip through my fingers before I can stop them. One swing sends the warrior flying into the dirt, coughing blood. Shouts erupt

LEAHEvelyn’s dagger slides free from my thigh with a sickening sound. Blood spills fast, mixing with the old stains on the stone, fuck! She wipes the blade clean on my torn clothes like I’m nothing more than a rag.She tilts her head slightly, watching me shake as the pain cuts to my core. A sick cackle breaks from her mouth, making my ears hurt. “Still not shifting? Impressive. Stupid, but impressive.”I bite down hard, tasting iron in my mouth. My body screams, but I don’t move. If I do, she wins. She pouts suddenly, lips pushing out like a spoiled child. “You’re no fun, Leah. All this silence. Don’t you want to scream? Uhmm? Try crying, or even begging?” She lowers her voice to a mocking whisper. “That’s what your precious packmates did before they died. And guess what? It didn’t help them either.”Anger surges hot through me. She’s lying, she has to be. The pack is fine, Lucian’s got them. Lucian’s got everything under control. He has to…Evelyn straightens, strolling toward a w

LUCIAN“Queen Reyna is dead?”The news hits like a punch to the chest as the messenger from Thornveil delivers. Queen Reyna is dead. Sasha too. And Leah… my Leah, has been captured. The words spread through my mind like wildfire. By the time the messenger finishes, the entire room feels like it’s turning. My head pounds, Fenrir howling inside me so loud I can barely breathe.“No,” I mutter, shaking my head. “That can’t be right. She can’t be gone. Queen Reyna can’t be gone like that. And Sasha, she’s a good one. She’s a loyal warrior and an even better friend to Leah. Fuck! And Leah. My chest tightens just thinking about her. It’s a relief that she’s alive, but she’s not safe, and every part of me is screaming to go after her. I slam my fists onto the table, rattling the maps and scrolls. “We’re not sitting here and waiting. I want every warrior, every scout, every damn resource we have sent out to find her. Now!”The war room goes quiet. Nobody moves. Finally, Theron clears his thro

LEAHEvelyn yanks on the chain of my cuffs, dragging me across the stone floor. My knees scrape against the rough ground, leaving raw burns. She doesn’t care. She only laughs, the sound sharp and eery, echoing like the cries of a broken doll. When she finally lets go, I collapse in the center of the room, the stink of the stale, old blood on the walls curling in my nose. She circles me slowly, like she’s inspecting some kind of experiment, Damn it! I knew vampires were evil, with their red, devilish eyes. But I didn’t know it was this much. She hasn’t even broken a sweat, it’s like this is all she does all her life.“Shift,” she says casually, twirling the dagger in her hand like it’s nothing more than a toy. “Go on, little silver wolf. Show me your magic. Show me what makes you so special.”I keep my head down, my chest heaving. I can barely move, but I manage a whisper. “No.”Her laugh is loud this time, mocking. She stops in front of me and gives an exaggerated bow, her long hair f

LEAHThe silence inside the cage is louder than any scream.I sit cross-legged on the cold floor, the silver bars pressing into my back every time I shift. My wrists are raw, and almost numb from where the cuffs rubbed, my head heavy from everything I’ve lost, mother, Sasha, and at this point, even Lucian. It feels like pieces of me are being carved out one by one.My neighbors have been quiet for a while now, only the Goddess knows what happened to them. Fear creeps in quietly, as my body shivers. But I can’t let myself fold, not here, and definitely not now.Two guards shuffle outside the corridor, their voices low but sharp enough to carry through the bars. I freeze, tilting my head slightly.“…Nyra won’t wait long,” one says, his voice gravelly. “She needs the energy. You know how she gets if she doesn’t feed.”The other snorts. “Yeah, and guess who’s next on the list? The silver one. Everybody’s shiny little prize.”My stomach twists, but I keep my face blank, eyes down on the fl

LUCIANI sit at the edge of the bed, my hands clenched, forcing myself to breathe in and out, and it doesn’t work. My chest still feels tight, like someone has their hand wrapped around my heart and is squeezing harder every second. I miss Leah.I can feel the bond like a static hum in the back of my head. It’s there, but faint. Too faint. She’s alive, I know she’s alive. But no matter how hard I reach, how much I call for her in my head, there’s no answer. Just silence.I press the heel of my hand against my temple. “Damn it, Leah. Where are you?”The door creaks, and Theron steps in. He doesn’t say anything at first, he just stands there with his arms crossed, studying me. His silence grates on me more than words would.“What?” I snap.“You haven’t eaten,” he says flatly. “And you look like hell.”“I don’t care.”He sighs, running a hand over his face. “Lucian, this isn’t…”“I said I don’t care!” My voice bounces off the walls, sharp and raw. “The only thing I care about is finding
