Darius

The entire events seemed to replay in my head, the fear coursing through my veins again. I was running through the muddy forest once more with the figure behind me. This time, I could feel his breath on the back of my neck, so close he could take a bite out of my skin.

Then I made the same mistake of turning back, I tripped over the root again and fell headlong into the ditch. My eyes snapped open, a gasped bursting through my lips.

For a long time, I couldn't remember where I was or how I had gotten there. My head throbbed with a rhythmic, pulsing headache that almost split my skull in half.

I remembered the rain, the freezing cold, and the terrifying sensation of the earth giving way beneath me. I remembered falling into a pit, the rush of water, and then a sickening crack as my skull slammed into something hard. After that, there had been nothing but blackness.

My breathing started to reduce into its normal pace when I looked around. It didn't feel like I was in a pit anymor

KaelThe hospital smelled of antiseptic and lingering death, a scent that usually didn't bother me because the amount of injuries wolves could incur in a day, but today it felt like it was choking me.I leaned against the wall, trying not to pace the hallway when my min was already in the room with the doctor and Darius. I wanted to move across, barge into the room and demand for answers.Adrian was a mess of grief and rage in my head, pacing just as I was, his claws metaphorically digging into my consciousness. Why the fuck were they taking so long to deliver the answers? A reason popped into my head and I swallowed it down, no, he can’t leave now. There will be signs right? I won’t feel this comfortable, there will be some sort of severance from me, right? I sighed and sat down, maintaining the blank look on my face.“How much longer do we have to wait here? We have other important things to do,” I said, trying to keep up with the fact that I was uninterested in being here. When the

KaelSleep had become an illusion, a foreign concept that my body didn’t understand. I stared out of the large window in my office that over looked the pack. All I could see from the pitch black windows was my reflection. The image of someone who was spiraling into a territory he never thought was possible.I never ever assumed that a man would make me lose sleep, talk more of someone who murdered my family. I sighed and shook my head, trying to focus my attention on something else. I wanted to let everything take its course, there was nothing going to happen to Darius. They would find him and bring him back safely.“And if they don’t?” Adrian asked for the first time in hours. He only popped up to make the guilt more intense and severe.“We should only hope for the best now,” I said. But what was going to happen after they found him? The realization that I had become too attached to him was frightening. It would affect the dynamic of our relationship.Relationship? I couldn’t even ca

DariusA bucket of freezing water slammed into my face with such force that it felt like a physical blow, stealing the air from my lungs and leaving me choking. I sputtered, my head snapping back against the wooden frame of the chair as the water soaked through my clothes and the gag in my mouth. My eyes snapped open, flickering around the room once more. My eyes stung as the water burned them. Through the blur of wet hair that pressed against my face and stinging eyes, I saw him once again. The hooded figure was standing there, the empty bucket swinging slightly in one gloved hand. The room was still dim, lit only by that same sickly, pale light from the hallway. He didn't say a word. He just set the bucket down and the metal sound echoed in the room before he reached into a small bag he had brought with him.He pulled out a plastic container and a spoon. He stepped toward me and untied the gag, but I didn't scream this time. My throat was too raw, and my heart was too heavy with a s

KaelThe sun had since dipped into the horizon, letting darkness enveloped the earth. Even with the fact that nighttime had come and it was time to sleep, my mind continued to race with questions and thoughts. There was no way I was going to be able to rest when I had not gotten word from Drew yet. It had been more than ten hours since he left and not one whisper had come back from him. Did something really happen to Darius?Or did he run? A thought crossed my mind. I had never wanted to entertain the thought that he had decided that it was better for him to be anywhere else but here. Darius wouldn’t run, he had nowhere else to go. He would become a rogue if he left the pack and he couldn’t go back to his pack because they would kill him.As each minute flickered by, the guilt that raged in my heart increased tremendously. I had been pacing the length of my room for hours, my boots scuffing against the heavy rug. My mind was a chaotic storm of "what-ifs" and half-formed prayers to the

KaelI stared at the mountain of luggage blocking the entrance to the pack house, each box seemed to be filled to the brim, the material bulging with clothes and others stacked recklessly. I angled my head behind to see the car as it spilled into the higway, whoever had dropped her before falling to her face again. She had a bright smile on her face with perspiration littering her forehead. There was something about her, she always seemed to suck out the joy from anywhere I was in. It wasn’t like I had any joy, which made my mood all the more worse upon seeing her with her broad smile. Her presence felt like a physical weight pressing down on my chest, adding to the suffocating panic already clawing at my throat. I didn't have time for this. Every second she stood here wasting my breath was a second that Darius was somewhere out there, even worse, his body could be devoured by rogues. Are you going to just stand there?” she asked in a cheery tone. Her voice was annoying and it was ano

KaelI jolted awake, sweat trickled from my forehead and down my back, even my bed was cold with the sweat that poured out of me. My heart was a parade drum in my chest, beating a rhythm of pure terror. I looked around, waiting for the room to morph into the branches that stuck out in my dream or for the ceiling to give way at rain would crash through. The nightmare felt less like a dream and more like a premonition, like a foreshadow to something that would happen…or has happened. The second thought made my heard sink into my pit. The fear slowly began a day dance with guilt. The image of Darius, pale and lifeless in that rising water, was burned into the back of my brain I flung my legs off the sheet, the air evading each time I tried to breathe it in."It was just a dream," I hissed to myself. I could feel my wolf was shaken too but remained quiet, he was still upset with me and he had every right to. This was all my fault.I threw on a shirt and stormed out of my quarters, my fee
